Van Gough Cafe

First time I tried this place, and the last. I got an iced caramel coffee which was good, but I also ordered nachos and cheese because I was starving and didn’t really have time to run anywhere else. The nachos would’ve been good if there had been any cheese! The amount of cheese they put on it was pitiful (posted pic as well) it is not difficult to make nachos and cheese, just add enough to cover the chips! Plus it was 6.95 for that! Total ripoff

Great great coffee, some of the best I’ve had in Baltimore so far. Really rich and flavorful, although a little pricey (though worth the extra few cents). The atmosphere is also very low-​key. If the shop is empty, this would be a great place to crank out some work, but might get tight if it’s too crowded. Definitely a more local coffee shop and one of my favorites!

A nice little spot to do some work in the late afternoon. It was just myself and one other patron plus the barrista. She was pleasant enough, made my refreshing iced mocha, gave me the wifi password after I asked. There weren’t too many outlets to be found along the wall where all the seating was arranged but I found one at the end.
All in all, I don’t really have a complaint, nor was there anything that particularly stood out.

Great little place in grab a delicious bagel and lox alongside a nice frappé. Beats Starbucks any day!

This is the coffee place I’ll stop if I don’t have time to go any where else. A few times I’ve gone in and it seems like I’m interrupting the staff from doing something much better. I’ll still probably stop by but it’s not my favorite.

This is a fantastic little gem tucked away in the middle of a great neighborhood. The people are always pleasant and the food is always fresh and good. I love the comfy atmosphere and the outdoor seating on a nice day is most pleasant.

The owner was super friendly and there bagels are awesome. Still need to try the coffee. Definitely take a stop by, love this little shop.

Aok. Went about 740 am. Was kinda empty. Very much a neighborhood place… tucked in on side streets. Family owned.
Good coffee. Great bagels from Goldbergs. As people said, they are great.
Some outdoor tables, indoor living room feel. Has lots of board games too. Doesn’t have a lot of buzz but it’s a nice corner café and glad we went.

Not bad — right next door to my new pad. I tried to give it another shot recently but they weren’t open on time. Personally I have trouble getting behind any breakfast spot that doesn’t serve some form on Bacon.

Hidden gem for bagel lovers!!!
They get their bagels from Goldberg’s in Pikesville, and they are absolutely delicious! I love how this little shop buys locally and it’s great to have GOOD and FRESH bagels near my house. (THB has awesome bagels but are always way too crowded, I would much prefer to come here to avoid the lines, just a little tip!). However, since this is a kosher restaurant, no ham, sausage or bacon for sandwiches, I always just get cream cheese bagels. They also offer lox and omelets.
However, this is where they loose a couple stars…
I am a coffee fanatic and I am not impressed by the coffee here, I have had way way way better coffee elsewhere. Each time I get a latte and they are always just average, if not below average.
Also, the set up is odd, you almost don’t know where to order or where to pay, or if they leave your food/​drinks on the counter? They have too many knick knacks for sale all over the place, it is very cluttered, they definitely need to streamline and clean the place up and make it a place people want to go to and hang out in, because there are a few places to sit and relax there.
Service is extremely hit or miss! Last weekend I went and two girls were working, they did not communicate to each other. I placed my order with one of the girls, paid for my food, then I watched her check her phone, check the laptop on the counter, and fuss with stuff before even making my coffee… or bagel… while the other girl who didn’t take my order was playing on her phone by the window. I was standing there staring at them wondering if they made it already, did they know I ordered something? What was happening? I already paid but it looked like no one was making anything… Get it together!
The atmosphere and service needs a facelift for sure, but I go there for the bagels!

I took my wife here for our second date. They have a great ambiance of small business in an up and coming neighborhood in the city. Food was great and they have comfortable sitting/​lounging areas to read a book or work on a computer.

Not a great coffee shop but not bad, it’s just kind of average. If you’re in the neighborhood And need a coffee fix this is a good place. Guaranteed to have no line. The interior is very chill and relaxing. reminds me of my grandmothers house. The food is kind of pricey for what it is.

