Established in 2012.

Store was opened in November, 2012 by John Brown and family, a local Barrington resident because of a lack of hardware availability in the market.

Business Owner

John Brown opened Ace Hardware Barrington in Nov. 2012, Prior business experience was with the Estee Lauder Companies in sales and marketing, with prestige department stores. Barrington resident since 1989. The hardware business was always an interest, the Barrington community needed a local store, teamed up with ACE as it provided good partnerships and support. We are dedicated to friendly helpful service to our community.

Worst customer service ever. Seems as if the employees are put out if you even think about asking them for assistance. I asked two different employees for help today and it was like they could care less. I will definitely be making the drive down the road to the Ace in Palatine where the staff actually treats people as valued customers.

Every time I walk in this store I get the most inadequate service ever. I attempted to go back to give them the benefit of the doubt a few times and the same. Its as if I’m bothering them it seems when asking a question. They just say they don’t know and walk away… it was unbelievable. It’s an older group of men working there… one was actually spitting on the ground in the store while «helping» me. I will happily drive to the store down on Route 22 as opposed to go a block away into this store again. Polar opposite experiences. These older men have to learn how to help people and stop spitting and swearing when customers are around. Disappointed to say the least with this establishment.

Best service ever for a hardware store and definitely one of the best guest service staffs in the entire retail industry. They are always very helpful and friendly. Also, plenty of patients and knowledge with a willingness to share. If I know I will be out that way I will hold off on hardware shopping so I can get it here… and I recommend the same for you. Absolutely worth the trip!

Ok, TWO five star reviews? C’mon now. I am VERY glad that there is a hardware store in Barrington. I’ve lived here for 15 years now and not having a local hardware store was a pain. And service wise this place is a million times better than the old Ace that was where the new Walgreen’s stands. But this Ace is lacking in inventory, and a lot of the times the flyers that come in the mail have sale items that this store doesn’t carry because it’s a smaller store. Don’t get me wrong, am I glad it’s here? Yes. Does it have great service? Yes. But it’s lack of inventory compared to the two closest Ace’s is it’s biggest downfall. I know once they are open a while and figure out what sells and what doesn’t the inventory will get better. Until then, there’s room for improvement.

We stopped with a local friend to pick up a couple of things. We asked about candles, someone pointed out a kitchen candle and said how natural this fresh wave product line was and that it was a local company. There is no way it is «natural,» some in the line had plastic beads and it smelled like a cedar pine-​but not a natural fragrance? So then they said it was fragrance free! The stores help was attentive but some of their products — not so great.

Finally, a hardware store in Barrington. Not only do we finally have a store we have a great store. Very helpful, knowledgeable employees and a great inventory. I have shopped there many times and each and every time I’ve come away pleased with the help I have received and their level of knowledge in a variety of product areas. It’s great not having to run out to the mega stores and parking lots for everyday hardware needs.

What a welcome addition to barrington, and within walking distance of my house! An unexpectedly huge selection of tools, hardware and pretty much anything you need for that weekend project. Saves a trip fighting traffic to another store. Friendly and helpful staff is ready to answer any question. They have Craftsman, Dewalt and many great brands and being so close, I’ve already overspent my tool allowance. I was surprised to find that tool prices (and snowblower prices) are identical to Home Depot… why drive, shop local.
