Established in 1990.

It’s intriguing that the only *local* reviews that Lenny’s has are extremely negative. I would have to say my experience was somewhat different.
It may be because of my background (in terms of where I’ve lived, etc.), but when I went in, looking for an item (leather shoelaces), while I was disappointed that it wasn’t available, I was absolutely floored at the fact that the salesperson I asked went so far as to recommend essentially a competitor!
It may be the locavore spirit that is really at the center of many Vermont communities; however, having had my fair share of not finding something at one store and the representative’s subsequent depraved indifference toward helping me out as a person, I was still really impressed that the person I spoke to, while not being able to supply me with what I wanted in Lenny’s, took the initiative to recommend another business that could supply me. It certainly ensured that my money was spent in Barre.
In the end, Lenny’s benefited from this extra work — I noticed that they had a rack of sunglasses for sale. While they weren’t a priority item, I decided to take a few extra minutes of my evening, and purchased a pair there in gratitude.

The store is clean and the people generally friendly, but unless you know exactly what you are looking for and the item happens to be on sale, there are many better places to spend your money.
My experience with Lenny’s is mostly relating to purchasing running gear or shoes. The staff has no clue about the running products they carry and generally they defer to the statement, «purchase „brand X“, because they’re the best brand». They sell a variety of shoes, but have no real idea about the type of shoe a person should be wearing based upon foot type and gait and would rather sell you one of their $ 100 shoes plus a $ 60 insert because «the foot analysis computer knows exactly how to correct the issue that the shoe can’t».
Once again, friendly people, but do not buy here unless you know exactly what you want.

My father and I visited here recently to purchase a pair of sneakers for him. Even though there were 4 sales people in plain view on the floor, we were ignored as my dad looked at the shoes. After 10 minutes of looking and 5 minutes sitting waiting to be helped, I finally went to the registers to ask for help.
Background: My dad is not the most upkept person, and he usually looks like a semi-decently dressed homeless person. A sample outfit consists of Velcro shoes from Wal-Mart, stained, ripped jeans from the year I was born, and an ugly striped bowling shirt. He can afford to dress nicely, he just doesn’t care.
Sadly, this kind of thing often happens to my dad when he goes into any kind of clothing store besides Wal-Mart. Just because someone doesn’t look like they can afford to buy a $ 100 pair of sneakers doesn’t mean that they can’t or won’t.
I most likely won’t be shopping here in the future, even though I like most of their stock and they have good sales.

Excellent selection. Really friendly service but I really wanted to find the right pair of shoes and felt too much pressure having the shoe person in front of me the whole time asking me which one was it. I wish they would have asked me if I needed assistance.
I am definitely going back. I recommend everyone in the area check it out.
It all appeared to be on one floor, might be tight for a wheel chair but I bet they’d make space.
