The Sound Garden

Amazing! I love The Soundgarden. It’s been a Baltimore institution for decades. The staff are not at all what you might expect in record stores (i.e. Jack Black’s character in ‘High Fidelity’). The Soundgarden staff are chill as can be, super helpful, and know their stuff. It should go without saying that the selection of vinyl, dvd, cd, merch, books, and oddities is amazing. The recent expansion of the vinyl section is proof that this independent record store is alive and well. AND, the parking is wonderful. Prepare to go in for one record and leave with four. Funny how that happens. Also, if you’re going to go, please show support year around and not only on record store day. Besides, the lines on rsd are the worst. Ok, bye.

I love this place. It’s so cool to shop at a place that has vintage vinyl. Plus i love that you can get used CDs etc for really cheap. We just refurbished our old turntable so I can’t wait to get some more classic albums. My son turned me on to this place and now everytime he comes to town it’s one of our «must go to» places.

This is one of the coolest stores in the Baltimore area. They have a great selection of extreme metal and ambient electronic albums. i would highly recommend for true metal fans

The Sound Garden is a great vinyl shop, but it also has a great offering of DVDs. DVDs are my thing more than vinyl. So while my boyfriend flips through stacks upon stacks of vinyl, I go through shelves of used DVDs. They have a wide assortment of genres. The discs are also well priced (at least the used ones).
In terms of vinyl offerings, it has more new vinyl in stock. I’d recommend going here if you want new vinyl, but perhaps a different vinyl shop in the area if you are looking for older and rarer selections.

Got to see Third Eye Blind (they were 3 hours late, but that isn’t on Sound Garden) play at their album release. They have a great selection of records for music snobs as well — I got a few great Christmas gifts here.

I’ve been coming here forever, there is always something fun to look at from cds to dvds to records. I like their selection of skickers, incense and other goodies too! The customer service is always friendly and knowledgable. I like browsing since everything is so organized.

I visited The Sound Garden to check out the used vinyl. They had many common LPs at fair prices, but not much beyond that. I did get three great finds in the $ 1 records under the main racks. There’s a step ladder you can use to sit on while going through them.
A nitpick: their record bags are too thin; the handle tore open on mine after a few hours.

The sound garden was a great walk back in time. They had 45’s (not the ammunition… the records!!). There are thousands of vinyl albums from 60 years ago to present. They also have 8tacks and casette tapes! Everything is well labeled and seemed to be in order. There is a section of the store for sillier things like socks, and funny as hell fridge magnets. Also oddball stuff that will bring back memories. Kind of like a «as seen on TV» commercial from the 70’s. Love the unique feel.

It’s so exciting to have a local shop that has everything that I’m looking for. From movies to music, they definitely have the best variety around. Having both bought and sold with them, I am always satisfied with the service.

I’m in love with this shop. Fantastic service and the comfortable atmosphere give you a taste of the Baltimore feel. They have fantastic prices and a HUGE variety of artists and bands, ranging from new hits, and radio pop, to oldies and underground groups you’ve probably never heard of. If you’re ever in the area I suggest you stop in!

This place is the best for all music, vinyl, Cd, Dvd, posters, vintage etc. even collector memorabilia now like horror figures and the rest. I wish they did have a buyers card or do you lol. I guve it an 9 ¾ /​/​/​/​10 .:-) :-) :-) :-)

This place is awesome. It’s everything you’d want in a record store! Goofy stickers and toys, novelty items no one ever needs, and an amazing selection of CDs and Vinyl. I was looking for a few Def Leppard CD’s that are rare to see nowa days; I checked the new and used CD’s and came up dry. No biggie I mean these guys can’t hold every bands’ album made over 30 years ago!
I went to the front desk and asked the employee if they knew where I could get the albums from. He said he’d order both for me and have them in by next week! He even told me to just pay him once they arrive. I was amazed at the awesome customer service and ability to find these albums so fast. I’ll not only come back to buy these CDs; I’ll be back for more music anytime I’m looking for some funky old tunes!

