Meh. I’ve experienced better, here, before the new owners took over. They got rid of the staff that made delicious pizza pie and now you have to wait for the new staff to learn how to cook, on the job and at your expense. I had to send back a under-cooked pizza and the cook comes out with a new pie and asks if I want it this dark. What?! Da fuq you mean«this dark»?! Man I want it cooked through, I don’t want pizza tar tar. Do you even like pizza!!! Have you ever eaten pizza?! Why are you asking me what temperature I want my pizza cooked?! Moving forward you should expect EVERYONE wants their pizza cooked to completion unless otherwise noted. Long story short, I had to take the pie home and finish cooking it. Totally annoyed, and honestly the integrity of the food is lost. This used to be my spot and I want to like it, but I don’t have the time or patience to wait for the new crew to catch up. Damnit, now I have to find a new spot.

I decided to update my review as I have tried this place several more times and haven’t had anything really bad to say. There are a wide variety of pizzas and they aren’t too shabby. This place is a typical college hangout so if you are looking for something quick and cheap this is the place. The pizza crust is thin and can get tough to eat if you let it cool. During the week, there are specials of the day so keep an eye out for that if you are eating on a budget.

Maxie’s is an occasional takeout stop of ours, and the pizza is decent but not our favorite around(Pasta Mista). The slices with bruschetta topping are definitely worth an occasional stop, though — great tomato flavor and salsa tanginess. We’ve tried getting a whole pie once for a group, but the crust tasted a lot better on slices that had been cooked and then reheated, and the whole pie was a little too soggy in the middle. We still think it was more fun of a place as XandO’s, but it is fun talking about old nights eating s’mores there over a few slices of quick pizza.

This is a ver casual joint, definitively a student buck saver. Good pizza(NY style) and others also, good prices. What else can you ask for :) I’ve tried the cheese pizza, the broccoli pizza and the Mac and cheese pizza, never disappointed and always in my way to keep me fed and happy. Don’t expect waiters or fancy silverware. This is PIZZA.

Good food, Terrible service. I was told to wait 5 minutes to make my order while the Chinese server counted his tips in front of me. The Chinese server is specifically very rude. You can tell he does not want to be there. When asked if they could give me a call on my cell once the food was ready, he refused saying it’s not his problem because he’s leaving in 30 minutes. By the time I came back in 45 minutes, my food had been ready and was cold. On top of that, he was still there. Another instance. I waited for my food for 45 minutes. I went to check up on it and they had forgotten to even put the order in. The worst part of this was when they were able to make my pasta dish is less than 5 minutes opposed to the countless times I’ve ordered that same dish and have waited 30 – 50 minutes, sometimes with no other customers. They do have good food, most of the time. Their service, however, is probably the worst I’ve ever experienced.

Daily specials every day make it easy dining on the wallet. They offer a variety of specialty pizzas by the(large) slice, and a lot of different beers too. It’s noisy inside, but sitting outside is nice.

I like the food and place. Relaxing. This place is more on the comfortable side if you are just looking to kick back and chill.

I had their greek pizza and the salsa pizza, I think that’s what it’s called, the one that has a lot of lettuce on it. They were both good. They have many other types of pizzas as well. I would surely go back to this place to try something different. I liked the old school diner feel with the decorations. Also enjoyed the game playing on TV. Came back for a slice of pizza and it was great with a cold Arnold Palmer. They also have pretty good strombolis and calzones. The latter was baked fresh and piping hot. The server, the Chinese/Asian looking guy, was super friendly and carried a good conversation. Also gave good pointers for food and drinks. Turns out he also belongs to my alma mater. Small world! Great service, very professional and helpful! Best thing I like about this place is that I can eat in, enjoy my drink, and hang around and watch TV as long as I please without any judgement or getting rushed by the staff. Feel right at home!

Love this place because they have drink & food specials every day. Bartenders don’t last long here & of course some are better than others. Cheesesteaks are great, wings are too. Pizza is ok. A great place if you want cheap drinks & cheap eats.

Pizza is great. Had a slice of bacon chicken ranch and some garlic knots. Kind of reminds of an old school pizzeria when i was young. Overall the food is great and fresh. And i recommend it!

I just went here yesterday for the first time and really loved it on a recommendation from a friend. It truly is New York City style pizza flat fresh and delicious I got the bruschetta slice and it had chunks of fresh tomatoes basil extra-virgin olive oil and garlic. Truly delicious I can’t wait to go back the owner was on hand and is very hands on these days the place was very clean. They have many craft beers by the bottle for sale and $ 10 wines by the bottle too.

