Bob’s Muffler & Radiator

Been here once, but it was a great experience. Smooth running business in a seedy part of town, but nothing too bad. Received a fair quote, waited in line, and had the work done all in about an hour on a busy Saturday. They know what they are doing, and there is no fuses about it. And my truck sounded great once they were done!

I caught these guys at the right time even tho it was near the end of the day. Drove right in, was nicely greeted and within 10 minutes, my old Volvo was up on the rack for a look-​see. My muffler was barely hanging on. They showed me the problem, gave me a great price and it’s almost done as I type. Good folks. I recommend this shop.

Stopped by to see what it would cost to fix my rattling muffler. All it needed was a little help from this place and $ 10! Very helpful, fast and efficient.

These guys are great. Despite the older shop in a generally seedy part of town it is obvious they take pride in their work. I had a single chamber muffler installed with a resonator delete on my ’05 Hemi Ram and I couldn’t be more satisfied. I believe I paid just over a hundred dollars and was in and out in an hour. I won’t go anywhere else for exhaust service!

I found Bob’s Muffler on Unilocal last year while I was still live in Valencia, not too far from Bakersfield, but I don’t have time to do my custom muffler until today (and I already move to Orange County). Last week, I start contacting several muffler shop by email, no one response except James, the owner of Bob’s muffler. He gave me his personal cell phone, I call and text him, he give me a rough quote over the phone and I decide to drive 170 miles one way to Bakersfield to install my custom muffler at Bob’s Muffler.
James is very friendly, he quote me on the lower range of the price he gave me over the phone, Kimberly the manager is also very friendly and nice, she choose Kevin one of the custom mandrel bent specialist to assist me.
Kevin the mechanic do most of the MANDREL Bending and spent 6 hours and skipping lunch to custom make everything and at the end Christian also do a good job helping Kevin with the final alignment of the Exhaust Tips. I am a very satisfied customer. What they did was install an OEM Honda Civic Si resonator and muffler with customer 2 ¼in Stainless Steel (OD) Piping for my Honda Fit, and it was a TIGHT FIT, but they are very patients and make it happen for me. Kevin welding and mandrel bending skill is as good as it can get! I am very happy, worth the drive. Thanks James, Kevin, Kimberly and Christian. If someday I need another custom exhaust I will drive to Bakersfield again.

I was very pleased with this down-​to-​earth shop.
So I had the displeasure of eventually needing 4 catalytic converters for my two cars to get smogged. I brought my first car, expecting a huge bill and time consuming hassle. Happily, the bill was much smaller than I expected, they showed my exactly what the problem was, and I only waited 20 minutes to it to be done! They tried to test as much as possible so they wouldn’t need to replace the other, more expensive, cat.
I appreciated their work, and brought my second car to them a few weeks later. Even though they couldn’t get a specific part that same day, they seemed sincerely sorry about it, and always displayed a friendly manner. They even diagnosed a separate problem, which wasn’t muffler related, that they told me about.
I would certainly recommend this place to others. And my mechanic friend mentioned this place to me.
Tip: the office counter is inside the shop. You may need to ask if no one is directly there.

This place rocks they can do anything, took a new header to have a 02 sensor installed for an application i was doing and they did it with ease, and it looks very professional and extremely affordable. Id recommend this place highly.

I needed three catalytic converters changed. The dealer wanted $ 3500. This shop did top work for $ 600. They would’ve installed O2 sensors if I would have thought to have brought them with me!
The front desk girl is really great too!
Will definitely be back for a new muffler.

I came here because the dealership told me my car needed a new catalytic converter and this company seems to be experts in that arena. I also wasn’t ready to make a repair that the dealership quoted as over $ 1000 without seeking a second opinion.
So, I contacted the company via email. They responded within 24 hours; I thought that was great. I asked them in the email to call me at some point to make arrangements for when I would show up. They did that, too. I spoke with James, the owner and he was quite amicable. We made arrangements for this past Saturday.
I arrived on Saturday and wasn’t sure where to go. I eventually called them again and had to clarify where the entrance was located. The entrance to their yard is off of Miller street between E. 21^st St and Sumner St.
After figuring out how to get in, I stood there not knowing their procedures. Eventually, one of their techs came up to me and asked if I had been helped. I told him not yet and he explained where I was supposed to go to arrange service. Apparently, you are supposed to go into the shop area to the left of their racks and in there is the office.
After speaking with their cashier/​office manager (whatever her title is) for a few moments, I was able to get the service arranged. From that point on, I was out of their within 15 minutes. They spoke with me and basically said that the car problems I described really don’t sound like a catalytic converter and that I’d be better off waiting until the problem arises again and then bringing it to them. I fully intend to do that and am now not so worried about the car.

