Why am I waiting an hour and a half (so far) for an oil change? Made an appointment for 9am and its 10:30. Second time I’ve been here but these guys are just way too slow for basic service. I’ll be going somewhere else next time.

I brought my car in to get a tie change. They told me they would call when it’s done (I did offer to leave it there instead of waiting) but the service guy said he would call me…
2 hours later… Nothing… I continued to wait… Nothing… The next day they opened at 8 or 9 (I forgot) … Not a call… So I called them and complained that I did not get a call and I asked if it was done. It took him 4 minutes to finally come back to the phone and he told me it was done. I asked him when it was completed because I’ve been waiting to come pick it up and they did not have a time… Poor customer service

I’ve been here with many friends over the years, only because I’m a good friend, though I refuse to bring my car to this dump for any reason.
If you want an oil change, especially if there is an advertised sale, you will still be overcharged even after you member card is rung in.
If you have a nail in your tire, they will still try to tell you that you need to purchase 2 new tires, no matter what.
They will recommend 3 other services that you are not interested in, no matter how firmly you tell them YOU ONLY NEED ONE THING.
If you for some strange reason, decide to let them rotate your tires or perform some ridiculous service that you don’t need just because they said it would be free, it will not be free and they will use any excuse to try and scam your money.
The last time I was here, a friend needed a tire plugged due to a piece of glass.
He told us to come back in 2 hours. Wow. We had no choice but to wait because the tire was leaking air badly.
3 hours later, they were still not done.
The employee at the desk could not help us ring up and go home because he was trying to explain to a teenager and her 2 elderly relatives that they lost their car keys and thought perhaps the employee left their keys underneath the seat of someone else’s car, whom had already left.
I wish this was a joke. It never gets better here.

Came here because they are really the only mechanic open until 9. I came here on Monday and there was no wait. There was also no one there because it was 8:15 so I’m glad they still took me. I read the reviews prior to coming so I was expecting the worst. 45 minutes later my oil change and inspection was done, not too crazy. They mentioned something about my brakes in typical Pep Boys fashion but I politely declined because I’d like to get a second opinion. I would recommend coming during their slow hours like late at night on a weekday or early in the morning on a weekday. Like the Unilocal stars say my visit was A-​OK — nothing spectacular but nothing horrific

bad bad bad. Worst! Experience. The moment you get your car in here. They start to try to squeeze as much money as possible from you. They made me feel that I am driving a suicide machine. And lot needs to be replaced in car. Ah what a scam!

I don’t know what happened to the first review I wrote about this Pep Boys but here we go again.
Never have I felt more unwanted and ignored in a store that I have gone to to spend my money.
Recently I ordered on line a floor jack. Having had bad experiences at this store before, I knew not to pay in advance, and to pay after I actually saw the product, in stock, and that it was new.
Although online said they were in stock and allowed the sale to go through, When I got to the store to pick it up none in stock. Went to a different store and got it.
Ordered wipers and air filter on line. After confirmation email saying order was ready, come get it, I went to the checkout counter, was sent to the parts department. After a proper amount of time being ignored, my counterman went to pull the parts that had already been pulled for my order, so he could not find them. After the search, parts were found in the pile of pulled parts. Another waste of time.
The last straw, I made an appointment for a tire rotation, waited on line with TWO people in front of me for fifteen minutes No acknowledgement, no hello, no nothing. I left. Still getting email requests to reschedule. 10,20, and 30% off offers are good, but I’m done!

I was told I needed tie bars on my 08 jeep…$ 800.00…went to a REPUTABLE mechanic and I was told my tie bars were fine!!! Wont be going back again. EVER

