Vircity

Vircity was awesome. I needed a report bound 45 minutes before it was due. I called ahead and they told me they could do it for $ 5 and it would take about 15 minutes. I came in and they were obviously busy. The woman working the desk was on the phone when I walked in and continued receiving calls as we spoke. I gave her my bundle of clipped together papers. She removed staples from everything and brought my book into the back. Maybe 5 minutes later she returned with a perfectly bound booklet. I was in and out in probably 10 minutes.
The service was perfect. The employee was pleasant and helpful despite being very busy. This will definitely be my go to for copy and printing services, especially over Kinkos, Staples, and similar big chain stores.

Anything to avoid going to UPS, USPS, or FedEX where I’m generally unimpressed with service. I’ve been treated kindly every time I’ve gone here! :)

I really wanted to be excited about this place and their customer service, but I wasn’t. Living and working in the city I’m not able to have packages delivered to my house or to work so I thought I would give Vircity a try.
I received an email that told me I had a package to be picked up. It would have been helpful if they would have told me the cost for the package, their store hours and possibly the fact that they don’t accept credit cards for anything less than $ 5. I could probably find some of this on their website, but going the extra step in customer service makes a big impression.
When I arrived I saw the sign that they don’t accept credit cards for purchases less than $ 5. That would have been helpful for me to know since I never have cash.
The girl that was helping me didn’t seem to know a lot. When I asked questions, I would hear someone from the back room who I couldn’t see yelling out the answers and speaking for the girl that was trying to help me.
I asked if my credit card could just be charged for the $ 5 since I didn’t have cash. That wasn’t allowed I was told, I had to buy something else, or go to the ATM, to get cash. The girl told me to just buy a highlighter, which is the last thing I need. I bought the highlighters.
The girl helping me could not figure out how to use the copier to make a photo copy of my license. It look at least 5 minutes and two different copiers for her to finally make a copy of my license.
Overall, I thought this could be quick, easy and painless to have packages shipped and picked up here, but I really have second thoughts about using them. I have one package that is being delivered there again and then will find an alternative.
For being a business that thrives on customer service, I would expect them to go above and beyond. I know it was just a few dollars, but that few dollars caused me to write this review and to not recommend.

Living in Baltimore city has both its good and its bad. One of the things I’d readily lump into that «bad» category is package delivery. Chances are you’re going to need to have something delivered to you at some point. The question is, will you be there to get it. The even bigger question, will someone else be there to get it before you do. Packages left unattended on stoops in the city have a tendency to acquire certain ambulatory abilities… i.e. they get up and walk away. So either the package is missing when you finally get home or you end up playing the seemingly never-​ending game of tag with the delivery company inevitably leading to an entire Saturday at home in fear that you’ll miss the last delivery attempt before they send your package happily on its way back from whence it came. This leads me to the point of this review.
When I lived in Federal Hill I used the mailbox services of a certain three-​lettered competitor to Vircity. I enjoyed the fact that I didn’t have to worry about receiving packages anymore. I simply had it shipped there and when I was ready I came in to pick it up. They even had an after-​hours option that allowed me to call ahead so they could set out the package and I could enter with an alarm code to retrieve it. Very convenient. Life was good.
Fast forward about a year and we now live in Canton. What to do? I’m certainly not driving to the other side of the harbor every time I need to pick up a package. After a quick search for business services and mailbox rentals I came across Vircity. Vircity is located in Canton’s Can Company business park just down from DAP headquarters. Sure, they’re a lot more than just a mailbox rental joint (check out their website for a full list of their back office support services) but that’s all I needed. My wife and I signed up for an account (which is free and relatively painless) and viola, we once again had a place to receive packages, worry-​free and secure. Janine and her team of talented ladies are always friendly and ready to help. You get to use the Vircity street address so there’s no PO box to hassle with either.
Unlike the other guys, Vircity’s package receipt service is strictly for packages only, no postal mail here, and it’s pay-​per-​use. The fee they charge you is based on the weight and number of packages you receive. The fee ranges from $ 2 for things less than a pound up to $ 20 for big honkin’ packages up to 150 lbs (their max btw). This is actually a pretty good deal if you don’t receive a tremendous number of packages like me. The other place we used charged a flat-​rate (about $ 160/​year) just for their mailbox services. All in all, Vircity gives me exactly what I need. They do offer two other service levels both of which include unlimited free package receipt along with a bunch of other bells and whistles (notary and fax services, printing and binding discounts, USPS mail receipt, etc), but they aren’t for me.
If I had to offer up a few suggestions (and don’t we all?):
–Weekend hours. Closing at 6:30pm and only being open M-​F sometimes makes it a challenge to get there in time.
–A flat-​rate option for package delivery only would be convenient. That way I wouldn’t make sure I had three bucks in my wallet every time I wanted to pick up a package.
–The pricing scale on their website is a bit confusing. Customers are lazy (me included) and need everything spelled out for them. The easier it is to follow, the better. There appears to be a price break missing from 15lbs to 25lbs. Or maybe it’s anything up to 25lbs is still $ 3. See what I mean?
–More info in the «notice of receipt» emails. Possibly the sender or the tracking number. That way I know what to expect.
–An after-​hours pick-​up
I would highly recommend Vircity to anyone living on the north side of the harbor that needs highly professional and skilled people to watch their packages. Wait, that didn’t come out right. I mean, if you need someone to hold your package for you. Oh, forget it. You know what I mean. Stop in and say hi to Janine and set yourself up an account today. It’s piece of mind that’s definitely worth the price of admission.
