Bakersfield Marriott at the Convention Center

The beds are better at a motel 6. I’m on the executive floor in a single King and the bed is crushed down on both sides.
You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.
Who cares how nice the lounge is if your back is killing you in the morning?
Terrible.

Marriott Convention Center Bakersfield staff went out of their way after I inadvertently left something in my room. Andres V located the item, and called me back a few times to let me know he had the item and to get credit card info so they could send it to me. I was in transit so he had to leave voice mails and then when we did talk live on the phone it was really noisy where I was, so it was not easy for him to contact me. The next day Brooke S texted me to let me know that FedEx would pick up the item at the end of the day. I so appreciate the extra effort from Andres and Brooke, and that they were so pleasant about it! Marriott — do not lose these employees! They are what can make hotel service outstanding! (btw, this is only the 2^nd Unilocal I’ve ever written, but I just had to let everyone know how great Andres and Brooke are).
The rest of my stay was fine. Clean, quiet, comfortable. I did not shower or eat there so no comments on those aspects. This was my second visit and I will definitely stay here again if I’m in the area.

Very good hotel, nice clean rooms. Parking is free. Great customer service. I stayed many times, no issues. Highly recommend it.

We stayed here on Christmas day as we were visiting family for the Christmas holiday. The service at check in was great. I was greated with a polite smile which made me feel welcomed.
The room was very clean. The beds looked really special with about 6 pillows each giving us a choice to picked the one we liked. This was the most comfortable Marriott bed I have ever slept in. The mattress was firm and not worn in any one spot. I think the most enjoyable part was the comforter.
This will be my hotel of choice next time I sleep over here.

Would stay here again. Breakfast buffet was nice.

Kristen, the manager, was extremely helpful in getting my room set up and allowing my wife to check in for me, even though she had lost her wallet, ID, and credit cards! She definitely went above and beyond. In terms of service I would rate this Marriott a 5. The only downgrade was due to the rather worn look of the hallways and badly scuffed room doors. The room itself was quite nice and comfortable though.

I enjoy my stays here very much! Watched a Monday night football game and they were raffling off cool prizes the entire time! Real good food from the nines restaurant located inside the hotel. Nice and comfortable and safe rooms. You need a room key to get up the elevator which is important. I recently held a dinner meeting there and the banquet crew was on their game! Everything was perfect! And it’s connected to the new hockey teams arena so I’ll be back in the near future to watch a game! Can’t wait to be back!

I’m not understanding the low reviews on this place! Great staff, clean rooms, and a nice concierge lounge! Concierge staff is amazing; friendly and on top of everything!
Two negatives to my stay (which will not alter my decision to come back; which I will be back!)
1. The pool when I was here was BUTT COLD!!! But the spa was perfect!
2. The shower head (large rain type) sprayed the water around your body instead of towards your body. You have to get your head close to the shower head to get the shampoo out of your hair.
Ignore the negativity and book your stay here!

So when business took me to Bakersfield, I stayed at the Marriott at the Convention Center for the first time. It gets pretty busy in the lobby bar and at the Nines Restaurant due to meetings and business functions happening at the convention center. Despite the large crowd of business folks, I dined in the lobby bar area and was pleasantly surprised with how well my cocktails were made along with the top notch friendly and attentive service from their bartenders and waiters. I would say the quality of food was average (chicken caesar salad) but still, a nice and relaxing evening that was quite enjoyable. Rooms were fine but could probably use some updating. It was also nice to not have to pay a resort fee or $ 30+ for parking, which was abundant and free! Overall, a good reliable option when needing to be in Bakersfield.

I will start out by saying that this hotel looks nice, good atmosphere and all so I decided to try it since I usually stay at the courtyard Marriott off the 99 fwy.
Rooms are nice — no complaints here but I stayed on the 5^th floor room #500 and I don’t know what the people next door were doing till 3am but every 15 minutes they kept opening closing their door. I don’t care about that!
What was annoying/​frustrating was that door slamming, it is so loud it kept waking me up and makes the wall where the headboard is shake.
No good sleep
Also the noise from the street is very distracting if your trying to sleep as well. It seems that the Windows don’t keep the noise out very well.
I will go back to the courtyard Marriott next time as I need a good nights sleep since I come out here from Los Angeles for business meetings only.