I’ll preface this by saying that the Service Manager is a good guy. He did the right thing by me and I wish I could remember his name so that I could thank him.
That being said, Pep boys is a total SHIT SHOW.
I had a leak in my tire so I made a service appointment online for 7:00 pm.
Arrived early at 6:30 pm, was told they can’t take the car yet. Fine.
7:30 pm… car still hasn’t gone in.
They finally take the car in around 7:40 pm. I’m looking at it through the service window just sitting there in the garage.
It’s now 8:00 pm. Patching a damaged tire should take all of 20 minutes. I’ve been here an hour and a half.
(I should add that multiple people were waiting for their cars for hours, and no one’s work seemed to be getting completed)
I get the car back around 8:20 pm. 2 hours of my life gone forever… but hey, at least it’s fixed right?
Wake up the next morning… SAME TIRE IS GOING FLAT.
I have to take the car back to Pep Boys at 8:00 AM, Service Manager finds the hole that they obviously MISSED the night before (because the tire is deflating at the same speed it was deflating at the previous day), but he tries to tell me it’s A NEW LEAK. Wants to charge me AGAIN… C’MON MAN…
**THE ONLY REASON THIS WASN’T A 1 STAR REVIEW (AND A CORPORATE COMPLAINT TO PEP BOYS) IS THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER ENDED UP DOING THE RIGHT THING. HE DIDN’T CHARGE ME TWICE. HE FIXED THE TIRE.**
That being said, I’m not sure I’d ever go back to Pep Boys. Overall it’s just a miserable place, no one (customers or employees) seem content to be there, and judging by the other Unilocal reviews, the work they do is pure shit.
Find yourself a trustworthy garage and avoid this place.

Could these people appear any less interested??? Came in for a NYS inspection. 1 ½ hours later and now they just took my car in. No eye contact throughout. No smile. No care. Ughhhh… thank god it’s only once a year.

I read Unilocal reviews often, but rarely if ever have written one. But this time I just couldn’t resist. If only there was a negative star option. I made an appointment online for 8:00. When I arrived, the disgruntled gentleman at the service counter said the online reservation system is not working. I needed new front brakes, pads, calipers, and rotors, I knew this going in. I’ve had this job done many times and never cost more than $ 250, the only reason I went to pep boys is because my regular mechanic couldn’t take me that day. After 2 hours, he tells me its going to be $ 750+… I should have known better than to take it here in the first place, but I figured I was in a pinch for time so I was willing to pay a little more than the usual price. I obviously declined to have the work done there, but they still generously charged me 16 bucks for the «inspection.» While I was waiting I also had to listen to the two service counter employees arguing with each other about previous mistakes that were made to other customers cars/​invoices. This place is such a joke, unprofessional and unreasonable. I will NEVER come back to pep boys for anything, not an oil change, not a part, not tires, nothing! I get that parts need to be marked up etc… but what an outrageous estimate.

I went to pep boys in Baldwin to get a routine oil change after driving my car for a short period my oil light came on and the my engine seized on a major parkway. I had it towed to a nearby mechanic and he said the oil filter was missing. The oil filter had called. Off. I did not hit anything nor was there any damage to the undercarriage of the car. I then contacted pep boys and had it towed to the store in Baldwin were they looked at my car for over a month conducting a so called investigation. After being without my car for over a month, pep boys declared they were not a fault. My car is destroyed they are not taking responsibility for it and I feel like they are the ones at fault. Do not use pep boys they are cheaters. If anyone else has had this happen then please share with everyone because I do not want this to happen to them. I had to give them one star or I couldn’t post this. I hate pep boys.

I dropped my car off at 8:30am for an oil change and was told it will be 45mins (we will call you). When I returned at 9:45am (by the way no phone call at 9:15) to be told my car is next and the excuse was one of the service areas is not working. This shit is ridiculous! Tell the customer it will be about 45mins to an hour, is better than saying 45mins and when your not done within 45mins you have to invent an excuse as to why! Some bullshit! My oil change should be FREE! Zero stars should be the only option for this so called pep boys more like RECT BOYS! F***k disorganized!

Wish I could give this place NO STARS.
I dropped my car off with a busted brake line, and pep boys called me and found $ 800 worth of «necessary» repairs, I kindly said thanks but no thanks I’ll pick my car up.
Took my car to a another place, and guess what, my brake line ended up costing me $ 100…buyer beware, these guys are scam artist

The worst place to bring your car/​truck for inspection or anything else. You will wait 3 – 5 hours and then be told your vehicle needs 700.00 in work in order to pass inspection. I wish I had read Unilocal reviews on pep boys (Baldwin) before bringing my car their. I was totally ripped off.