Who Else Is Open For Food Till 2AM in North Charles Village? I’ve read some pretty harsh reviews here on Unilocal.I’ve ate here a 100 times over the past 10 years and I have never seen what other viewers have claimed to have seen. I don’t get it! I’m a very observant person and I’m also very fussy. Service is quick. The help is never rude. The food is decent for the price. You get fed and you don’t ripped off! What more do you want from a restaurant that caters to College students? Give me a break! Some of the reviewers sound like spoiled brats! If you want perfection eat at a 5-star restaurant!

Whoa, whoa, whoa… This place! Wow! They have pizza with all manner of things on it. It’s quite awesome. Barbecue chicken? Sure. Honey mustard with chicken and bacon? Yep. Margarita pizza? Yeah — with an entire large, diced tomato on each slice. Eggplant parm? Yep. Meats? Yeah. Veggies? Uh-huh. Crab? Of course, it’s Baltimore. They also have a large beer selection, including plenty of microbrews and some locals! Oh, and when I was there, they were doing a 2-slices-for-$ 5 thing. My girlfriend and I ate for $ 13 and we were stuffed. That included drinks. We had to wait 7 hours to even attempt to eat dinner. This place is worth the travel and the money(money? what money?! they are practically giving it away!).

Anyone who says the pizza is «amazing» does not come from the New York area. The pizza is good and would be below average where I’m from, but still it’s good. The non pizza food is not bad, but nothing to write home about. The place is clean. They have a bar in the basement that pretty much should have a max age of 22. The bathroom is located God knows where. Maxie’s is never my first choice, but it is very convenient.

The two somewhat recent reviews below about roaches made me a bit apprehensive, but this review is proof that I made it out alive without contracting some kind of disease or food poisoning. I didn’t see any critters during my visit. The best part about Maxie’s? The outside seating that gives you a nice, direct view of the Hopkins Homewood campus. The inside of the place really leaves much to be desired. The front desk area feels cramped – they were changing over the setup of the store so all menus were removed, and where we walked in there was a warm, yellow-painted seating area. That whole area was unseasonably humid. The food is «alright» and I think 3 stars is very indicative. For what it purports to be – a casual pizza bar in a college town – it fits the bill. There’s plenty of specialty pizzas(I got the BBQ chicken and Greek pizzas, both were thin crusted and loaded with ingredients) and my friend ordered an italian sub which came with what looked like boardwalk fries. The bread looked really generic but the sub itself tasted fine. You have to eat the pizza quickly because I took my time(about 1 – 1.5 hrs) and it became tougher to bite off. Probably my fault though. I’m a little circumspect about coming again due to the reports about roaches. Until they renovate and start re-earning the respect they got in past reviews, it might be more like a last-minute resort if I’m ever starving around the Homewood campus and desperately need pizza.

Good place to chow down, if you’re a ROACH. Seriously. A group of us went in for pizza. They have a window with about a dozen previously cooked pizzas for sale by the slice. No telling how long they’ve been sitting there. Anyway, as we were waiting in line, we saw two roaches crawling on the margherita pizza in the window. It made me sick to my stomach and we left.

Maxie’s opened up I believe my junior year of college and they had some initial issues because prices were so damn high. Now three years removed I am happy to see they have turned things around and they appear to be getting sufficient business. There also seems to be a large weekend nightlife crowd of Hopkins students in the basement. The pizza is pretty good. It’s thin crust which gives it a little bit more of an authentic Italian feel. If you’re paying $ 2.50 per slice for plain cheese, you don’t want to be thinking you could get this same pizza at Domino’s for a fraction of the cost. Service has never been amazing but the cashier did throw in a free side of ranch even after I offered to pay for it so I’m satisfied.

I actually really really like the pizza here! It’s close to Hopkins and it’s always a great place to go when you’re craving some pizza. My favorites are the bruschetta and the margherita, but be ready for a garlic BOMB! The crust is crunchy and just«bready» enough, and the slices are pretty HUGE! You can also customize your own pizza but it’s so much easier to just pick one already made. They have some other great kinds like chicken parm, eggplant parm, a white pizza, a white primavera pizza, and CALZONES! Which I must try one of these days… They always stick the pizza in the oven right after you order it just to re-melt the cheese and make it taste like it’s fresh out of the oven, which i think is a nice touch. Lastly, the garlic knots are amazing. 25 cents/garlic knot… with a price like that it’s so easy to eat too many!

The place is really cute and clean with an awesome variety of sliced pizza and beer. This place has vegetarian and vegan pizza slices which is quite rare. The cashier was nice and knowledgeable. I ordered a white pizza that had spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, and feta. It was quite tasty, but it wasn’t heated long enough. I also ordered fries(I was feeling greedy). I am not a fan of the fries. They are just basic extra crunchy fries. The sad part was the fact that I spent $ 10 on a pizza slice, soda, and fries. Since I am always at Hopkins, this will be my go-to spot just minus the fries.