Our room had a pet stain on the floor. We also had water damage on the floor. The view was air condition equipment that runs all night. I am a Marriott member but I used a AAA card which gave us a discount. I was told by the front desk that our room was given to us because we used a AAA card. Look at my photos#40 and 41

Came here for a work conference (’cause, why else are you in Bakersfield?), and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel! My room was very clean with attractive, modern updates. The location is also pretty central, with several restaurants and bars across the street in quick walking distance from the hotel.
The main lobby was also great for travelers — it contains a bar area with affordable bites and meals (bar food, burgers, etc), and a nicer sit-​down restaurant if you’re willing to splurge. There is plenty of lounge seating and squishy overstuffed armchairs sectioned off into sitting areas, and a large fireplace that would probably be very nice in not July.
I myself decided to take in a little pool time. It was midday on a Wednesday and I was the only one out there, which was nice. Another attractive area of lounge seating that seemed perfect for evening drinks and conversation poolside. The water was absolutely perfect — as you’ll see from my photo, it even makes Bakersfield look nice!

We stayed here for 1 night back in 2011. It was OK accommodations — does the job as a Marriott branded hotel. :) You can earn points while staying here if you are part of the rewards program.
Good location to downtown Bake.

Initial review: (update at bottom) Worst hotel experience ever! I travel a lot and stay in many hotels. I booked this hotel and was told I would have two Queen Beds. Told them we are arriving late. My husband is 6’4 and both sons are tall also. We need two Queen beds at minimum. When we arrived the clerk said I only have a Suite available so I upgraded you. Cool I’m a Marriotts reward member, this is cool. Mind you its midnight and we are exhausted. So we try to go to our room and can’t get past the elevator. Key doesn’t work. So the kid says oh yeah… between 12 – 1 there is a glitch in the system I can’t make new keys. Okay weird I’ve never heard of that before. He takes us to our room, we enter he leaves. We see 1 bed… there are 4 of us… no pull out couch. Nothing. Looking… looking. Maybe the bed is hiding? No. It wasn’t a joke. He is gone. Made no mention to us this room sleeps 2. We have to walk back down to the counter. Need two Queens. It’s guaranteed I said. I show him the email that says Guaranteed two Queens. Hm he says. We are sold out. I said please tell me how we are supposed to fit my large family all in one bed? No response. He says I can try to fit 2 roll aways in there but «I can’t guarantee it.» Can I get 2 rooms? We are sold out. I will pay you $ 1,000 right now for a room. We are sold out. But the good news is you get the whole suite for the price of Two Queens. (Did he really just say that – yes he did. Good news? Im trying to figure out how to fit 27 feet of height in one bed and he’s trying to tell me this is a benefit? Seriously) We crash on the lobby couches exhausted waiting for a solution. He says some guy will meet us to let us up the elevator. He doesn’t come. I’m despondent. I slump onto the marble floors and want to cry.
45 minutes later, he escorts us to our room, has made no effort on getting the roll aways in there. I’m not sure what going on. Finally gets one. The second arrives unmade. Neither have pillows.
He attempts to abscond again. Me: excuse me… we need sheets, pillows and blankets. (My kid offers to sleep on a bare mattress he’s so exhausted-​gross). I look for towels and notice there’s only 1 towel in the room, 1 bathrobe (2pairs of slippers?) okay kid add towels too. 15 minutes later he arrives with linens. I can’t see straight. I’m afraid I’m turning into the Incredible Hulk. He comes back with 1 blanket and hands the sheets to my 10 year old. Does not offer to make up the bed. No pillow cases at first and he sees no problem with letting my child sleep on an unmade pillow. Found pillow case. Hotel us out of blankets. He brought extra sheets instead of a blanket. Ok son. Wear your jacket to bed. All seems ok. I request new card keys be slid under the door.
02:21 am, I’ve been asleep for 45 minutes. Started awake by bizarre gurgling heard from faucet and or toilet. I’m delirious and somehow wonder if sewer is going to come out of the toilet.
It’s now 7 am and no card keys arrived. Only the bill.
Very worst Marriott. If I could give you a –5 I would. I booked for purely a convenience stay so I didn’t have to drive down and back in one day. I regret that decision. Regret!
UPDATE: changed review to 4 stars because while initial service was poor, I strongly consider how the management and staff handles the incident to try to correct the problem. They gave me 50% off room, and also late check out this morning. Gave us keys that worked. Later the manager personally tracked down my husband and I on two occasions to apologize and also offered free lunch. He did everything he could to make it better. Thank you.

