I was scared to rent from hertz at BWI due to reviews. But did it because they honor USAA! That over seen the bad in my option. I hate rental counters so tried to use the machine. I was told had to goto the counter because I am a first time gold member… I am super glade I got the chance too. I met a super nice girl who welcomed me with a smile Myka Curry. In 3 Mins I had paper work in my hand and went to my car. I got to my car and noticed it was not what I booked It was a journey. I go back in side I told her that isn’t what I book she then asked me if a highlander would be ok I said yes. After driving off I noticed it was not AWD that is what I needed. But that is ok it worked out for me in the long run. I goto return the car and again reading reviews I was nervous but instead was welcomed again by another smiling girl named Malika she was so sweet and nice. She asked me how it went I told her It was awesome. I did ask to speak to a manger outside to tell them how great these two ladies have been (Myka Curry & Malika). Once again the manger I spoke with outside Stephanie she was new was super nice as well. She asked me how my rental was I told her everything was great just the fact it wasn’t a AWD SUV. She gave me a $ 25.00 Credit to come back in the further and rent the correct car! Amazing staff from start to end!!! Don’t let Unilocal reviews influence your choice at BWI Pick Hertz!!! Please give some big up’s to these Ladies they were all great!

I am a gold member, and getting in and out is easy. Since I get to use a corporate discount code the prices are good (without the code they are silly expensive). Never get the gas option, there are plenty of near by gas stations (I use the Royal Farm on Nursery Road). Never use the toll pass. I had $ 6 in tolls and they charged me well over $ 20.
For the renting part, I would give them a 5 start rating, but the price gouging on the tolls and gas makes them look like crooks.

Let’s see. You have a new policy that a gas receipt is required if you drive 75 miles or less. You don’t make it clear. I drive 50 miles and top off with 2 gallons before returning ($ 5 cash). You charge $ 14 due to the fact I didn’t get a receipt. Discussing it with the local agents as well as the call center brings no resolution.
A current Gold member that won’t be returning.

Not even zero star, I want to put negative star for this place.
First didn’t get the car I asked (I booked like 2 months in advance), then the person at the counter (who was not helpful at all) gave me a car driven almost 40K which is extremely old car for a rental car, and it was not clean at all. I couldn’t put any drink in the cup holder since there were sticky stains all over in it. Also the brakes in this car was extremely bad, so I had hard time to get used to this bad car while I am driving.
And this guy didn’t take care of my rental procedure well, so the exit gate sent me back to him which made me waste 15 mins at least. When I went back to him, there was no apologizes from him, just made me wait for 5 – 10 mins. And he opened two contracts by mistake (or on purpose) for the same car so I could be charged twice for the one car.
When I am back, I checked my credit card, and there was a wrong charge around $ 100 completed which made me extremely upset after all these bad experiences. I had to open a dispute for this charge and got the money back. I had very good experiences with Hertz in different airports, that’s why I used Hertz this time as well, but not in BWI apparently.
Add: I saw couple of comments they put for the old reviews asking some information and they try to look like they are willing to help, but don’t get fooled. I called customer service and sent email to get help but nothing happened for 1 week. I just resolved my issue in one day by calling to the credit card company.

I normally would have given this location higher ratings. My experience this last trip was not so impressive. My reserved car was not in the spot assigned and all the Gold Choice cars were gone. A had to ask two attendants that finally lined up a car. A Nisan Altima with 35,000+ miles. The car was in good shape, but soon after I left the airport area I discovered the left rear tire had low pressure. I also was disappointed that the only means to charge a phone was via the car lighter which apparently did not have the proper juice to charge my phone. My charging cord works in my personal car without issue. I have had many other Hertz rental cars with multiple plug ins (Lighter, USB, or 110V). This past year I have seen too many Hertz cars that are in an aging fleet. I do hope they are replacing soon.

