Micro Center

Updated to El Capitan on my MacBook and could not print on my existing printer anymore so I went in to purchase a new printer. Jeff started with the $ 50.00 printer on sale. That one meet our needs and as we thought to upgrade there was only information given to us and no pressure to buy the next step up. Purchased the printer, photo paper and a couple of small items. Out the door for less then $ 80.00. Every now and then you make a purchase and feel good about it. This was one of those times.

Had a tough week and a half here trying to get my desktop repaired but after I got to speak with two managers and some awesome people BYO department, I walked out feeling a huge weight off my chest. Bravo!

When it comes to price matching, save yourself the time and humiliation. The Towson store has a manager named, Matt that made every excuse imaginable about why he was not going to price match from reputable online stores. Matt pretends to want to help but ultimately he will not price match whatsoever. I had a chance to read reviews and discovered this seems to be a common theme with Micro Center. If several people touched on this issue in their review, imagine how many more feel this way and don’t bother to write reviews. Another concern with this store is a few of the leadership staff is just down right nasty and arrogant. They put on a façade to give the illusion that they care but it’s pretty obvious that they’re just not sincere. I also notice James has replied to many reviews. Don’t bother replying to my review. Save your energy to coach Matt and other leadership staff on how not to be so transparent when they waste customers time making excuses about why they can’t price match. James teach your staff how to just get straight to the point and tell customers you don’t price match, it’s just a marketing mind game. Please teach your staff to be kind and convincing when it comes to guest interactions!

I still absolutely love visiting here however on my last visit the cashier, Mercedes, was reaching over me to hit something on the credit card swiper and she just kept on telling me it was because I was a member. I had no idea what she was pressing or choosing so I told her to stop and let me decide. I told her that she was rude and pushy and I wanted to see what she was hitting on my behalf. She caught a major attitude, gave me the hand gesture and said I am now gonna push you off my register and dropped my receipt on the ground. As she stormed away I told her to call the manager and she ran into a backroom as I waited. She never called the manager and I had to ask someone else to call him.
I spoke with the manager and told him about my experience, he didn’t seem phased and handed me his business card and told me to email him my experience in detail. I may shop online next time if this rude behavior keeps up.

Microcenter – you’re by far the best place to buy computer hardware and equipment, but please ditch the pushy sales model, especially when it comes to buying a new computer. This day in age, almost everyone knows that they don’t need to spend $ 100+ for ‘antiviral software’ for a new computer and/​or no one needs to spend 50% or more of the purchase price to buy a product replacement plan. For example, we only needed a crappy little notebook to do email/​web browsing for $ 299, but the pushy sales guy wanted us to buy $ 100+ in antiviral packages and $ 150 replacement plan. Get out of here with that. Google scans your email for potential malicious content and firefox/​chrome can alert you to potential suspiciuos sites. There are literally hundreds and thousands of sites and software to try for antiviral scanners, and microsoft security essentials is free. Knock off the pushy sales crap please.

Unfortunately, I chose them over Best Buy to fix my laptop. Big mistake. First, it took 3 weeks to perform the repair which was just replacing the dc jack. Then, the day I get my laptop back, I bring it home and notice crackling in my left speaker which is the same side of the dc port. The reason I didn’t attempt to fix the jack myself is because I did not want to risk damaging the speakers. I immediately notified my technician the same day I got the laptop back and took it back to them the next day. So then, they have it another 3 days only for the tech to say that (1) I was right, my speaker is damaged (2) the speakers only come in pairs so you cannot replace just one and (3) it’s gonna be $ 57.99 (I had already paid over $ 200 at this point). So I kindly remind the tech that my speakers worked perfectly before bringing them my laptop in the first place and all he can say is «well, sometimes, parts just go bad». Whatever, you broke it and did not want to admit it or fix the issue. So I just told them to have my laptop ready to pick up that day because I did not want them to touch another thing. I really used to like Micro Center but now I will never shop there or use their services again.

Terrible customer service today. Useless laptop «salesmen.» I went in today with the intention of buying a laptop. The four employees in the laptop area were busy chatting. I asked one about the Toshibas; «They’re over there,» was all the assistance I got. Micro Center helped me decide to buy online, from somebody else.

Extreme issues price matching here. Took over 45min to price match a USB CABLE.
The service desk kept saying it was not the same one. When in fact it was. They just did not want to match the price.
Also the employee there was low class. I asked what’s the problem. Then she said I don’t know. I just page the mangers. And yes she said mangers not MANAGERS.
The mgr comes over and says other stuff like then we have to include shipping even tho WALMART is free and stuff.
I just gave up and said whatever and left.

I love this place. All the employees are helpful without being overbearing and incredibly knowledgeable without being condescending.
When I went there yesterday to buy my first tablet, an employee named Michael S answered all my questions and taught me some cool stuff I wasn’t expecting to learn, too! He even stopped me as I went to check out to make sure the case I picked would fit –it didn’t! Saved me time, money and hassle.
I’ve had all kinds of electronics fixed at their help desk here. The prices are very good, and they often have sales on things I actually want. The best!

