24th Street Cafe

My favorite breakfast in town. They have so much to choose from and the service is always great. The wait is long but worth it. I love the crepes and the hot links and eggs. Their scrambles are great and specialties are always changing.

Perfect pit stop for breakfast en route to Vegas from Yosemite.

Nice Lil café. I had the all American omelet small but good. My hubby however had the bacon burger and it was big but dry. Could have been better.

Absolutely love this place. I hear hear for breakfast after I get done working night shift sometimes. The Cajun seafood omelette is killer! The service is always on point and the café atmosphere is perfect for a breakfast spot. I have tried any of their other food, but it definitely looks good.

It’s a perfect place for breakfast and brunch! Food is amazing. Whole place gives a feeling of a classic diner where you can feel relaxed and have a sumptuous breakfast/​brunch. Staff are friendly. You can look out for a bit of a wait time on weekends, but you can always sit outside and sip on coffee while u wait. I particularly love their pancakes and eggs. My husband enjoys his Cajun Salmon with biscuit and gravy. I have been a regular here over the weekends.

We offered to pay (he did not ask) for a homeless man’s breakfast at this café today on Father’s day and upon telling the manager as such, manager stated that the owner does not like that because the homeless man is here every weekend and the owner does not want this homeless man coming around, but manager said he would let us pay for the man’s meal this time and would bring us the ticket…

And this manager has the audacity to basically tell myself and my husband that he will ALLOW us to show an act of kindness towards another and let us pay for this man’s meal to go since he was not allowed to sit inside…
Never, ever at anytime, anywhere have we ever encountered this kind of despicable behavior from any establishment…
I have never been more ashamed of any establishment as I am this one right now…
Are we going to 24^th Street Café again???

This is an update to my previous review of this establishment…
I received a scathing comment on my previous review from a former employee which I will be approving because I do believe in the free exchange of ideas and opinions…
I also believe in being articulate when I am either speaking or writing in which I clearly did here, but since there seems to be some confusion from the commenter on my review, I will break my review down by issuing a rebuttal…
At no time during my review did I accuse the owner of this establishment of anything, unless of course, the owner’s name is Larry, but I’m not thinking it is, so I guess that negates needing to defend the owner…
At no time during my visit to this establishment was it stated to me that the homeless man in question was violent or had been previously, only that he was there every weekend, which is exactly what I stated in my review…
I state the facts as they occur, I do not embellish them, so I guess that negates the need for anyone to decorate my review with statements that were not stated to me originally…
As for my statement of the horrific events in Orlando last week, that was merely to point out that we as a society need to practice a lot more kindness towards other’s and a lot less hate…
In summation, if my husband and I’s offer to pay for a homeless man’s meal results in being told by the manager that he will let us do it this time (as if we somehow need permission to be kind to another) and then subsequently a scathing comment of my review by a former employee who failed to really read my review, then our choice to not go to this establishment again was indeed the right choice…
As a note…
There will never be a valid need for anyone to excuse their own not so good behavior with me by attempting to somehow defend their choice not to show an act of kindness to another, no matter the circumstances…

Great food. Friendly staff. Had breakfast fruit and sausage, egg, biscuit. I couldn’t finish it all.

Had the best Salmon Dip Sandwich! They were down a server but still was able to be on top of it! Will definitely come back !

Seen that it was in DDD. Was in town for an appointment, decided to try it out. Had breakfast and… No regrets. The house salsa was great with the omelette. My son enjoyed the strawberry waffles

24^th Street Café is a Bakersfield staple. Aside from the typical (but delicious!) diner fare, they have an amazing monthly menu, mimosas and bloody marys… what more do you need from a great brunch spot?!
Parking can get a little hectic during peak hours but there’s usually a street parking spot or two. And while we’re talking about peak hours, if you’re coming here on a Sunday, expect to have a bit of a wait. There is an inside waiting area and an outdoors waiting area with free coffee and water. Great perk!
Nothing I’ve ordered has ever disappointed BUT my go to choice is the strawberry crepes. They are the perfect amount of sweetness. However, be aware this dish only comes with crepes and nothing else. My husband’s typical order is the cajun seafood omlette which is also pretty tasty. I’m not sure what all the choices are but he orders it with hashbrowns and a biscuit with gravy (included in the meal).
My only complaints are regarding the coffee. First, the price is kind of outrageous. over $ 3! Second, all coffee cups are set out on the table at all times. They are not changed out when the table’s previous occupants leave. If they didnt use them, they stay there until someone does. I never had an issue with this until my most recent visit where I saw a customer handle one of the cups by picking it up from the rim and then switching that cup with one from the unoccupied table behind him. I wouldn’t want to drink from a cup that someone with no food handling knowledge has touched.
Still, 24^th Street is where I will continue to go when I want a nice, relaxing brunch experience.

