Absolutely delicious!!! The hot peppers were the perfect amount of heat and the portion size was excellent. I got the Jewish style grinder with everything and finished the entire thing in one sitting, I couldn’t stop eating.

Really sorry about this. What happened to Lee’s? I’ve been going to Lee’s since high school days when Cheltenham Ave was their only store(the days before franchising). My visit today to the Rock Hill Rd location was truly disappointing. The store itself is in need of a deep cleaning! Walls were greasy(see the area behind the holding shelves where the pickup orders wait). Helter-skelter wires(phone, extension cords, and whatever crisscrossing the wall) The side of the fountain soda machine was was dark with filth, or maybe that was rust. Please use a bit of Mr. Clean on the cash register to remove years of fingerprints and dirt, and the faded hand-written sign held up with peeling masking tape. Also, do we really need the dim lighting? Is that to save a few bucks a month on electricity or is that to hide the lack of cleaning? Please note: According to the latest health inspection report from July 2015( ), there were 7 violations and several were repeat violations. I find it interesting that they did not have a food safety management certification(i.e. MCHDCFSM). It was never a sparkling place but I ignored it in the past because I liked the flavorful hoagies, Now for the food: I ordered a cheesesteak with provolone, fried onions and hot peppers and a Lee’s Italian Cheltenham(double italian meats). The cheesesteak was decent(3 – 4 stars) although it was hard to taste the cheese. The hoagie was a different story. Where was the flavor? The quality and taste of the meats was lacking. They must have changed vendors or started ordering cheaper meats. The genoa salami had none of the characteristic fermented salami flavor. The ham and capicola were flavorless and was the provolone. The bread too was lacking. Sorry, but Lee’s on Rock Hill Road is now off my list. I don’t know if other Lee’s locations have gone downhill but I did have a good experience at the North Towne Plaza(E. Norriton) location about a year ago.

3 stars sums it up. The service was overly slow for a quiet Sunday night. Multiple young employees worked like chickens without heads behind the counter. When we finally got our cheesesteaks after an unreasonably long wait, the kid said they’d made our order wrong and had to remake it. It would have been nice if they would have updated us when they made it the first time. The place seems a little dingy. I don’t know if it’s dirty, or clean and just old. The steaks were delish. Not my favorite in town and not as big as some others, but definitely settled the craving for someone who hasn’t been back to Philly in 3 years. Not the best; not the worst.

Went out on a limb after the reading these reviews and was very surprised. Service was great and the food was even better. I ordered an «Ultimate Wrap»(Chicken, cheese, bacon…) and it was excellent. Chicken was grilled and seasoned well. I was impressed that bacon was fresh unlike most places who just warm it before each sandwich. Highly recommend!

Hot pulled pork with bbq and provolone, damn tasty. Owner is on the grill, which is nice. Food gets right out. Hit the spot.

Got the Lee’s cheltenham… Pros: generous portion size… Thick, filled with meat. Good buns. Cons: quality of the meat just wasn’t there. These guys have the right idea, but the ingredients lack the flavor and texture of good meat.

I miss Lee’s on Lancaster Ave in Wynnewood. I got a tuna recently from bala location and it lacked tuna! Put more tuna in the sandwich! Too many better options these days. Lee’s time has passed. Also 3 sandwichs costed 27+ dollars.

It’s a sad day when I’m forced to give once venerable Lees Hoagies a three star review, but I must. Simply put, if I ask for a buffalo chicken cheesesteak, expect it to be buffaloed, I don’t expect to get buffaloed. I’m sorry that this instance of «People Who Take Food Orders: The Case for Eugenics», has to involve Lees. But we can’t tolerate mistakes, even by the stupidest among us.

This place is terrible. Food tastes awful. Their meats have no taste our texture. It is the worst quality. I would avoid it at all costs. The service was also on the slow side. The place was not the cleanest.

This is a sad tale of what can happen when you don’t trust Unilocal.Sunday boo and I were on our way home from a weekend getaway when the convo came up as to where we were going to get our Sunday cheat meal. I take my cheat meals VERY seriously and did not want to blow it on something that would not make me feel self conscious moments after finishing. Boo suggested hoagies and that was fine by me because I am a sucker for a fresh Italian on Amaroso. We were on 76 and the recommendation came out of nowhere for Lee’s. Peeped Unilocal and and was def not impressed. Boo said«we always look at Unilocal before we go every where, just ignore it and lets go here» for shame for shame. Well the hoagie can only be described as 5th grade lunch quality. Cheap meat that lacked variety and extremely thin sliced cheese. In the hoagies capital of world this bad decision making to put in hockey terms would be like trading away your two best players, signing a 31 year old Russian lunatic, then trading away his 23 year old back up who happens to be the best goalie in the entire league. Yes, my ill advised hoagie was as detrimental to my Sunday as Flyers GM paul Holmgren has been to the success of the team over the past two years. Next hoagie I get it’s Souphilly or bust.

Absolutely HORRIBLE! WORST chicken cheesesteak I’ve ever had anywhere in my entire life. It tasted like they half cooked it in the juice of some kind of dead fish. NEVEREVEREATHEREIFYOUARESMART!

