A lovely place for children, adults, families… really whoever loves animals, barbecue and ice cream. The Friday/Saturday night barbecue is delicious. A good assortment of grilled items(vegetarian items available), served with various side dishes of all kinds. The playground is great for the kids and the animals are super friendly and so cute. The store has great fruits and vegetables, as well as meats, cheese and various snack items. The deli in the back does great sandwiches. I highly recommend all aspects. Enjoy!

Recommended by a family member we decided to try their sandwiches for lunch today. After browsing the menu I decided the ‘Barn Burner’ tickled my appetite. This sandwich consists of buffalo chicken, onions, peppers, jalapenos, guacamole, and American cheese grilled on ciabatta bread. There was a VERY healthy amount of meat which tasted freshly sliced. The vegetables were minimally on the Sandwich and the jalapenos had just enough heat which was cooled by the guacamole. I will come back the place again to not only buy the sandwiches but also in order to purchase their homemade breads and fresh milk. No complaints, good food, just didn’t blow me out of the water which I need for 5-stars.

Carter-Stevens has a very attractive store with great milk, cream, fabulous ice cream(dairy is the highlight here), a good selection of wine and beer, nice cheeses and some good quality basic groceries for convenience. The barbecues are fun and the food is okay(but a bit pricey) and if you are local, it is a social event too. The deli sandwiches are not good, in fact, we have marveled that it is possible to make such bad sandwiches(locally, compare to Rose 32, Clover Hill or your own kitchen! –MUCH better). The fact that they sell Boar’s Head is great, but you can’t buy it after 2:00PM when the deli closes. That’s right, if you miss lunch time, you’re out of luck for sandwiches or deli meat. The vegetables and fruits are often not fresh; check the corn tassels, often brown and dried out. Other local farms bring in fresh corn every day. Better berries can be found at the farmer’s market. I try to support local businesses and was a regular at Carter-Stevens for many years as part of my weekly shop. The young women who work there are, for the most part, really nice, helpful and friendly. After all those years, I thought it was reasonable to be acknowledged by the owners, but no. I made the decision to find other local places to to spend my money. Overall, it’s a good place to stop if you are driving through, but if you live locally, you can find similar products at other farms and businesses in the area, except for their ice cream-It’s the best around.

I love everything about this place. Great sandwiches, ice cream, new organic products in the store, and rabbits/goats to play with out back. Fun for the whole family. Also, be sure to check out the BBQ and music on the weekends!

I stopped here just for an ice cream passing through, which was pretty good. Homemade farm fresh ice cream is excellent! They also have BBQ on Friday and Saturday nights which was pretty tempting, but I stuck to just ice cream. I’ll leave that for another time for sure. It smelled really good, and everyone seemed really happy with it. Plenty of seating, and a great place for kids. They have a small petting zoo, a small play area for kids, and a store with fresh cheese and milk. This will be on the agenda for a return motorcycle trip, as it is located on nice winding back country roads in Barre.

Love this place ! First they make great sandwiches in their deli(out back thru a narrow hall). I believe they make their own bread, it’s beyond delicious and they had some locally made root beer to wash it down with to boot. They have some of the best rum raisin ice cream you’ll ever have, it was melting quickly on a hot summer’s day so they put the huge cone in a cup. They have a BBQ out front that is only opened on weekends in July & August, no doubt a future road trip from me.

Last summer, we were winding our way back to Rhode Island after a weekend in Vermont, and we end up in Barre. Drive by this really intriguing farm that advertises ice cream, but we’re down to fumes in the gas tank and resolve not to stop anywhere until we fill up. Drive into the booming metropolis that is downtown Barre, and start to think about ice cream. There’s a Hood creamery across the street from the Hess station, but then there was that place we just passed on our way into town… Ask the lady behind the counter at the Hess, should we double back, or just go to Hood? She heaves this annoyed sigh, «I wouldn’t go to that place. I mean, the milk comes from their own COWS.» We’ve been adding Carter and Stevens to our list of must-stops on the way back from Vermont ever since. We’ve been there three times now. First: The ice cream: perfect in every way. Among the best I’ve ever tasted. Lots of fun flavors involving things like peanut butter, crushed cookies and candies, etc. Also lots of good mainstays like plain chocolate and vanilla. Rich and buttery. Made from Jersey cow milk, better than the stuff you get from the store. Second: Petting zoo and playground!!! Bunnies, ducks, goats, and plenty of swings and slides to keep the kiddies amused, as though ice cream weren’t enough. Third: country store: Lots of local products, Vermont cheese, grass-fed meat, etc. Fourth: We saw signs about weekend barbecues held at the farm during summer wekeends featuring grass-fed burgers and live music. Stop by next summer. You might see us.

Carter & Stevens Farm store is so much more than just a farm store… First off I have to mention the ice cream. Now I am not a fan of ice cream usually. But this ice cream is SO creamy, SO dense, SO flavorful, and SO fresh that even I can’t help but order a cup! Carter & Stevens Farm store is an annex to Carter & Stevens dairy farm and so it is no surprise that all their ice cream is made with their own milk from their grass-fed, free range dairy cows. Mmmmmmmm delicious! Oh and they sell their own milk too, in both glass and plastic bottles. Next the Fieldstone grill. On Friday and Saturday nights all summer long the Stevens family runs a picnic style BBQ. The best deal in my opinion is their burger as it is made with their own grass fed beef. Their double cheese burger on a ciabatta roll with homemade hand cut french fries and salad made with local produce is like $ 11. It’s an enormous amount of food, enough for my husband and I to split. And with its free petting zoo and playground, its a great place to bring the kids. Their farm store sells either their own produce or local produce from neighboring farms as well as local and/or organic gourmet foods and a great selection of local beers and wines for very reasonable prices(considering the quality of the products). Spring, Summer, and Fall, Carter & Stevens Farm Store is the place to be!

Okay, so you’re cruising along route 2 heading eastbound from the Berkshires. Stuck in a van with five of your closest relatives and you haven’t stopped for a break in over 90 minutes. You desperately want to jump out of the moving vehicle and stretch your legs but there is no rest stop in sight. When suddenly out of nowhere a colorful painted sign is your beacon of hope reading, «Carter & Stevens Farm Store.» Quickly scanning the text you see two words which are heaven for anyone who isn’t lactose intolerant…“ICECREAM!” Thankfully, the driver pulls into the dirt lot where a small house-like structure serving cold treats and locally grown produce inside. Set up outside the little store are 8 – 10 picnic tables that seat 4 – 6 people for customers to quietly enjoy their mid-day snack. Not too far from the store you’ll find another pavilion serving up hot BBQ which goes throughout the summer. Within the parking area you’ll find a small, and I stress small, petting zoo? Consisting of a rooster, baby calf, a few goats and a single cow. One coin operated dispenser gives a handful of feed for the goats who will not hesitate to folk in your direction. Make sure you bring your own Purell behind there is no restroom here unless you like port-a-potties. Expect nothing flashy but Carter & Steves is a nice stop after a long car ride.