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday around 9 am and the wait was lengthy for 5 people. Granted space inside is quite limited. They offer complimentary coffee outside tho while waiting in line for your seat which was nice. Had the cinnamon rolls which was huge!!! 1 order easily fed all 5 of us. It was on the sweeter side but was good paired with the coffee. Also ordered a fruit crêpe which was good as well. Personally I had the #12 combo: 2 poached eggs atop an English muffin topped with Swiss cheese, Spanish sauce and sour cream. It was all really good hearty food. The endless coffee was nice too. The waitress was extremely attentive to the needs of our party. Great breakfast joint in bakersfield

This place is good however I don’t understand all the hype. Large portions which is great and good enough but nothing to write home about. However, I am not a huge breakfast person so maybe that’s why. If you like cinnamon rolls, they are humungous and I recommend it! I have been here three times and the first time I got the fish, which I was excited about. It was really fishy :(. The other two times I got the seafood enchilada which was yummy. There is usually a line so try to go during the weekdays and non busy hours.

Today we had lunch. We arrived just before noon and were able to be seated immediately. We even found parking in the adjacent lot very near the door; which was a very welcomed surprise. My lunch companions and I ordered various items. One companion ordered a salmon salad, another a chicken breast salad, and I ordered a salmon dip. We also ordered a side of fried green tomatoes.
Each of us enjoyed our dishes and the fried green tomatoes. My sandwich was served on a six-​inch french roll. It had a blackened coho salmon filet inside. The au jus was a «lobster au jus» and worked very well for the sandwich. This was accompanied by french fries (coincidentally, the fries were good, but there was nothing special about them.)
Dessert looked good, but we decided to pass on it. This month there were featuring a blueberry cobbler (or something like that.) Again, it looked amazing, but we were all full from our meals. Two of us took home at least half of what was served to us.
I plan to return in the near future with my wife and kids so that they can enjoy this place, too.

We’ve been wanting to try this place since we moved to Bakersfield a few months ago. Finally stopped in today and it was great! The service was outstanding and the food was delicious! I just wish I could order everything off the menu! Definitely looking forward to coming back.

So here I am on a Sunday, with my BFF, for my birthday brunch. It is a very popular breakfast spot on Sundays. We waited 10 minutes for a table. I ordered a seafood omelette and my friend ordered the smirked tri tip omelette.

I wish Unilocal had ½ stars for places like this. The food, prices and service all good — there are definitely menu items that would add a star but I’m thinking I just didn’t order the right thing. I broke the rule of ordering a «spanish» dish from a restaurant that was not Spanish but they home-​make the red sauce so i went for it — then questioned the tortillas, my bad!
SPANISH OMELETTE — their tomato-​based sauce cooked down with peppers, celery & onion. It was smooth, not spicy — very good on the eggs but with a smear of sour cream and processed shredded cheese that wasn’t melted (boo). Had the o’brien potatoes with it. Meh.
So the Honey got the CORNED BEEF HASH, also homemade (not the canned version which by the way is also a menu option, but Why?) HIS CBH was full of flavor, crisp cooked and served with eggs and crispy hash browns. Also came with a ginormous side of homemade biscuits and gravy that saved the day. Gravy was tasty balance of seasonings and had bits of bacon, yes bacon gravy not sausage — YUM.
This was another Food Network DDD spot, which is why we stopped here on our visit to Bakersfield. There is a long wait on weekends but they do put out coffee for you. Keep your party size 4 or less — limited on the seating.