Do I really need to give this a star? My honey and I had gone to have his SUV inspected. My honey is very obsessed about taking care of his car and checks everything before he brings it in for inspection. After waiting 3 hours, they found $ 400 worth of repairs including $ 22.00 for a light bulb. He looked over the bill and all the parts were doubled in price, plus they charged a hefty price for installation.
We were exhausted from all the waiting, and so he decided to just let them do the work, rather than have a 10 day permit and have to start all over again, plus the $ 37.50 again for re-​inspection and our time and aggravation.
Never, ever again will we bring our cars here. Please read this as having negative four stars.

The most horrible experience I’ve had a repair shop to date. Waited for 2 hours for a employee to come over and tell me that my car had yet to be inspected. I came in with ample time to spare and waited for close to 4-​hours before even having my brakes worked on. Once they checked it out, the inexperienced cashier lady explained to me how much my car would cost and the problems which totaled to near $ 1,500. I later googled the parts that needed replacement and found they totaled $ 200. Accounting for labor, I’m flabbergasted at how the residual costs were calculated. She then later suggested that my well maintained vehicle was too dangerous to drive although the brake light maintenance icon disappeared from my dashboard. I will try another shop tomorrow, and am positive that the results will be different. All-​in-​all, I will not be returning and owe Pep Boys to wasting away my day!

The absolute worst place. If you’re thinking about going to this place– please find another place that actually knows what they’re doing! Went there because my check engine light was on. I don’t have a mechanic and since I’m a female I felt local shops would try to rip me off but not a chain like pep boys. I made an appointment to bring my car in at 10 am. The woman at the desk said she would call when they’re done doing the diagnostic. I asked how long, she said about 1 – 2 hours. They never called me. So I finally called around 1:30 and she told me what the problem was– everything adding up to around $ 350. I told her I couldn’t have the work done that day because I had things to do. They charged $ 50 for the check engine diagnostic. I went a couple of days later to have my car fixed. The same woman said she spoke to her manager and $ 50 would be taken off from my bill. Dropped my car off at 10 and I get a phone call at 4pm saying it’s actually going to cost more. I ask how much and the same woman I’ve been dealing with, tells me 425. I tell her fine, I just want the work to get done. Finally I get a phone call at 7 saying my car is ready. I mention the $ 50 being taken off the bill to one of the guys upfront. He said there’s nothing taken off the bill then he tells me the bill is $ 640! I then lost my cool and proceeded to rant about that not being the price I was given and there was absolutely no way I was paying $ 640! That’s $ 200 more than the price I was given. The manager then came over, reduced the bill to $ 428 and I didn’t mention anything about the $ 50 being taken off. I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Long story long, don’t go there if you can help it! Customer service is absolutely terrible– it’s like the free health clinic for cars!

The only reason why this place is getting 1 star is because I can’t give it 0. They can’t run a service center and the employees are rude. I scheduled an online appointment and was told that it doesn’t matter they don’t keep bays open for appointment, so you have to wait with the rest of people who just walk in. Never again.

I use a company owned car and I am responsible to maintain and take it in for maintenance and repairs. I am limited to where I can go because of the leasing company. So I have to take it to some big chain place that accepts their payments.
Don’t know how or why an Oil change takes 3 hours here. Or replacing a battery involves leaving it overnight. Or changing a tire is 4 hours.
While waiting over an hour for an oil change I walked outside and around and saw the mechanics just standing around doing nothing.
I went back inside and asked how long and the guy said «does it matter aren’t you getting paid to sit here and wait»
Thankfully my company changed the lease plan and we are able to take it to jiffy lube where it takes them 30 minutes or less.

I will avoid this place like the plague from now on.
Last summer: I asked them to recharge my AC. $ 400 later, the AC was recharged… along with a bunch of other things that I didn’t ask for or want. They said, «if you don’t, you’re just gonna lose your freon». So… $ 400 spent.
Less than a year later, I turn on the AC and it blows hot. So, I now I have to have the AC recharged by someone who actually knows about ACs.
Another story: my wife brought one of my cars in to have a tire repaired. Pep Boys called and said it couldn’t be repaired and «we should replace all four tires.» Note: the four tires had less than 15% wear on them. So, I called them out on it. They insisted the tires should all be replaced. I reminded them that the tires were all still under warranty. They hung up on me rudely. They kept my car for 8 hours. Guess what they did? Once they learned they wouldn’t make a buck on me by replacing tires that are under warranty, they went ahead and repaired the one tire like I asked.
