I’ve needed some implants placed for over 10 years. Due to the expense of these ($ 5,000 plus at a regular dentist) and my paralyzing fear of the dentist, I haven’t followed up until the pain of one of my teeth was more than my fear.
Some of the procedures (implants included) are completed by doctors (dentists). These doctors chose to continue their schooling for a specialty instead of starting their own practice.
I wish I had gone to the Dental School years ago! They make sure I’m completely numb (something a regular dentist never did), and explain everything to me. There was a question about the best course of action for one of my teeth. There were at least four specialist doctors (teachers) looking at the tooth and x-​rays to determine the best action. This wouldn’t happen with a regular dentist.
Even a teeth cleaning is extremely thorough. Yes, the procedures take longer (my cleaning was 3 hours), but, with a regular dentist, you wouldn’t have someone check to make sure it was complete. The teacher checked mine 4 times!
These are students, and you need to make sure you have enough time to go through the process. You will be glad you did. It takes me 2 hours (each way) and $ 40 in gas and parking to go to the school. I’m so happy with my treatment and pricing that I don’t think I will EVER go back to a regular dentist again. As a final note, the school is very easy to find and has their own parking too.

My 6 year old needed a lot of work done in her mouth and I only had a discount plan, not regular Dental insurance. We went to one place and it was going to cost us nearly $ 2000 for everything and on top of that, I didn’t like the service there at all. We called the Baltimore Dental School and it was the best decision I have made in a long time. They take there time and never make a decision without asking another Doctor or two for their opinion. Because my Daughter had to have several things done, they spread out all of her work and she was with the same Dentist each and every time so she would be comfortable when she got there. They were fantastic and I can honestly say that my Daughter bugs me often about when she gets to go back to the dentist. They are AWESOME!