Firsr of all, this place is one of the few restaurants here in Bakersfield that is consistent in food and service. We love the breakfast here and the pumpkin pancakes are the best. The Migas are great as well and the food is always fresh Nice, efficient employees that always make us feel welcome.
A MUST TRY FOR BREAKFAST OR LUNCH.

I am not a big breakfast person, but the 24^th Café is one of the rare places where I enjoy eating breakfast. It is often busy on the weekend and only stays open till 2pm daily.
It’s like an old-​fashioned diner inside with a counter with bar stools and booths and another room with tables. The waitresses are on it, busily attending to their customers with a pleasant attitude.
The coffee is good here. You can get mimosas or juice (not fresh-​squeezed).
The menu is quite innovative especially for Bakersfield. They have a page of specials featuring unique food combinations and flavors. I was surprised that they have a number of fish/​seafood options.
My boyfriend had an omelet with a seafood that he absolutely loved. We both love the pumpkin pancakes with butter pecan butter; I think you may only be able to get them on the weekend. They are quite tasty. Almost like a dessert.
I usually get an omelet. I was trying to think what makes me like the food here so much, and I realized that the ingredients seem very fresh and the food is not greasy. They are pretty good about allowing substitutions and allowing me to customize my order which is nice. I like the side of potatoes and the toast is good. They have a delicious salsa which I like to put on my egg and potatoes.

You guys. If you are in downtown Bakersfield and only have time to do one thing, GO HERE! And order the butter-​slathered cinnamon roll straight from God’s very own kitchen. It’s a heavenly delight that will have you groaning «Wow» with every. single. bite. My husband and I were there last Monday and our awesome server Billy hooked us up with this cinnamony delight and we are forever grateful that he did. You rock, Billy! And your tats are awesome too!
But anyway, this place is a little pearl in the increasingly cool downtown Bako scene. All their food is great, but please, please, for the love of all things holy, PLEASE do yourself a favor and try that dang cinnamon roll. And thank me later

Breakfast is one of those meals that if done right, it can make you feel ready to take on the world. 24^th Street Café definitely knows how to make breakfast and it instilled that feeling in me this past Sunday.
My family and I arrived just before 10am and as usual it was packed to the brim, the small waiting area was filled and the seats outside came close. It wasn’t too long of a wait but each person or group that was leaving would say to everyone waiting outside, «Don’t worry, it is worth the wait, believe us!». I had no doubt in my mind it was worth because we have visited before but probably 2 – 3 years prior. While you are waiting outside they have coffee to help yourself and there are two heaters, they don’t heat the whole area but still some places won’t provide the heat nor the coffee.
About 45 minutes later we were called to be seated and at our table was ice water, four coffee cups and silverware wrapped in our napkins. Of course my wife was the only one to order coffee so our waitress pulled the remaining three away to clear space. My kids and I ordered soda, cause we live on the edge like that.
After about 5 minutes of us four battling our stomach on what to pick, we placed order:
**Chicken Fried Steak with two sunny side eggs, pan fried potatoes and biscuits and gravy. (Myself) 4 Stars
**Burger Steak with two sunny side eggs, hashbrowns and white toast. (Older Son) 4 Stars
**Sausage link combination with scrambled eggs, pan fried potatoes and biscuits and gravy.(Younger son) 3.5 Stars
**Two easy poached eggs on top of english muffins, with hashbrowns and a side of sausage links (wife) 4 Stars
**Stack of Pumpkin Pancakes with Pecan Butter (share) 5 Stars
My older son devoured his food, he loved each part and more while my younger son enjoyed his but mostly fell in love with the biscuits and gravy. And he loved it so much, he took away some of mine.
My wife thought the salsa and poached eggs paired well and she enjoyed it very much. I like mine alot, the only thing for me was the breadding on the Chicken Fried Steak was not as crispy on some parts as I would have loved but the flavor had great depth.
My wife heard from friends that 24^th Street Café’s Pumpkin Pancakes were amazing and some of them come here just for it so we had to try it. We split the stack of two and if you love pumpkin pie you will fall head over heels for these! I was amazed by how good the Pecan Butter was, you do not need syrup at all. We are coming back just for this alone.
The service as we have always encountered is near flawless even with a jammed packed café. Our waitress was on point, very warm and curteous which just makes experiences like this worth the time and money spent.
