A great little downtown store and pharmacy. Justin and staff are hard working, caring, and friendly. If you were to combine small town Americana and a sense of community, you would get Winslow drug. :)

I really love this store — although calling it a «drug store» really doesn’t do the place justice. My family and I usually begin our Bainbridge shopping route here at this store(we usually immediately get a hairbrush here to untangle our knotted hair from the ferry ride over!). Another reviewer mentioned that this place has a «Mulberry» feel, and that description is quite apt. This place feels like what a drug store would be in the early ‘50s. There are gift items, lots of greeting cards, party supplies and gifts, Bainbridge and WA souvenirs, various sundries and cosmetics, toys and games, a working pharmacy in the rear… Truly a bit of everything. And the prices are decent for«Island prices». I’ve purchased some good quality t-shirts here, and gifts for the gardens of my friends. I should note that they have some lovely glass birdbaths here I’ve been eyeing for a few years! There is a lot of light in the store, and the lady who is usually behind the counter has been there for years and is a nice as nice can be.

Scouting downtown Bainbridge for a few gifts to take back home, the wife and I popped into Vern’s after being mesmerised by the window display. For saying it’s a drug store(and that means something entirely different for me back home in the UK) the array of gifts, knick knacks and stationery was vast. We wandered the aisles for at least 45 minutes, grabbing a slew of trinkets with that Bainbridge twist: namely a ferry fridge magnet I knew my mum would love(she does, it’s now proudly in the best spot on her fridge.) When we were looking for a day-to-day pocket calendar, I wasn’t sure we’d find one as it was March and those kinds of items often go out of stock after January. After asking the staff(I think it was Vern?) he promptly gave us a Winslow Drug diary — for free. He couldn’t have been more helpful and generous. At the checkout we spotted a poster of the Olympic Peaks, an old sketch one of our friends has that we’ve both admired. Lucky for us, Vern still had one in stock and talked to us for a while about it. The experience here was unlike your typical drug store. There’s a down-to-earth, family atmosphere, that’s got a life-long fan in me. Hurrah!

Deliberately chose Vern’s Winslow Drug store over big corporate places in order to support a small business. The people here are very sweet, kind, and accommodating, and were happy to go the extra mile when dealing with doctors’ offices that weren’t filling paperwork in time, etc. And poking around on the shelves looking at stuff that would’ve had me begging for things as a kid, as well as a nice little gift section, gives me great pleasure.

I love the Mayberry feel to the whole of Bainbridge Island. And, Vern’s is an old time 5 and dime. I got to the island and promptly got an eye issue and needed a prescription. I chose Vern’s, because I love local, and I was happy for it. Very friendly people, they had my eye drops, and I got to walk through some serious nostalgia. The only thing that would make this perfect is a soda fountain… wait, why don’t they have a soda fountain? And, if they compounded meds. But, I am happy with Vern’s.