Prices that are [generally] well above what you’d find online (NewEgg, Amazon, etc.), knowledge from store associates that could be replaced with a little Google’ing or forum browsing, and cashiers that are ignorant.
Oh, and the sales associates and cashiers push for more accessories and service plans is downright frustrating. Their tactics are bordering on thievery, too — claiming certain things wouldn’t be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty so that’s where the Micro Center warranty would be of value. Uh, huh, yeah.
For some reason, Micro Center has an interesting business model.

Being a gamer and having been out of computer-​building for quite some time, I was pretty nervous in getting the right upgrades.
I came here as referred by a co-​worker, and the staff was VERY helpful. I am almost positive that the one who helped me was named Will. He was very knowledgeable, and helped direct me to items that were within my budget, answering any questions and addressing any concerns I had. I even came back shortly after to get one more item, and he immediately came to my attention.
Awesome staff, great deals, and excellent service. I feel pretty lucky being within a mile of this place!

Always has that tech thing that you need but… your going to pay for it! Staff is VERY knowledgeable and helpful.

I have tried to unsubscribe to microcenters emails on more than one occasion. Yet my inbox is stuffed full with emails from them. This has turned me off from shopping at this store. Ps. The amount of questions you have to answer to unsubscribe is ridiculous. NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR EMAIL!

Disclaimer: As a brand I would give Micro center 5 stars: large component computer part inventory /​pricing is more competitive than newegg /​sells all electronics (excluding appliances here). The review below reflects my recent experience.
I really want to love the Towson Micro center, but have had several questionable experiences at this location. Microcenter has everything I ever wanted: SATA Cables, SSD Drives, Graphics cards, and what’s that… even a Flux capacitor? The only thing missing — hospitality.
I ran into an issue during my last visit and was held up an additional 25 minutes due to an error by a representative. In some way restricting access to specific items by requiring a floor-​associate to retrieve the item from a back room is smart and cuts down on potential loss, but when the employee in the back fails to pull the wrong item that is then sold to a customer (this is what happened to me), results in someone waiting while the representative tracks down the right item and then is brought to the other side of the entire store to be exchanged. As I stood around waiting, I was forcefully placed in the hands of the «operations manager» to dealt with the issue.
In a nonchalant manner she assumed responsibility for the issue, but that’s when the waiting started. For over 10 minutes I stood in front of her, while she attempted to transfer a call — instead of putting me with someone to remedy an issue that was currently in front of her — she opted to make me stand there and watch her embarrassingly fumble around the complicated settings within a V-​tech cordless phone. Now I normally wouldn’t care that much about standing around, but when the error is done on behalf of her staff, I expect a certain level of professionalism from the operations manager during this type of scenario. I guess quality /​customer service satisfaction /​client retention maybe not be a quantifiable matrix within her department (highly unlikely in retail) and would explain her attitude towards resolving my issue. What makes this issue more frustrating is that I have no control, I cannot simply walk and grab the right item and simply exchange the wrong item.
15 minutes later I was finally handed the item the manager had a death grip on (mind you the item I had paid for was slightly less than the one I wanted) and told to wait in a queue before I can have it exchanged. This is the whole reason I was paired with her from the start right? She should have simply went to a terminal and simply exchanged my item — nope not that simple. 10 minutes later, after the two employees behind the counter individually assisted each person one at a time, I am left to fully explain what occurred and what I needed to have done — thats just simply poor customer service on her part — just triage me off and make the experience simple for the customer.
Frustratingly, I left only to return about 2 weeks later with a bad GPU — these things happen, but that experience was less than uplifting — so I returned my purchase fully and took my business elsewhere. I would gladly recommend Micro Center to anyone looking to buy /​build /​or fix their home PC /​MAC /​or even Linux boxes.
3 stars for this location only (Bethesda is better IMO)! 5 stars as a brand option!

A lot better then best buy for experienced tech people. Come here if you are building a computer. Great selection and knowledgeable staff. Clean location with enough stuff to keep you busy for a while if you are browsing

Great prices but beware the Thursday night line up. There are 15 of us in line and only one register open. 3 folks are working the internet pickup line.

My son wanted to build a PC from scratch. This was definitely the place to go.
They were running some great specials on mother boards, processors and memory.
Our consultant Will was extremely helpful.
This is definitely a paradise for the build your own computer person.

Good store. Like it much better than Best Buy.
Hard to find a clerk sometimes.
They should have more sales.

This is the Walmart of Computerland… if you can’t find it here, then you will have to special order it and they can even do that for you! Microcenter is a computer geek’s paradise. You can buy a computer out of the box or build it from scratch here. You can buy all the tools and parts necessary to do all kinds of computer surgery. And if you don’t know how, you can buy books to make you smart so you CAN KNOW how! And if you need help, they have smarter computer geek-​type sales force to help out!
Plus you can find other electronics too… like Big Screens, cameras, tablets also!
What a great addition to the Baltimore area!

This is seriously the best place to find parts or accessories for your computer. The staff is helpful here though, the Rockville location seems to be even more accomadating