Awesome record shop in Fell’s Point. Excellent music and dvd selection and they have a decent amount of metal cds. They also have really cool pictures on the walls from when celebrities stopped in and got their pictures with the owners and staff. I dig the atmosphere and one year I was in Baltimore I picked up a season of Dexter, brand new, for super cheap. it’s an excellent place to check out when in the area and you are looking for a movie, record, or cd. They have a policy where if you have a large back they will ask to keep it behind the counter to prevent shop lifting but they are always very respectful regarding your privacy and are never rude when I’ve had to check a backpack. I don’t think I’ve had one year that I’ve been in town for Maryland Deathfest that I haven’t stopped in.

Cool place to go and kill some time, browsing the isles! Never know what you might find!

Bought myself two Arctic Monkeys old CDs here. I love Alex Turner but never owned any CDs from them.

I have been The Sound Garden countless times and just about every time it is to dig through the «used» vinyl and occasionally pick up something new.
The PRO’s
–the best selection of new vinyl and reissues and reasonable prices
–very flexible hours
–private lot for customers on the side of the store
–every once in a while a diamond in the rough found in the used vinyl budget bins
The CON’s
–usually the top-​shelf used vinyl is crap… borderline garage sale/​thrift store stuff
–used new arrivals usually always have new/​reissues mixed in
–budget bins are usually stocked with way too much filler, much of which can either be given away or tossed in the trash (extremely banged up records, covers and the kind stuff your great great grandfather played)
–CD overload (maybe they still sell a lot of them)
–not all, but many pretentious employees who walk around like they are about perform life saving open-​heart surgery
Overall The Sound Garden is a 3 star music store on a good day. I’ve come across a few really good finds over the years, but it is not even close to being the best music shop in Baltimore… especially for those who buy vinyl. It is a more grand scale version of Record & Tape Traders.
If you’re looking for vinyl it is worth a look, but there better shops in the area such as Celebrated Summer (Hampden) and El Suprimo (Fells Point) and Normal Books & Records (Abell)

A PA or Walky-​Talky would totally ruin that classic form of comunication
Used CD (record) stores are probably my favorite concept. Sure, I’d prefer to buy my music from the band themselves (at shows etc) — but as I’ve gotten older I go out to live music less and less. Sure, there is the moral conundrum of not supporting your favorite musicians by buying there CDs new, but lets be honest, to buy a new CD is way over-​priced –especially for bands that are no longer together and released the album 10 years ago. And, as far as digital downloads go — I do still like to have a physical copy in case my medium of choice goes bankrupt.
This is a store that blasts random music, doesn’t discourage browsing, and has a great collection of music. The solid grunge, no frills feel to the place lets you know your liable to find just about anything here. You might not save much money looking for the newest or most popular songs, but if you get a hankering for that one off CD you remember from a few years back but never bought, you might find it for under 10 bucks here.

The Sound Garden is a pretty cool record store. A few years back it used to be mostly CDs with some vinyl, but as the trends change, the vinyl section is getting bigger and bigger, which is nice. Prices are higher for the new records but I thought the used records were reasonable.
Definitely worth stopping in if you’re strolling around Fell’s Point for the day. Bonus, they have parking.

One of the last of a dying breed — an actual RECORD STORE. This is one of the greats and the fact that they remain open is a testament to their excellent customer service.
While I don’t buy CD/​DVDs anymore it’s still a great spot to check out. There are lots of other interesting books, posters, gifts etc. and why they don’t pay a lot of $$ you can still get a few bucks for the old CD/​DVDs you have sitting around collecting dust. Just beware they often turn away popular items simply because they’re overstocked. Don’t take it personal. A store only needs so many used copies of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
**BONUS TIP**
This is one of the best spots in the town to get CHEAP phone chargers and earbuds.

Support local music stores!
As a former employee of Record and Tape Traders, I’m so happy an independent music store still exists in Baltimore. It’s like walking into a time warp of awesome memories. I love how they have the vinyl section, the used DVDs and CDs, and the random memorabilia scattered throughout. You’ll find exactly what you’re looking for, what you didn’t mean to look for, and things you never thought you would see again.
I also belong to their email list and about once a week (on Tuesdays mainly) they’ll send a list of the new releases and upcoming shows in the the area you can win tickets to.
