We have just one goal: to make your event special. There’s no such thing as a small detail. Each event has a dedicated manager whose entire responsibility is to attend to your every need. We even have a MSWDMAM form — «Make Sure We Don’t Make Any Mistakes» — to ensure a flawless event. We truly do take your event personally. Martin’s Caterers was founded in 1964 by Marty Resnick. It started as a single location. Marty is fond of telling the story of how he turned to the Small Business Administration for a $ 15,000 loan after he was turned down by the banks. That, together with his own savings, made it possible to open Eudowood Gardens in Towson, Maryland. In 1969 he opened Martin’s West in Baltimore. The company has grown since then, and today we have seven locations and 700 employees. It is still very much a family-​owned business, and that is one of the things that is so special about Martin’s Caterers. Each of our managers has been with us for an average of 15 years. In 1991 Marty’s son Wayne Resnick took over as President. (Marty continues to oversee things as Chairman of the Board.) Wayne’s strong leadership has taken the company to new heights. We’ve never forgotten the reason we’re in business, which is to make each and every event truly special.

An extremely disappointing experience. We recently attended a formal banquet here, and had a very uncomfortable, borderline irritating evening because of the poor service and mediocre (at best) food. To make matters worse, there were several dignitaries present, including two U.S. Senators and at least three members of the U.S. House of Representatives. To begin, we were seated at a round table meant for eight, but was set for ten. There were other tables for eight that had empty seats. So we were overcrowded from the start. The table was preset with coffee carafes, various beverage and wine glasses, and to my disbelief, the desert (a slice of cake), was already on the table. This was at 6:00 p.m. For a dinner that was scheduled to actually be served at 7:30. The worst part was the overcrowded geography of the table. You couldn’t move a thing to use it for fear there was no space to return it. The dinner started with an average, at best, salad, followed by the main course, which was an overcooked steak and unremarkable salmon filet. No choice was given with respect to how you preferred your steak cooked. After finishing, the coffee that had been sitting on table for two hours was tepid. No servers offered refills or were in any way helpful. They only placed a plate in front of you and removed it when you were finished. Very little effort was made to remove empty glasses which were in over-​abundance on our table, making every move throughout the evening uncomfortable. The desert was eaten at least two hours since it had been initially put on the table. I found the entire experience to be sub-​par, and can’t believe they stay in business with this low level of customer service. It seems that they preset the tables for their own convenience, not the diners’, and have a largely untrained staff with respect to service. I hope I never again have any occasion that requires me to eat at Martin’s West.

The venue is lovely and the food was delicious, BUT.. .
We were there for a wedding of around 200 people. My biggest complaint is that the servers were practically pulling our plates or glasses from our hands WHILE we were still eating and drinking. We kept telling them that we were still eating, but as soon as we would face in the opposite direction to talk to another person, they would reach in and try to take the plate. Some of the people at our table started keeping their hands on their plates and glasses when they weren’t actively eating or drinking. It felt like they were rushing us out of there. We were not there past our allotted time frame.

Came here for an event that was here. They had a cheese display which was great. I had a crab cake as an entrée which was also decent, but the veggies on the plate were a bit over done. The venue itself is pretty but a bit outdated. Lots of parking and easy to locate.

Facility is clean and beautiful, although not my taste so to speak. Staff was courteous and very efficient. I could hear another event (prom) which made it hard to hear my own event (awards banquet). The food was so-​so, but I expected it to be.

I came to Martin’s for a wedding this past weekend and it was great. The staff were awesome as well as the food. I would say the only thing that is a negative is you can hear music from other parties. They book multiple events at one time.
All in all, I think I would consider them if I ever had an event.

