Description

Specialties

You do not have to join a gym to get in shape, nor do you need special equipment.

I teach mainly two types of exercise programs. MATflow (a blend of pilates and yoga) and ZUMBA fitness & toning (an aerobic workout that feels more like a party. I believe that together these two programs give your body everything it needs for a complete workout.

Some people choose just the MATflow and find their cardio workout in other ways. Others choose just the ZUMBA for a fat-burning workout and (hopefully) find another way to stretch and strengthen the body.

After 20 years of teaching many different exercise programs I have found the perfect mix to keep me motivated. Every class is different. Exercise is NOT boring. Come and try it. No experience is necessary. We have experienced exercisers and raw beginners. Everyone is welcome.

History

Established in 1998.

I had been teaching a variety of group exercise classes for years and years, zipping from one gym to another all over Bakersfield. I found myself more and more drawn to yoga and pilates, which way back then was not taught in gyms. January 1998 I rented space downtown at Centre-Stage Dance Studio. After a couple of years I opened my own studio in the northeast, and summer 2009 (due to the economy and noisy neighbors) I closed that space and went back to classes at Centre-Stage and am also currently renting the beautiful dance room at Bakersfield College.

I discovered Zumba Fitness in 2007 and become one of the first licensed Zumba instructors in Bakersfield. More recently I became licensed to teach Zumba Toning and now the majority of my Zumba classes include Zumba toning.

Age 19 I first began practicing yoga. Stopped at age 27. For about 13 years I was a gym-rat. I was «in-shape» and in pain. Age 40 I took up yoga again and that pain disappeared. I soon added pilates to my practice and have found it good for posture and training the body to work as a unit.

I am an adjunct faculty member at Bakersfield College where I teach Matflow (pilates/yoga), Cardio-kickboxing, and Dance Aerobics. I am now in my 50’s and still learning. I apply what I learn, my classes are constantly evolving.
