Skyline Drive In

Well we drove a long way for this drivein experience and the only problem was getting in the drive in it took us 25 mins from the street to pay that poor guy needed help and looked like it was his first day. But everything else was great awesome snack bar. Great old intermission cartoons.

Our first time there with the family, screen is very clear facilities are clean, popcorn is fresh, will definitely be back

Love it. No one yells when you snore in theater! Lol. Been coming for 15 years as a date with friends now we bring the kiddos.

Came to Barstow to check out this particular drive-​in theater. Caught a movie on a Tuesday night total of no more than 10 cars between the 2 screens. Paid cash. The guy at the front was helpful, funny and nice. There is a funny sign that says «Cash Only, ATM down the street». Wish I had taken a picture of it, it was so funny to me.
When the screen comes to life, you see some old timey concession stand cartoons. It really adds to the experience.
We didn’t bring a radio, so we used the car radio. Started up the car a few times during the movie, so the battery wouldn’t die.
Concession stand was cute. I agree with some of the other Unilocal reviews, doesn’t seem like the popcorn is fresh. The doors to the theater opened at 8pm. and when we went to the concession stand… There was no popcorn popping in the popcorn machine. Girl behind the counter got the popcorn from a heated bin. The girls were nice.
All in all regardless of the popcorn. It was a nice theater, good sound, nice screen… nice view of the city and a great sunset. I would recommend this place to everyone I know.

Took my boyfriend to my hometown to meet the grandparents and skyline drive in was top of the list of things we needed to do in Barstow. It was his first time at a drive-​in and it was perfect! Thanks for keeping a part of my childhood open and allowing us to make new memories!

Such a great experience watching a movie in the desert. Although Barstow is a bit rough around the edges we picked a week night to visit so there weren’t a lot of cars. The snack bar seemed fairly priced as well.

Great place to take the kids take your lawn chairs to sit in if you dont like sitting in the car
only thing i did not like was the nachos before they where great corn chips last time i went they where like flour chips no bueno you get a lot but tasted funny liked them how they used to be corn chips next time go will see if they changed them back. Also its great now with the digital projector great price great family place kids love it

My gf and I went last night and were the only car there for quite awhile. We got to talking to the owner in the snack bar and had a pleasant conversation. He went above and beyond for sure — not only keeping the place open despite the lack of patrons, but generally making us feel welcomed and providing a good vibe. We had a great time and would frequent this place again and often if we didn’t live 130 miles away. I think people have forgotten how awesome drive-​ins are — go and enjoy!!! Once these types of places close, they never come back. Thanks again to the owner!
Oh, GREAT Nachos and fresh Popcorn. He layers the cheese and butter (respectively), so its good till the end. Popcorn gets 1 free refill too — good for intermission: D

Good place to watch 2 movies for $ 8 a adult not bad at all… Cash only if that helps anyone… Had a great time

This place has gone downhill since it reopened. The bathrooms are horrendous, most of the stalls don’t even shut or lock. They only take cash, who the hell even carries cash anymore? It is a 40 minute drive and when I looked on their Facebook for the show times, it said nothing about being cash only and the ticket booth guy was very rude about it. I used to love this place as a kid but it has just gone to hell. I’m incredibly disappointed that I wasted time trying to save this place when they needed to go digital.

YAY!!! My first drive in! As a city girl, my exposure to the outdoor is not as extensive as I would like… I was overly excited when the opportunity to do a classic Movie Drive In landed on my foot steps! After a LONG HOT day in the dessert, it was awesome just chilling in the car, watching movies and snacking down on popcorn and soda. The food prices were amazing affordable. $ 2.50 for a small popcorn and $ 2.50 for a small soda. If I hadn’t just had a giant meal, I would of totally gone for the $ 4.50 large popcorn with the free refills! I also had left over pizza from dinner I munched away as «second dinner»

The movies are a lot crisp and clearer now that they switched to digital.
2 movies for $ 8 = fantastic deal!

Great family fun, all you need is the car. Way cheaper than taking them to the theater and you get 2 movies. The digital projectors are a major improvement. Confession prices are fair and they have the best popcorn around. We rarely go to the theater but come here 6 or 7 times a year. They show good 1^st run movies and lean toward family films. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!

Super fun flashback. Great deal of $ 8 for two movies, family friendly atmosphere and really takes you back to your childhood… strongly recommend to give Skyline Drive In a try! You and your family will love it!

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Came the week it reopened, great movies, the concession stand was reasonably priced and they were super friendly. I used to come here as a kid in the 70s and 80s. Brought my kids for the first time and they loved it

Skyline is fun. Just come prepare with snacks don’t recommend to buy anything from here. Popcorn, soda and butter taste very old. Popcorn and soda are 9.00 dollars and refills .50c but not not yummy!!! Great movies. Adults pay 8.00 and kids 2.00 not bad.

So as a child in the ’80’s I remember going to a drive-​in maybe one time as a very young child before they all started closing-​down. So when I saw that there is still a Drive-​in out in Barstow which is still open and plays first-​run movies (we saw a double-​feature of Frozen and Thor) I had to make time in our weekend four-​wheeling trip to the Barstow back-​country to check it out!
This place is a kick! Everything about is old school and that makes it so much cooler than if they tried to give it the modern megaplex vibe (which would suck at a venue like this).
There were four of us crammed into my little Isuzu Amigo 4×4, two adults and two teens and we all appreciated being able to talk throughout the first movie (Frozen, it was a bit young for the crowd in my SUV) without fear of being kicked-​out. Once Thor came-​on I had a new appreciation for the stereo system the previous owner of my SUV installed; the sound quality was great!
The snack bar was well-​stocked, the people friendly and it provided the four of us (two of which had never been to a drive-​in before) a very unique movie-​going experience!
We will be back the next time we overnight in Barstow!

Drive in movies are such a unique and fun experience. You get to control the volume of the movie (I like to blast my ear drums), bring whatever snacks you want and no stress of texters, loud chewers or talkers. Great experience and highly recommended!

Yes, I drove all the way to a drive in in Barstow. Don’t worry, I wasn’t alone. And I made a day trip out of it to make the trip even more worth it. I’m in a car club and the chapter I’ve chosen to associate with hosted a meet for the Fast and Furious screening. Several cars showed up and everyone (I hope) had a great time.
The only special treatment we got was we got to enter an hour early and through the exit instead of getting in line. This helped us parked together and make sure no one gets blocked by taller vehicles and what not.
The movie started without a hitch and we didn’t even need the car stereo. Just cracked the window open and listen from their speakers or maybe one of the car next to us had an awesome system, who knows.
Definitely had a great time. I would come back more often if it wasn’t so far :)

What a great experience. A good movie on a big screen, under the stars, with the gentle breeze. This is really a great place to take a date, have a family night, or even just go by yourself when you have nothing else to do. And with this slumping economy, this is a great alternative to a regular movie theater. Two movies for less than the cost of one! Not to mention the prices at the snack bar are very reasonable, but you can always bring your own food anyway. I hope this place sticks around for a long time to come.
Some tips — get here early to get a good spot. Also, if they used to not take cards, they do now, making it more convenient. The staff here is very friendly as well!
