Advance Remodeling, Inc.

Don’t use this company you will regret you did. The comany does poor quaility work but charges a high quality price. My tile floor came up after only a few months, now were having roof issues. The list goes on and on. Nightmare!!!

Advanced Remodeling inc in review:
1. Mortar used to fill in spaces in lieu of bricks (picture)
2. Front yard disregarded and left clutter including crushing flowers, trash and numerous cigarette butts (picture)
3. Only one side of brick columns pointed up having to micromanage work and staff on premises (pictures)
4. Allowing exposed wires to touch resulting in short circuiting of the gfi. Which took days to diagnose. (picture)
5. Bricks left on windowsill not securing premises (picture)
6. Had to ask more than once to get brick on front of house filled in (pictures)
7. Caulking overdone noticed by more than one person including staff of advanced remodeling noting it was done incorrectly (picture)
8. Sump pump pipes corrected twice to costumers satisfaction. First 2 times employee of advanced remodeling either showed up unprepared or snuck out without approval of costumer.
9. Basement flooded after advanced remodeling removed bricks and stones bracing outside gutter. (pictures)
10. Outdoor porch light took over 3 weeks to be reinstalled by the homeowners because of constant avoidance by advanced remodeling to acknowledge or take action.
Contractual issues:
1. Stated in contract haul away work related debris… pictures of trash sitting at home numerous days in a row
2. Initially recommended to homeowner to get basement wall stuccoed without visually inspecting excessive water stained wall and floor in basement.
3. An «addendum» written 5÷13÷15 cover box system with new aluminum facing and soft fit when advanced remodeling made no effort to preserve original aluminum or soffit resulting in greater expense but why was this box system sold to us without pricing for new facing and soffit???
4. Prep and caulk in joints before painting $ 300???
5. Porch ceiling replaces with 2+ pieces of plywood, and soffit estimated cost $ 1200
6. Gutter discussion was misinterpreted and advanced remodeling instead of removing and maintaining integrity of original product destroyed gutter resulting in additional cost for a replacement gutter (picture)
7. After discussing our concerns of the stucco for the basement not being weatherized the contract writer Irwin rushed over to write up an addendum stating «1. Costumer is aware that there could be leakage in the front basement and therefor recommends not finishing off walls» please see number 2 under contractual issues. The homeowner asked Irwin to define leakage and he would not give an estimated amount of 2 cups of water to 8 gallons of water as what preventative measures the original stucco idea would prevent…
8. Homeowners wrote up a contract of our own to counter advanced remodeling’s inconsistent contract writing+
9. Addendum 4÷23÷15 a sump pump system is decided upon as a better plan of action for the home and Erwin states that because our fuse box is located on the back of the house the sump pump system would be «temporarily» connected unless we wanted to hire an electrician (first choice being an electrician employeed by advanced remodeling) to hardwire or build in a single outlet for the sump pump to function.

I signed a contract on 6÷16÷15 for Advanced remodeling to replace gutters on my house. I asked for a date for installation on the day I signed the contract, and Irwin (claimed to be the owner of the business, which appears to be false) told me that the work would be completed in no later than 2 weeks from the date that I signed the contract. I didn’t hear from anyone at Advance Remodeling about making that appointment for the work to be done, and my Wells Fargo account has already been charged for the full amount ($ 5100). Maryland law states: «A contractor cannot accept more than ¹⁄₃ of the contract price as a deposit» — It is not clear to me how this law affects a loan situation.
I called several times over the course of the last 2 weeks, but the phone wasn’t answered every time I called. I finally left a message before the business opened, early on 6÷26÷15.
I stated (for the 3^rd time to this company) that I desperately need these repairs done, as there are literally gutters hanging off of my house, and it is a safety hazard. No one returned my call. I left another voice mail for them on 6÷29÷15. Again, no response.
I called again this morning, and spoke to someone described only as a «project manager» who told me to «calm down» after I told him that I’ve been trying to contact them for 2 weeks with no response. I told him that the whole reason I was going with Advance Remodeling was because their salesman had promised the work would be completed within 2 weeks, and that 2 weeks had come and gone with Advance Remodeling making no attempt to get back to me about scheduling the work, or bothering to return my phone calls. I didn’t raise my voice to him, I just explained that I was getting frustrated since he seemed to have no idea what I was talking about, even after he looked up my info.
The project manager promised to call me back within 20 minutes with an update. Nearly an hour went by with no promised phone call, so I called back. Joy answered the phone, I asked for the project manager (she told be that his name is Brian). She put me on hold, then came back on the line and said «he is busy and also has another call on hold» and that I can’t talk to him. I asked if I could speak to someone else, and she said «no, there is no one else.» I asked for the owner, John Dickinson, and she said «no, he isn’t available.» I then explained the full ordeal to Joy, reiterating that I have a safety hazard with gutters literally hanging off the side of my house, ready to fall where cars get parked, the mailman delivers my mail, etc. She didn’t have any response other than «someone will get back to you.» I asked her to verify that someone would get back to me today, and she said «they will get back to you as soon as possible.»
Three things give me a bad feeling about this transaction: (1) — The salesman claimed to be the owner of the business, which appears to be false (2) — The salesman stated multiple times that the work would be completed within 2 weeks of the contract being signed, as the need for these repairs is quite urgent. (3) — The project manager treated me more like an annoyance than someone who had just given them 5 grand before they did any work on my home. The person who answered the phone at Advance Remodeling also made no attempt to help me get in touch with someone else who might be able to offer me some kind of immediate assistance.
Perhaps they have done fantastic work in the past, but my experience so far makes me wish that I had gone with someone else.

I’m a very detailed person and working with Advanced Remodeling, inc never once made me feel like I was too picky or annoying when I explained what I was looking for to make my vision come to life.
I really liked the service and help I got on every detail.

I am very happy with the overall process in which I received from Advanced Remodeling. From start to finish it was a very polished operation, quote was fair, timeframe was good and end price arrived with no surprises.
I never really like dealing with contractors and the process is usually a hassle with many surprises, I did not experience this with Advanced. Thanks again.

Asked for an estimate and was told both my husband and I had to be there for it. Considering that I manage all the household issues, this is sexist decision by the company and have no desire to work with a company like that! Thanks for saving me time right up front!

They missed an appointment because they had the wrong day scheduled. This was followed up with a second appointment that didn’t happen because my pregnant wife had to go the doctor. Advanced will not come unless both parties are in attendance; regardless of the circumstance. I still requested an estimate and they won’t send someone because both of us are unable to listen to their sales pitch. My wife is past due and it is a huge inconvenience to take off work twice to get an estimate for new siding. For a company to not show up is inexcusable. It says a lot about their priorities and professionalism. I’ll take my money elsewhere and gladly pay someone who follows through and is understanding.