Ok, I rarely write reviews but I am so aggravated I felt compelled to write one here. Been in here a few times and while the steak was ok, as another poster observed, they overchop the meat for the cheesesteaks… and I mean really overchop it to the point of it simply not having a meat texture anymore. It literally looks like little pebbles of meat on the bun so it is falling off the roll as you are trying to eat it. The cleanliness was hit and miss. I don’t like having to wipe down my own table. I understand if it’s busy they might not have time to do it in between customers but there are times I go in and there won’t be a single customer in the shop and I still have to wipe my own table down, gross. C’mon guys, cleanliness is big when eating out. Now for the one positive. After continually getting steaks that were overchopped down in to what looked like tiny pebbles of meat, I decided to try the cheeseburgers and to my surprise, they were quite good!!! Tasty and juicy. They were a little on the small side but they were very reasonably priced so two of them would do the trick. I figured«ah, I have a new burger takeout place!». Unfortunately, it’s the hamburgers which are forcing me to give them a one star. Three weeks ago I walk in, try to order the cheeseburgers and was told«sorry, we are out of hamburger rolls» so annoyed, I left. Three nights later I go in to order the same thing and was told«sorry, we are out of hamburgers»(seriously, two visits in a row?). Now I am really annoyed at this point so I don’t go back for two weeks(who has ever heard of a takeout shop being out of the same thing two visits in a row?). Finally, I go back in tonight to order some cheeseburgers and was told(I wish I was making this up) «sorry, we are out of hamburger rolls». Three visits in a row. Twice they are out of hamburger rolls and once out of hamburgers. What awful supply management. I keep trying to give them my money and I can’t get them to take it. Guys, here’s a hint, if you keep running of things your customers order, try ordering more of them, it’s not rocket science. I’m done driving over from Manayunk only to hear«sorry…» and then going to a different takeout shop. I won’ be back again.

Not a fan. I first ent here two years ago, and was treated incredibly rudely by the female owner. Maybe I’m not the target demographic but is it necessary to sneer at me for ordering a cheesesteak? Seriously? And to add even more insult, it was a crappy cheesesteak if not the worst I’ve had in Philly. I came back about a week ago as the person I was with really wanted to go. The same female-owner was there and took our order normally. We had cheeseburgers, which were good. But again, we were yelled at for ‘not paying’ or some garbage, although we had tried to pay at different times and the owner had been busy and obviously weren’t going to leave the store without paying. It should be pretty obvious it sucks as it is the center of Penn’s campus and is relatively empty whenever I walk past.

Been going to various Lee’s locations for years. Until 15 years ago I thought Lee’s were the best hoagies in Phila — that is until I became educated(and became a food snob) and was introduced to a real hoagie on a Sarcones or Liscio seeded roll. I ordered a cheese steak hoagie. Lee’s rolls are awful — they’re very airy, no substance to them. Also, there’s was not enough meat on the cheese steak hoagie, and the meat that is there just squeezes out the sides. Also, the meat was chopped. For years they did not chop their meat — not sure what their other locations do. There was also hardly any lettuce, tomato or onion on it. It’s also too expensive for an average hoagie with smaller portions. The girls behind the counter were pleasant, the place was clean — but it was freezing cold in there. I’ll stick w/Primo’s, Cosimo’s, Sarcone’s, Di Bruno’s or any of the places in Reading Terminal Market.

Ended up eating here twice during my recent trip to philadelphia. The staff was very nice. Ended up getting a italian hoagie. That was okay. A half hoagie is huge! I really didn’t want to eat my leftovers. Second time I tried the steak sandwich which was ok as well. WHat I loved was the Broccolli bites. They were amazing.

Note: This review is for take out/delivery only. While planning a going away lunch for a friend in the office, I was told enormous hoagies were a must-have item for anyone leaving Philly. «Lee’s is famous,» or so my Philly-raised coworkers told me, and I now understand why the sandwich shop is so well known. Special thanks to Paul PJ Y. for also recommending Lee’s in Bala Cynwyd! A friendly woman from Lee’s helped me place my order by phone. I requested three 3′ long hoagies — one turkey & provolone, one Italian & one vegetarian — for lunch delivery. For about $ 150(delivery included) the hoagies fed 25 people and we had plenty of leftovers. Each 3′ hoagie was stacked to the brim with a variety of meats, cheeses & veggies. The hoagies arrived dry, intact & with a large brown bag full of extras including mayo, oil w/seasonings, onions, sweet peppers, hot sauce & pickles. The bread Lee’s used was soft, seedless & large. It did not have a crusty exterior like Sarcone’s which suited the sandwiches better because they were already so thick. After adding sweet peppers & hot sauce, my veggie sub(already full of mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, peppers & provolone) was delish! I’m also grateful that Lee’s didn’t go overboard with the cheese — they added just the right amount & didn’t skimp on the veggies. I can’t speak to the turkey or Italian ones, but I do know they went fast. **The pic is pretty bad, but it gives a sense of the girth of the hoagies. 5 stars for friendly service, prompt delivery & quality of food for a large group.