I have rented from this location before and have had no issues. When I rented this week, they were very helpful: they held my Gold car for me for 3 hours past the pickup time to accomodate me.
The car (Chevy Equinox), had 20k miles on it but was clean and had no issues.
One piece of advice — never, ever, ever get the gas option — it’s not worth it — everyone should know that. And if your car has too many miles just ask them to please give you a lower mileage one. works every time for me.

Good value and great gas mileage, but…
The car I rented was a compact car, the gas mileage was great and the staff was helpful. Unfortunately the car had 40,000 miles on it. It was all dinged and marked up. They did not clean the car after the previous renter returned the car, there was trash all over, chocolate on the steering wheel, a glass bottle in the trunk that kept banging around, and the floors were disgusting. I felt like I was borrowing a friend’s car. I rented the car on hotwire for $ 13/​day so I am not totally pissed but it was gross.

Consistently one of the worst places to rent a car. Poor service, poor selection. Vehicles are always dirty and they are never staffed properly to get people out of the garage.
Although I primarily rent from Hertz, without a choice, for business, I have found that they will gouge your pricing if you try to use reward points. I was charged for fuel although I returned the vehicle full.
I’ve seen a few weak responses from a bored Hertz representative on Unilocal but I doubt it amounts to anything more than show. They do not respond to their own customer service questionnaires, why would they care about Unilocal

So to start off I waited 20 minutes for the airport shuttle to take me to the rental facility. Every bus was full that came (5 to be exact). I ended up taking a taxi which cost me $ 15. Then I get to Hertz and I am told I have to wait another 20 minutes because they have no cars available! WTF is the point of reserving a car to be picked up at a certain time if it’s not going to be there. I am so glad I don’t conduct business like these guys or else I would be out of job! Customer service… where has it gone these days!

As bad as it gets.
Gold club member. Made reservation months ago. Showed up and the car we reserved was not only not there, the car they gave us was under a different name. When expressing our frustration the guy in the lot said, and I quote, «Get to the point». The clerks at the desk genuinely didn’t care.
These people are just awful. AWFUL!
Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague. But if you have to choose, choose the plague.

Hertz as a company is very dishonest and this location wins for the worst. They added an additional charge of $ 450 for an upgrade on a car that I never agreed to. I’ve called and written and even went back to the location but each person gives me the same answer «there’s nothing we can do about it since you signed for it». They have a women working there that was new and completely misinformed–

These guys are scam artists. I rented a car last Tuesday, ⁸⁄₁₈ and for an economical car (Toyota Corolla), for only 2 days and it cost over $ 242! WHAT? What happened to cars being $ 29.95 a day? Plus, they don’t pro-​rate you. They charge you full days so be careful.
AND to give everyone here a heads up, when I drove off the lot, my tank was full. When I came back to return my car, it was still Full (was over the F line) and the employee said that bc I didn’t fill up my tank (I only drove 40 miles), they will charge me an additional $ 13.95 for gas. Why?! The tank was still full! Hertz sucks and when you decide you need to rent a car in Baltimore, you got many other options. I HATE HERTZ. Avoid these LOSERS!!!

In the running for one of the worst Hertz locations ever. Shuttle service from the airport is unreliable with occasional long lines (which, admittedly, is not Hertz’s fault, but think twice before renting a car at all at BWI). However, about half the time I come here, they do not have a car ready for me– once they tried to pawn a subcompact off on me even though I’d rented a fullsize. Staff at return is indifferent and can’t be rushed.

If I could give this a zero then I would. I got the car and it smelled like the previous driver smoked a carton of cigarettes with the windows rolled all the way up. There was a paper that said it was cleaned but there were cigarette ashes in the door handle. Not to mention that it was 90 degrees outside and t smelled horrible to turn on the AC

