We found ourselves craving something sweet after a healthy dinner a couple nights ago and Kaleidoscoops showed up on our radar. Since it was the only ice cream shop in town that was open and looked good, we went to scoop it out. Kaleidoscoops is a bright burst of colors and ice cream. It’s kind of like a rainbow Baskin-Robbins — the same layout but with colorful chairs, walls, pictures, and ice creams. So many flavors! We each had one scoop in a cone — a small and simple dessert. I opted for the sugar-free Cherry Vanilla and my sweetheart had a chocolate chip of some sort. They were delicious — just what we needed. We paid a total of $ 5 for our two little single-scoop cones. Eh. I guess that’s OK. I was kind of surprised no one else was there as Kaleidoscoops is located near a movie theater and a sandwich shop — no families, sports teams, or other couples. It was a bit chilly outside, so that might be why we were the only customers on this dark autumn evening. Or maybe it was just the kind of night where everyone stays home. Regardless, the woman working behind the counter was happy to see us and provided us with very friendly & pleasant service. There is nothing mindblowing here but there is nothing to complain about either. Upon walking out, we noticed a sign advertising an all-you-can-eat ice cream buffet for $ 7.99. I wonder what that was?! We didn’t ask. Maybe next time.

I forgot to count last time I went, but if I could estimate, I’d say there are about forty flavors of ice cream. I saw at least one sugar free option, also. I think only the owner and his daughter work there, or at least for the most part. The girl is really nice and last time I went, the man(who I’m pretty sure is the owner) accepted my birthday coupon for a free scoop, even though I had to show it to him on my screen because I didn’t get a chance to print it out. I always get a scoop of birthday cake ice cream and a scoop of cotton candy ice cream. Soooo much sugar, but soooo good. The place is pretty colorful and very inviting for children. They even have tiny tables for kids to sit at. The shop is located in downtown Barrington, next to the Catlow theater and Baloney’s sandwich shop. There is only street parking, so you may have to walk a block if you don’t get a spot right out front, and be careful because there is always a lot of traffic in that area.