This is one of the best hotels in town. Before I moved to town recently, I visited Bakersfield a lot for family and we would stay here. It is surprisingly one of the cheaper Marriott’s if you book online and use Marriott rewards. They have a nice café and bar area. The bedrooms are laid out in an easy format and always nice and clean. The mattresses are so comfy too. The staff is friendly. Parking can be tight if they have events going on. It is perfect if you need to be close to rabobank arena or government buildings. There is also a movie theater a short walk away and the train station is also a short walk. Great location and great hotel.

Your typical Marriott location with average/​above average rooms and friendly service. We left a phone in the room, and they were able to find it and bring it down to the front desk. Overall we were very happy with our stay! There is ample parking, a 24 hour gym, and a pool as well which is nice.

Made reservations thru Travelocity for my family of 4. I reserved a room that was suppose to have two queen size beds. Check in time is 2 or 3 we didn’t get to this town till around 10pm. The girl tells me they’re out rooms with two beds. So they put us in a room with 1 bed and a sofa bed.
I don’t understand why that happened if I had made reservations. The room was clean but the bathtub was plugged up and that REALLY grossed me out. I showered and water is up to my ankles and it wouldn’t drain. The hallways are hot and humid. The elevator sounds like it needs some serious servicing and it’s very hot in there. I’ll do better research next time and stay somewhere else.

Usually when I stay at a Marriott property I walk away with only good things to say. So I’m going to say the good things first. The location is perfect and your in the heart of downtown Bakersfield. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything I expected in my room was there down to the extra feathered pillows.
The bad thing… I was not expecting a bathroom to make me feel dirty after I took my shower. The bath tub in this place was gross. The tub itself was peeling and tiles looked like they had fallen off and glued back on several times. I thought I came to a Marriott and not a Motel 6 off the highway. It was already late in the evening by the time I realized what the bath area looked like and I was too tired to vent my disapproval. Getting in the shower after a long day is all about feeling clean, not feeling scared.
Marriott, Please fix this bathroom in room 509 at this location. I don’t want another customer to feel like they have to cover the tub before taking a shower. If you have other bathrooms that look Ike this, please fix those too.

The Marriott Bakersfield is a centrally located hotel that is literally connected to the convention center. I believe this has both merits and demerits warranted. The night that I stayed, there was a monster truck rally, a graduation, an animé convention, and a basketball tournament. Needless to say, we will call this soup du jour a jambalaya– there was a little bit of everything thrown in.
I found the room to be quite nice and spacious, the bed comfortable, and free internet (Maybe thanks to the FCC fines?!) My concern was the fact that it was so obscenely loud that even with ear plugs I could barely sleep. There were people everywhere, banging on doors, slamming doors, speaking very loudly– and I don’t think the hotel management was apt to do anything about it.
Would I recommend the rooms and the facilities; yes. Would I recommend checking to see what was in town that weekend before staying here on a non weeknight: yes again.

Clean, comfortable room in a pretty central location. Parking can be an issue if there is something going on at the Convention Center. For security reasons you have to insert you room key into the elevator before selecting a floor. I understand the rationale behind it but it’s still annoying.
I’m not sure where my room was in relation to the Amtrak in previous posts, but I slept fine with no noticeable noise. However, I was on the top floor. The breakfast buffet was great. The fruit was fresh, there was some yummy blueberry bread, and I had a delicious made to order omelet.
