Metta Integrative Wellness Center

My last review was for a massage therapist who has since left, but I’ve been coming to Metta literally every 2 weeks for the past year or more for Lauren, an amazing acupuncturist. She’s patient and understanding and I’ve had amazing results with her regarding lessening my anxiety. I also always love when a random chance headache or my period aligns with a visit because I know I’ll immediately feel better after a session.
I can’t see myself stopping my treatments as long as I live in the area!

After just receiving a treatment at the Metta location at Baltimore Yoga Village, I just couldn’t help myself and had to immediately write a review to share my enthusiasm!
To be completely transparent, I have to share that I was employed at Metta on The Avenue in the past, but I have learned that in my years of giving and receiving bodywork to really know a good thing when I see/​feel it! And WOW! What a natural combination Metta at Baltimore Yoga Village is!
To start off, the good vibes are there right when you walk in… Amazing décor, really cool plant wall, lots of beautiful natural light, the treatment rooms are the perfect, womb like sacred space you would want to really let go and receive in… it all just creates a super serene place to relax and drink tea as you wait to go into your bodywork session or yoga class.
This was my day off so I had booked a massage for after my 90 minute yoga class with Maura Roth-​Gromley. The class is a perfect combination of breath work, flow, challenging core and a nice, long held asana practice. I love the music Maura incorporates into her classes and how she has us all set up our mats in a circle with a beautiful alter in the middle.
All blissed out and SO open after class, I made my way over to the relaxation area by the treatment rooms. I really felt heard as I talked to my body worker, Nyesha about my body. On the table she really listened to my body, I was in and out of it in massage bliss, but how could I not have been, as she used aromatherapy, hot stones and towels on all my tight spots, deep tissue work, and cupping to melt away all the stress I was holding in my body. She was so intuitive, I could really feel her dialing into my needs in the moment.
The whole package of yoga and massage is really a gift to the body. What a truly magical experience to have both in the same place, in an incredible atmosphere. If you can’t tell from my review I am glowing, and I just can’t recommend this magical place enough.

Metta is a cozy little studio tucked up in the ally past «3 clothing» near a cross fit center. When I walked in the atmosphere was very unique, inviting and relaxing. Lainey was thorough, informative and professional. My 90 minute massage included hot stones, deep tissue, aroma therapy and pressure point work. I think she even did a little chakra and reiki. Lainey educated me about my body and what I would need in addition to massage to pin point muscle tension challenges. She made wonderful suggestions to help strengthen these muscles as well. I am a hairstylist and on my feet constantly so this was very helpful. She has wonderful energy and gave an amazing experience! I highly recommend! I will 100 percent be going back to see her.

My fiancé surprised me with a massage with Jess for my birthday this past weekend. It was the best massage of my life. Jess is an absolute goddess and a true healer. She intuitively and magically finds your painful spots and pours her energy into them.
The facility itself was very tranquil and clean I love the womb-​like sound of the white noise machine as soon as you enter the door. The waiting area is relaxing and comfortable.
Proof of how blissed out I was: The mayor’s Christmas parade, complete with marching bands and drum lines, was going on right outside the window and I was able to completely tune them out and float away into la la land.
I can’t wait to go back again and again. It was my best birthday ever!

I really like the location, love the avenue, the walkability.
Walking inside is calming in itself: a beautiful waiting area with the necessary provisions and clinically clean but with a warm and eclectic décor and a staircase (which leads to the treatment rooms) that makes it feel like a home.
But I probably wouldn’t take the time to review those two things alone. The care I’ve had at Metta has been wonderful.
I’ve seen physical therapist Laura Keyser* twice now and always get such personalized, thorough care from her. Hers is the kind of knowledge that works on the spot, using her wide expertise to quickly identify movements, stretches, various approaches to tend to the problem at hand. For me it was neck tension. I believe you can tell a lot about the kind of care you’ll get by the diagnostic process. Laura listened, observed, asked questions and had me demonstrate various specific motions. I left with homework and a deeper understanding of the network of my body, so that I not only felt better immediately but had the tools to keep taking care of myself. An important note: Laura is small but strong! She opted to use massage for part of my treatment and I was very content with the pressure (and believe she could’ve applied more pressure if I wanted).
*Full disclosure: I came to Metta because of Laura, who is a long time friend of mine.
In addition to physical therapy, I was recommended to see Jeremy Braverman for massage. One customer service note: Jeremy’s schedule books up fast, so I got myself an appointment weeks in advance … only to have a conflict come up the week before. I contacted him through the website and he quickly replied in email and a phone call with two possible remedies. He ended up coming in on a Wednesday to see me (he’s usually there only Fridays and Saturdays).
Now on to the treatment. «Excellent» is the word. It seemed ill-​timed that I had a cold when I visited. Being also an acupuncturist, Jeremy gave me the option of having some needles applied to help with congestion. I was quite surprised at how well they worked (it was day 3 of a cold and I didn’t look forward to being horizontal). I was not in any sinus discomfort — for the treatment OR for the rest of the day! Like my treatment with Laura, I learned a lot in my treatment with Jeremy. My favorite kind of learning: about myself. His insights into possible causes for tension were deep and emotional. He definitely worked my body hard (which I welcome) but also gave me some nuggets to think about and helpful recommendations for improving my health all around.
I’m glad to see Metta thriving because I want to be able to visit for a long time to come.