Bought new headers for my 72 El Camino. Had the car taken to Bobs. They called in a specialist at custom systems and I couldn’t be more impressed with the job. It all fits like a glove, awesome welds and sounds great. Outstanding work.

I had ordered a custom exhaust for my Jaguar and stopped by Bobs to get an idea of the cost to install it. It was my first time there and I was kind of taken back by the facilities. The places is very old, all the work is done outside on lifts that are probably just as old as the building. There are take off parts stored all over the place. I was impressed with their knowledge and the information they gave me on the installation. When the kit arrived I stopped by another local shop that had done work for me before. I showed them the custom exhaust, but they were reluctant to attempt the job as they were not comfortable with the directions and working on a performance Jaguar. So back I went to Bobs, though still a bit concerned because the look of the place. Well they put the car up on the rack, looked at the exhaust and the directions and said no problem. They did the job in a little over an hour, were reasonable, and did a good job. Bobs is a great example of the old saying «you can’t always judge a book by it’s cover».

Great service! I called in the morning to get a quote and after calling other muffler shops the were the best price. Another shop quoted me $ 150 more for the same job!!! I arrived and my truck was put on the rack after about 15 minutes while they finished another job before mine. 30 minutes later I was done and the truck sounds awesome!

My husband came here to get an after-​market muffler for his Tacoma. He cannot stop talking about how impressed he is by their excellent customer service. They really do care about making sure you drive away happy! He is very satisfied with their pricing and workmanship, as well. Here’s a big «Thank You!» to the manager for her professionalism, too!

Bakersfield’s top shop for exhaust work, im a shop owner and I take my customers very seriously, James is by far one of the most professional people I have ever known, he has even taught me a thing or two, I’ve been doing work with this business for at least 20 years, extremely knowledgeable and well equipped, this business takes the time and spends the money to ensure they are on the cutting edge in their field, bobs does it right, I could go on for hours because I’ve done much work with them, but the simple truth is give them a shot, you will not be disappointed

This place is AWESOME!!! Called them up and spoke with a very nice lady and told her that I wanted some custom exhaust done, she gave me the owners number and email, and I sent him some pictures of what I wanted done and he made it happen!!! Within 24 hours my car was done!!! James (the owner) great guys!!! I am a returning customer because of him!!!

Great job, great price. I would recommend this shop to anyone. I arrived at opening and the employee was there on time, and ready to help me. He was very familiar with the addition (Cat-​back) exhaust system I wanted to install and got to work right away. 20 to 30 minutes later it was complete. My Challenger looked nice and thanks to Bobs Muffler, it sounds nice too.

We needed a exhaust manifold installed to our car to pass smog. We bought the part from Pep Boys for cheap. And we took it to Bob’s Muffler, who installed it for $ 100 in about an hour. They did exactly what we asked them to do, and they did it for a very reasonable price.
The only confusing time was that I called them at first, and they said they could do it, but when we went there in person, they said they couldn’t do it at first, but then they eventually said they could do it. It was confusing, but they eventually did it, so it was okay.

I was on a road trip on which my muffler fell off, so I swung by Bob’s for some help. The receptionist was knowledgeable and they had me up on the rack within 15 minutes or so. The muffler was welded back on and they tried to dismiss me with no charge, which I resisted enough to at least give the welder a tip.
I loved that this shop focuses on the high-​end but isn’t above helping a dirty hippie get his bus back together for the long drive back to Oregon. Thank you!

Best muffler shop in town. Had a new catalytic converter installed while I waited. Cost less than I could find the parts online.