Super pricey for whack food.

a complete disaster of a birthday lunch for 8 girls. Made a reservation for 9 at 1:30 but they couldn’t even manage 4 pizza bagels because there only 2 plain ones left. No soup nor knishes available. Ok. Frozen falafel balls and canned or instant sour humus. Quesadilla on whole wheat tortilla (not noted on menu). Tuna melt had about 2 spoonfuls of tuna. Each plate came out one at a time, every 10 minutes. I was told that this wasn’t really a restaurant, just a café and that most of the business was in the morning. Why then accept a 1:30 lunch reservation for 9? what a disappointment.

I went here for the first time this past Sunday, and was favorably impressed with this little shop.
I had a mushroom and cheddar omelet on an everything bagel, and a bottle of Odwalla juice. $ 10 seems a tad pricey for a drink and bagel, but if the bagel is tasty I guess I’m ok with it.
And the bagel was tasty. It had a whole lot more flavor than those at Daily Grind. The omelette, on the other hand, was only ok. It was really huge but lacked flavor. My advice would be to make the omelette smaller, and add more seasoning.
A few earlier reviews said the store seemed dirty — it must have been a bad week or something. Everything seemed really clean, the cakes In the desert case looked fresh, and since I had read the Unilocal reviews before I was definitely paying attention to that.
Service was fast, polite, and while not chatty the girls seemed nice enough.
I’m coming back to try more things — but definitely will get a bagel anytime I come in. Those things are tasty.

This is my new favorite coffee spot.
I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a breakfast snob in general… But in my defense it’s my favorite meal of the day! It’s what molds your whole day! You need to start off on the right track and that, to me, means a delicious and filling breakfast as well as some great coffee… Van Gough Café offers just that.
First of all, could the name be any more adorable? Van Gough on Gough Street? Too cute. It’s right on my way to work so I’m able to pop in, get what I need, and go. The barista/​owner is also so sweet. Everything is homemade from the pies to her soups. I haven’t been there for lunch yet but I’m excited to try the soup and falafel… what coffee shop that you know has falafel? Not Starbucks, I’ll tell you that much!
I’ve started going 2 – 3 times a week and the coffee tastes great and is a good price. Try stopping by! It’s centrally located and parking isn’t too bad either.

First, the good: it’s cozy and local. The knish and quesadillas are pretty good.
The eh: they didn’t seem to be too happy about my LivingSocial coupon, which I presented before ordering as requested. My friends and I did end up ordering a decent amount and I tipped on the total, not discounted, amount. I just didn’t feel comfortable with the experience. Other businesses with Groupon, LivingSoical deals haven’t been disparaging in any way.
The bad: a $ 6 sundae that came to the table already melted, messy, and without the promised Reese’s pieces. Quality can definitely be better, particularly for that price (more expensive than Coldstone and Haagen Dazs!). The clump of peanut butter in the ice cream soup was honestly a bit gross.
I understand that local places won’t be as glitzy as chains, but some basic quality is still necessary — ice cream is hard to mess up!

As far as neighborhood cafés go this one is a winner. With it’s cheap specialty coffees, bagels delivered fresh from Goldberg’s of Pikesville, and hip décor this is a great stop in the morning or to get your work done. Pro/​con it’s kosher, leaving your desires unfulfilled Saturday mornings when it’s closed.

All these people who say they is «nothing special» about this place are obviously missing the most important parts of a local coffee and bagel joint, so please allow me to attempt to open your sad angry eyeballs. The barista is incredibly nice and patient with customers, the tables outside are well shaded, plenty of parking and things to lock your bike up to, and the lox was ON POINT. Turn that frown upside down.

Van Gough is a super-​cute café! I keep kosher, but haven’t always, and love that the atmosphere is more sophisticated than the average kosher place and you feel like you’re a regular person. The coffees, mochas, and lattes are really good!
I love to sit in the big comfy chairs and play games, or to sit outside and take in Fells Point. It’s a great spot for relaxing and people watching.
That being said, I wish that the menu had more choices. I’m gluten-​free and dairy-​free, and the menu leaves me longing for more. However, for someone without these allergies who loves dairy, it’s a great spot.