Sarah Strahorn was amazing; I am a yoga teacher who has been using massage to balance me for many years.
She is precise, deep, and puts you at ease.
If she does any trigger point on you, you’ll be able to tell she is a well-​practiced, effective professional. I’m already saving money so I can go back. This is the kind of massage that over time I know will help me avoid disabling neck pain. Thank you Sarah. You are awesome.

I received my first-​ever Thai massage from Sarah. As a veteran of Swedish and deep tissue massage and a yoga practitioner, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The sensation of being deeply stretched without making any effort was a revelation. Sarah was very precise and receptive. She checked in with me regularly about the pressure and effectiveness while I also got to relax. I have to say: I have had many massages. Most of them have been relaxing. None have been as effective at releasing my constantly near-​frozen trapezoids and none have been this deep without aggravating an ongoing shoulder injury. I felt very, very good the rest of the evening. If you are looking to simply bliss out, Thai massage may not be your jam, but if you want to relax and get some lasting physical work done, I recommend Sarah without reservation. The space at Metta is a bonus. It has a spiritual vibe without feeling like you’ve happened upon Stevie Nicks’ living room circa 1975.

I have been going to Metta for massage and acupuncture for a several years now and will continue to do so! Everyone I’ve seen there has been very professional, caring and nice. They’ve listened to my health issues and I always leave feeling a million times better. Nikki and Jess are very good massage therapist. I would definitely recommend one of them!

I had a 90-​min introductory service with Karen today. And the massage was only ok. Customer was great. It was a clean and relaxing environment. I would go again but I’m still in search of a go to spa.

My massage therapist, Nikki, works out of this location Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have always met very pleasant people and the location itself offers so much more than just massage. It’s like a wellness package. About whatever you’re looking for to make you have the feel goods.
Prices are totally reasonable and it’s not far from great places to eat before or after. Making an appointment is easy and they tend to run on time. Check them out!

One of my favorite massage spots in Baltimore thus far! Visited Cara for a 90-​minute intro integrative therapeutic massage to prep for a big marathon and left feeling super-​refreshed and ready to run! Cara was super-​professional and made sure to focus on the priority spots we discussed beforehand. Scheduling online was super easy and the space itself is definitely very comfortable and actually has character (unlike many of the other massage spots run out of offices, etc.) — it’s run out of a big rowhouse in Hampden.
Massages in B’more tend to be pretty expensive, but the $ 70 intro price for the 90-​minute really is a great value. If only they’d offer something similar to returning customers as well…

Sadly, Metta got mixed reviews on Unilocal and I was really apprehensive about going there. I couldn’t find a lot of reviews on the massage therapists that were available for the 90 minute 1^st timer’s deep tissue massage… but for $ 70, I was willing to give it a whirl.
I had been having some pretty extreme pain from old injuries exacerbated by work/​overuse injuries that were new and I knew that just going one time was not going to solve the issue, that I needed to commit to going regularly, drinking enough water, watching my intake of inflammatory foods… and perhaps even a combo of massage and acupuncture.
I had no problem making my intro appointment with Karen — I liked her combination of specialties and felt confident she’d be well versed in a variety of technics to tackle my pain issues. I love how cozy, colorful, and homey the reception area is and Karen’s professionalism and demeanor immediately evaporated any apprehension I may have had. The room was warm and relaxing, the music perfect, and Karen spent enough time identifying my issues and then getting my feedback on pressure and spots once the massage commenced. I’ve been disappointed with other therapists that can’t quite get the pressure right even with feedback — NOT THE CASE with Karen, she dialed it in right away and was able to incorporate a lot of different techniques — hot stones, thai, and deep tissue on my trouble spots.
I felt like I was totally in loving hands and was so incredibly appreciative for this experience that I will definitely be returning regularly and feel that Metta is a wonderful, colorful, warm and unique place for those who are seeking wellness and wholeness from the inside out.

I had a massage with Nikki last week (previously had gone to see Eric, but he is not with the practice anymore) and it was amazing. Metta emailed me about a deal $ 70 for 90 minutes and I was happy to take them up on it. The studio is a bit more swanky since I was last there, with plusher rooms and decorations. I had a migraine for 4 days and Nikki took the time to personalize the entire massage around that problem. She had a firm touch and afterwards I felt great. No complaints at all and I’m going to buy my husband a massage here for his birthday. It’s really easy to book online. I personally have never had a problem reaching Metta, but I can see how maybe phone calls arn’t returned since there isn’t a front desk here– just the practitioners themselves staffing the studio inbetween massages.
Can’t wait to go back myself!

I have been really looking forward to checking Metta out. Unfortunately, they haven’t returned my voicemails, are never present to answer the phone, and directs you to their website. Isn’t it business 101 to return potential client calls?

I was going to try this place but had the therapist cancelled 30 minutes before my appointment :-(
I am now stuck with neck pain for the holidays. Great…
On the positive side, at least they called me to tell me that it was cancelled.

Laura is the best massage therapist I’ve ever worked with. I’ve done both Thai and deep tissue massages with her and it’s worth every penny. She incorporates some elements of Thai massage into the deep tissue which is very helpful for me because I tense up easily and I need the stretches along with the typical massage features. Laura is great at accomodating the client’s needs and priorities and I always walk out of there feeling lighter.

I would recommed Eric to anyone who needs a super awesome massage. I carry tons of stress and always find it hard to find a massage therapist who does a good deep tissue massage. Eric does an amazing job and I always leave feeling like a new person!

I love Metta! The practitioners are all very skilled in their fields and present themselves with a very warm and inviting presence. The environment of Metta is very calming and soothing and has a way of making me feel at peace from the moment I walk in the door.
