Marquardt of Barrington Service

My grandfather who is almost 90 and bought 2 Buicks for him and his wife here. Mike Hubbard the manager treated my grandfather very badly !! He refused to do the warranty mandated repairs, and my poor Opa had to go somewhere else and spend thousands :(my grandpa is almost 90 and a German immigrant and our family definitely agrees that he was taken advantage of for this. No one should be treated this way !!! My Opa doesn’t know how to use the internet so I’m posting this for him. Shame on you Buick and Mike Hubbard !! Don’t go here !!

I bought my car out of state, so I needed to find a local dealership for my service and maintenance appointments. They were very accommodating in making an appointment for me for my car’s first oil change. People were friendly, waiting room was comfortable, and they washed my car. This will be my go-​to location for service.

1) I bought a new battery for my 2012 GMC Terrain in August 2014 from an auto store. In November, I began having intermittent issues starting the car. May 2015 rolls around and the car will not start so we have it taken to Marquardt. They tell us it’s the battery so we replace it, although it seems odd since batteries last much longer than 9 months. Intermittent starting issues begin again in July 2015. Bring it back in and Marquardt can’t figure it out so they send us home doing nothing. This week, more intermittent starting issues except this time the battery is completely drained. Bring it back in to Marquardt and they say it’s the starter. Now I’m feeling a bit miffed that I paid for a battery in May which truly didn’t solve the issue. Marquardt did nothing to rectify this when I brought it up except to say some crap about the diagnostic report said the battery was dead. I know very well they didn’t test the starter, they stopped at the battery when they saw it was dead.
2) During the starter replacement, they took my car through their car wash (which came out with more spots on it bc they didn’t use a towel to dry it off). The car wash must have broke my antenna which I noticed once I brought my car home. Of course, this required another trip to the dealer to get a new antenna; trip #3 of the week. My mom was trying to do me a favor and picked up the antenna so we had to put it on ourselves. Well, hard to do when the screw from the original antenna is still in the mount.
3) Customer service went down hill once I called to complain about the antenna and how I couldn’t replace it. While they did send someone out to my work to pick up the car, replace the antenna, and bring it back, our service advisor Jim and anyone else above him has yet to show me why I should return as a customer. I left Jim a voicemail about the antenna voicing my frustration. He decided to call my husband back (who he had never spoken to this whole week!). When my husband broached the subject of our dissatisfaction, he scooted off the phone quickly. My husband then called to speak with the next level up. That was much earlier this morning and he has yet to receive a call back. They obviously don’t value us as customers (perhaps they don’t need us, who knows). Also, the nice man who picked up my car was sent to do a bit of dirty work. I left the antenna they gave us on the work bench in our garage so I didn’t have it when he came to trade vehicles. My bad– I didn’t realize I would need that exact antenna nor did I think they would come pick up my car. When he dropped off my car, he told me that the «big boss» said I have to bring it back or else I’d be charged for it. Seriously? Thanks for not calling my husband back to talk about our concerns and sending your retired hourly employee to deliver your dirty threats.
I’d be happy to change this review or take it down if Marquardt would call myself or my husband back to have a civil conversation regarding our situation. However, at this point I can only recommend that you never touch foot in their service department.

A routine oil change and recall item turns into $ 650 bill, $ 550 of that in labor. After multiple phone calls and finally reaching the service manager, there is still no legitimate explanation to justify this excessive labor charge. It’s apparent this was an opportunity to confuse and take advantage of a senior citizen with a low mileage car that goes into service because months have gone by on the calendar.
The reason for going the extra distance to Marquardt was for trustworthy service. That trust has been broken. There is no returning to Marquardt.

We are disappointed in the service provided to my senior citizen mother in law. She brought in her car for an oil change and drove away with an almost $ 800.00 bill.
She arrived at her appointment time at 10:15 for an oil change and a warranty air bag replacement and the service writer told her she needed a 60k checkup too.
She of course said ok. When they were done with the car before 12:00 noon they changed her $ 550.00 in labor plus parts.
I called the service writer to see what was done during this 60k check up he rattled off a handful of items that are checked. I asked him if all these things could be checked in under an hour. He couldn’t get me off the phone fast enough.
We know the Marquardt family from the kid’s school and I don’t think the service department is representing the values of the ownership.
She will not be returning due to lack of trust in the service department.

Excellent dealership. Matthew helped me with my routine service. Art gave me a complete tour of the dealership. I was so impressed with how friendly, respectful and genuine everyone was there! Not to mention they washed my car after the service! The Buick runs great and looks nice too! I am so appreciative. I hope every one in the area will take advantage of their awesome service!!!
