This place has been stop and go for a few years as the owner has been a teacher. He is back running the place and I found a nice guy with a cool little tea room with a counter serving a good 30 or more teas. The place adds a funky cool décor to several other businesses in Station North. This one is right behind Penn Station and blocks from the University of Baltimore! Good coffee and some small veggie food items. Tye décor is cool, funky, a little zen and decorated with coffee sacks.

I made this account just to rate this place. I was carrying two heavy suitcases after visiting a friend in Baltimore. She told me I had to kill time at Café Sage before my train back home. I headed there then happened to pass it and overshoot it by 10 minutes, so I walked 20 mins longer with my bags. I got to the café looking like a disaster, and the café was closed, which I didn’t realize because the door was unlocked. The owner didn’t even hesitate and insisted I sit down and he brewed me a cup of coffee. The nicest man on earth(and great coffee!)

What the heck happened to this place? Based on reviews, I expected pour over coffee and local baked goods at the very least. What they actually had was ONE pot of drip coffee(not even decaf or espresso) and a minimal selection of commercial eats. I’ve had better truck stop coffee and baked goods.

Cage Sage is a calm, buddhist decorated café near Penn Station. The pour overs are delicious and the price is below most coffee shops I have been to. I was getting 2.8mbps down on the internet when no one else was around, which is not Netflix worthy(which shouldn’t be done in a coffee shop anyway), but plenty good for web browsing and emailing. The coffee guy is real friendly too.

The exterior does not begin to describe the cool little café residing on the streets of Baltimore. Café Sage really hit the spot with their coffee(a little bitter to my taste, but then again I am used to DD’s pumpkin with cream a sugar which isn’t really even coffee) and the DELICIOUS three cheese melt with avocado, grilled onions, and tomatoes. The sandwich came with a small side salad my cousin enjoyed as well. The interior is warm and welcoming with a Buddhist flair. Seating is rather limited, but we had no problem finding room at the large dining table. Café Sage provides a comfortable space to sit and pass the time or do homework(their WiFi was EONS faster than some other cafes in the area). Overall, delicious, warm, and friendly!

Ppl are nice here and cool Buddhism decoration. Coffee machine is broken here but tea and pear Danish are good. I will come back to check their latte. Btw, it’s really close to penn station!!! Which is nice to enjoy coffee and afternoon.

Delicious coffee made by technique called a pour-over. Takes a little while but it is worth it. Also great paninis. Definitely will come back.

UPDATE! Since I last fawned all over this place the management has changed hands twice and the new group is riding high off the great City Paper Review that Dane and crew received during the first management. They get their baked good from Patisserie Poupon which is decent but not Woodberry Kitchen decent like before. Overall it’s alright but it’s not OMG like it was.

A great little café right across from the Penn Station parking lot on Lanvale. They’re doing things right: coffee from local roaster Thread, honey gathered from urban hives just a few blocks away, and delicious cookies baked from scratch by a local bakery. The woman who hooked me up with my caffeine fix was friendly and knowledgeable. I had whatever coffee was in their vacuum thermos, which I understand is made in a french press ahead of time. I added a splash of cream – probably produced nearby. The cup had a nice herbal quality with hints of cardamom. Not too strong, either. I also had a ginger cookie that blew my mind. A dark, not-too-sweet, chewy molasses cookie with chunks of ginger throughout. A regular coffee + ginger cookie was an affordable $ 3. Expect to pay 2x that at Spro or another artisan coffee shop. Keep up the good work!

This place is great! Got a really good cup of counter culture coffee.(Usually I find counter culture to be bitter/too intense) They used a cool fancy brewing method, looked like a pour over, but in a glass vessel that made a really delicious cup. The interior design is really nice and relaxing. Got a sample of a spicy cookie that was ultra-good. Good service! Very friendly and pleasant. I hope they get more food options in the future. Highly recommend this place.

Took a chance on this newly opened café, behind Penn Station between Charles & St Paul, and was rewarded with the best pork shoulder sandwich I’ve ever tasted. The menu and the seating area are both small, but the people behind the counter are friendly artists working in the medium of high-quality, locally-sourced food. From them I understand that their main business is selling Higher Grounds coffee and baked goods in the morning, but I’ll definitely be returning for lunch before it gets too popular to find a seat.