This is only a review for the venue and food — 4.5 stars! I was here last night for a sorority banquet. My jaw dropped when I saw the venue — it’s absolutely gorgeous, inside and out! The chandeliers, window dressings, flowers, EVERYTHING help to set such a beautiful mood for any event. The Christmas decorations only added to the scenery.
The staff here are so friendly and very professional. We had an open bar and the bartenders were extremely efficient with serving our large party. They were also great with creating «special» drinks whenever we ran out of creative requests.
I loved the food as well — we had everything from steak to santa fe chicken, a pasta bar, candy bar, crab cakes, and red velvet cake. everything was delicious. My only complaint is that they took the plates away way too quickly. I stepped away for less than a minute and when I came back, my drinks and dessert were gone!
All in all, Martin’s Caterers helped to create an absolutely magical night and I would recommend the venue to anyone.

I had a great experience with Martins West. I had the pleasure of working alongside Shira, John and Miss Barbara to help make my friend, Funmi’s wedding day perfect! And it was! Shira remained professional and kind, although Funmi and I sent her numerous emails throughout the process. John was very patient and helpful during the rehearsal and throughout the wedding day. Miss Barbara was also very helpful throughout the wedding day. And the entire staff was extremely professional, well organized and kind.
The wedding guests absolutely loved the venue and there was ample parking!

When it comes to hosting a very special event, like a wedding, this place is truly the best in its categorY. Absolutely beautiful décor, crystal chandeliers and a winding staircase, clean and accomadating ladies rooms (very important!) and the food is outstanding. The most important part is the staff, who were the utmost of professionalism that I have ever seen at an event like this. Just attended my cousin’s wedding, and although I am somewhat anti-​wedding-​reception halls, this one is truly very good. I haven’t attended a wedding here since 1976, when my Aunt married my Uncle. There was a bridal salon upstairs back then, and I think only one ballroom. I remember my young eyes thinking this was really classy, and later, used it as the standard of all wedding thereafter, (to which I was often disappointed). I was very glad to see that Martin’s West hasn’t lost any of its standards or the décor. All of us really enjoyed ourselves, and there were really no complaints at all. Thanks to the Resnick family who run it — my hats are off to you and your staff!

On August 4th, I organized my very first Crab Feast event with Martin’s Caterers at Martin’s West. My planner, Ali S., was very helpful, patient, and understanding. We began planning the event rather close to the event date, but Ali had everything under control.
When we arrived at the Catering Hall, a bit late, we were welcomed with open arms. The layout for food was magnificent, and the servers were excellent. Our event included people from 21 – 70 years of age, and we all enjoyed our time at Martin’s West. After the event, people asked repeatedly if I would repeat the event because the catering hall was more beautiful than they had expected. It was simply gorgeous. If planning a wedding or any other event in the Baltimore area, please look to Martin’s West for the perfect event.

Bob Guccione décor be damned. This is still a pretty satisfactory event space. It’s Doric Order-​cum-​mid-​sixties columns, grandiose faux flora, and gold lamé trimmings were the least of my worries even if flirting on eye candy overload. Graduation parties, prom parties, anniversary parties, retirement parties, business parties, etcetera ad infinitum. I’ve been to them all. Most at Martin’s (West) Caterers.
Last time here the clock was ticking and their staff took a licking making sure they kept the event’s schedule. Rushed, but highly capable. Professional if not always having the time to be overly amiable. No problems fitting all 300 of us in the space rented, but elbow room at tables was at a premium and made eating a tad tricky. Vittles served used to be worse back in the day, but have picked up for the relative better: crab cakes fairly firm, but denser on mayonnaise than craved. Chicken breasts fine despite quaggy stuffing. Chocolate cake drizzled with raspberry sauce a winner. Nothing gourmet, but, after all, this ain’t Woodberry Kitchen.
Total joint’s less than a 4, but rides a skosh more than 3 based on the staff’s ability to juggle with grace under pressure. I’ve only been an attendee at events and haven’t dealt with the business of actual party planning here.
By the way, stop fretting, y’all. The Guccione vibe doesn’t extend to their spacious slightly aged event rooms. Just on the façade. And just in the lobby. Also in the lavatories. I’m over it.