Have you ever wondered how to feel like God? Like when you see people destroying each other, buying and selling each other, and bringing plague onto the earth? Rent a car from Hertz, because that’s exactly how it made me feel.
If I had a choice to rent a car from this place again or raise the fires of Hades to swallow up this earth, I would choose Hades.
Why you may ask? Because I had a family emergency and I had to keep the car for three extra days, my dad almost died from blood loss. My vehicle went from $ 128 for 4 days to over $ 500 for the extra 3. In their contract they said if you bring it back they can change the amount they charge. Well they did just that.
Their competitors are much better. One of their major competitors kept me at a discounted rate, because I told them I liked the car and wanted to keep it longer. They had no problem with that, they were very enterprising if you catch my drift.
Now to this place, they are great in a bind but watch out if you borrow it longer than they specify on the contract. It’s difficult and almost impossible to extend the reservation, because they then call it a contract. It’s an entirely different number and system they use.
Beware and good luck with this place, they are demonic in the way they rent cars.

In the comments the Hertz representative asked us for more information, we sent that information but yet they have not contacted us, and by our understanding still do not care. Why bother asking us for our information if you are truly not interested in helping?

I wish I could give zero stars. As I stood in a line of 9 people, with one person working the counter, I got to witness complete and utter ineptitude at its best. All of the other car rental counters at BWI were buzzing and humming like well oiled machines. Not only could the two people working not process new customers, but three people in a row who had been served and sent back returned immediately as cars they were given didn’t exist or had major and immediately glaring issues.
Will never use Hertz again.

Had to order a rental. Online was easy-​peasy. You choose what kind of car you want, if you want extra stuff, like insurance, and then book it.
When you get off the plane and need to pick up your car, you need to go downstairs and hop onto the shuttle. Trip takes around 8 to 10 minutes. Once you get off of the shuttle, one side of the building has some of the rental car companies, while the other side has the other ones. You find which rental car company you want to do business with, go up to the counter, give them your name if you already put in a reservation. They ask for your ID, your credit card, ask a few basic questions (i.e., «do you want GPS?», «do you want any extra features?», etc.), have you sign some liability stuff, and then give you your paperwork and estimated costs (especially if you turn in your car late). They’ll tell you to go out the door and go find your car in whatever stall it is in. Once you find the car, keys are already in the ignition. Pop open the trunk, put your stuff in, adjust your car seat, adjust your mirrors, and make sure you have your license on you; they need your license to double-​check a few things when you’re at the gate to exit. If there are any issues with the car (bumps, scratches, etc.), you can write it down on one of the forms they gave you from the counter. You should also tell it to the attendant at the gate.
Once everything checks out with the gate attendant, TURN LEFT. I turned right. I blame it on being tired and not seeing the damn signs. Regardless, if you turn right, YOU’RE HEADING INTO INCOMING TRAFFIC ON BOTH LANES. Ugh.
When you return your car, follow the signs. They’ll be a sign on where you can return your car. At 5:00am, someone was already there. They waved me down into a different line, I opened the windows, turned off the car, left the key in the ignition, had the attendant check everything while I took out my belongings. He finished checking everything, gave me my receipts, and I was done.
For the most part, it’s simple and not too painless. The only unfortunate thing is that I wasn’t sure on HOW to return the car, especially if I came in at 3am. I was never told anything when I left the counter when picking up the car for the first time, and there was nothing in any of the paperwork. Also, nothing online, nothing on the website, nothing on Unilocal (I was disappointed, fellow Unilocal-​ers). Anyways, glad that was over with. Will probably use them again because their rates aren’t bad with the company I work for.

Horrible place. Picked up a car for a work trip and they didn’t do an inspection, just sent us off with, as it turns out, a car with license plates from two different states, one of which was expired. Also the registration in the car was expired. Unbelievable. Luckily we weren’t pulled over, but we had to go on a military base, where the gate guards immediately noticed. When we called Hertz to ask what to do they just told us to remove one of the plates, said «it’s fine,» and refused to bring a new car.
We had to just drive around for the rest of the week with only one plate, which could have resulted in being pulled over. They said we would have to bring it back ourselves to BWI if we wanted a new car, and we were working over an hour away. Also, the drivers side window didn’t work. Awful customer service. No concern for the extremely unprofessional and really quite serious expired plate issue.
