Ace Relocation Systems

I strongly advise against using this company for packing. The ace employees who packed up my apartment stole two expensive coats. As soon as I realized the two coats were missing from the box in which all of my other (less expensive) coats had been packed, I contacted Ace. They told me to file a claim with Atlas (the moving company they use) which was appropriately rejected since the coats were «lost» by the packers and not during the move itself. I am pursing legal charges against the employees who packed up my apartment. Do yourself a favor: pack yourself or use other movers.

Unfortunately we didn’t have the best move experience but it appears to have been a rare case for this company. I was impressed with how they handled the claims and issues after the fact.

Our «stuff» got delivered on time and under the quoted price, and not one damaged item! You were all a pleasure to work with. We hope we never need to move again, but if we do, we’ll call on you.
We worked with Noren on both ends of our move. He was there helping to load everything in Chicago, and then unloading it again when we reached the Phoenix area. He, along with his crew on each end, were all helpful and professional. Noren also kept in contact with us so we knew exactly when to expect the delivery. Fabulous customer service all the way around! Thanks again!

I did not use Ace to relocate, this is a commentary on the professionalism of their employees. I moved into an apartment building recently and booked my service elevator time for a two hour time slot. Prior to this, someone who was moving out of the building booked Ace to pack their belongings and move it for them. When my time came to, I went to asked one of the men if they were done and followed him up to the loading dock. I said, «Excuse me.» He turned around, made eye contact with me, turned back around, and walked away. I literally had to follow him into the building and yell «Excuse me» very loudly at him again. I got lots of attitude from him, was told they were done, then heard his partner mutter something like, «We’re gonna need three more hours.» Man 1 said to keep going. All I had was a van half-​packed with belongings, which they saw, and if they just let me use the loading dock and service elevator for 30 minutes I wouldn’t have been as upset as I am with those individuals. In all, it took 3 trips to my doorman, and about 1 hour and 5 minutes to get Ace’s employees free from the loading dock. That was 1 hour and 5 minutes of the two hour time slot I reserved and which they knew I reserved. They just chose to be rude about it because they showed up late to the job. I had everything packed and unpacked within 30 minutes, but I could’ve been productive with my time. Based on this experience, I’m not likely to use or recommend Ace ever. If a company condones their employees treating human beings they don’t know this way, I can’t imagine having to run into these individuals again as a paying customer.

This service took one phone call and it all fell together perfectly! Kurt set it up in minutes. And the two movers, Josh and Brenden were efficient, professional and knowledgeable. They got this huge couch out of the basement without any problem, helped my brother-​in-​law put a piece of furniture in his basement on the other end and went to two different houses to set up furniture. The prices were reasonable and the whole process went like clockwork. I highly recommend this company. I will be calling when we move from Plainfield, IL!

One of the best moving experiences yet — and I’ve moved cross country 7 times in the last 18 years. Having moved within cities and doing the coast to coast moves, this most recent move in Chicago was a carefree experience.
Besides being referred by my cousin who works at the corporate office in Evansville, IN for Atlas Logistics, Kurt Kramer was the main reason I decided to go with Ace Relocation again for my move in Chicago.
Kurt is a genuinely nice person who truly cares about making sure you have everything you need to make your move go as smoothly as possible. He went above and beyond and was even getting back to me with answers to my questions outside of his normal work hours — several times I had to tell him to stop working and enjoy his evening and he can get back to me in the morning. Of course, he didn’t and always responded in a pleasant and cheerful manner.
Fortunately for me, this was not the first time I’ve used Ace Relocation — I used them when I moved cross country from San Diego to Chicago 4 years ago via the Smart Move pods (unfortunately they no longer use them) and that experience was a positive one as well. Having already worked with this company in San Diego, I knew I was in good hands in Chicago and of course, it was another great moving experience for me! Who can honestly say that especially when it comes to moving — it’s probably one of the most stressful events in your life.
What I appreciate the most about this company was their flexibility with my indecision to go ahead and move my things cross country back to San Diego to be put in storage or locally moved and stored here in Chicago until my big move back to San Diego in October. Kurt was easy going and informed me that no matter if I decided to do a local move or an interstate move — it would be the same process just different addresses at the end of the day. This immediately put my mind at ease knowing they were going to be there to move me no matter where I ended up. Thank you Kurt for keeping me grounded those hectic 2 weeks of going back and forth on what to do.

Ace Relocation Systems came recommended by New City Moving (New City is FABULOUS, but they don’t do international moves) so I contacted them.
I called them twice, asking to speak with somebody who could answer my questions and set up a time to view my apartment. I was told that Amy would call me but I didn’t hear from anybody. I phoned back a third time, and asked to speak with a manager.
David, the general manager, was apologetic, and walked me through a telephone assessment of my move, priced the move and sent me a contract. I did not want to commit to a contract until somebody had actually come into my apartment for a physical assessment of my belongings, so we scheduled something for 2 weeks from the date of our conversation.
Fast forward to the day I was expecting a visit at 11am from the same Amy I was initially looking to speak with. Nobody showed up. I phoned the firm, and spoke to the ever elusive Amy, who told me that there was nothing in the system about my move!!! I gave her my pick up date, and sure enough, they couldn’t accommodate me.
At that point, I decided that Ace Relocation Systems was definitely NOT going to get my business — they lack professionalism and commitment. I would never trust them with my belongings, nor should you!

Ace relocation had the most competitive quote so we went with them. Moving from Chicago to California is not cheap! Not to mention, Kurt who put our quote together, was really nice and worked with us on getting the quote to be a number we could work with.
Although having Ace pack everything was around $ 1500, we decided to do it ourselves to save money and I think next time we would just have them take care of everything. Buying boxes and bubble wrap is expensive! If you can afford it, have them do it!
Everything went smoothly on move-​out day. The guys seemed to take care of our things and worked quickly. Like many people, our things arrived on the last quoted day in the window but they still made it within the time frame.
When our stuff arrived, that was when things went downhill. The driver of the truck claimed he couldn’t make it up to our apartment with the truck, which is up a small hill but has plenty of room to park about 50 feet from our apartment (about the same distance as on a street where a house is located back on a lot). In fact our landlord said trucks make it up here all the time. We put up a fight about it but the driver did not budge and alas, we were charged $ 815 more for them to get a shuttle truck. A ridiculous amount of money for a U-​Haul truck.
Additionally, the movers lost the hardware to our crib so we had to buy a pack-​n-​play for him to sleep in until it was fixed by a 3^rd party, they lost a baby gate so we had to buy another one in the meantime so our child didn’t fall down the stairs, they scratched our 42″ TV and cracked our child’s hutch cabinet. We have filed a claim so hopefully we will receive some compensation without trouble.
Update: Over a month after our stuff arrived — no compensation for the baby gate yet (and they don’t respond to emails). Some 3^rd party has come to fix the furniture but have not completed the job yet. Very frustrating.

Ace was just ok — all of our items arrived within the specified time frame and most were undamaged. We got quotes from several companies and Ace had the best reviews of all the companies who provided prices within our target price range. Note that Ace is an Atlas agent — so your belongings will be shipped through the Atlas truck network and subject to their timing decisions. Like others have mentioned, we also appreciated that there would be no extra charges for mattress boxes, furniture blankets, etc. We also really appreciated that our quote included zero-​deductible insurance for the REPLACEMENT COST of any damaged goods (note that most companies provide a dollar amount per pound insurance — so if a $ 500 camera that weighs 5lbs is destroyed, you’ll get just a couple of dollars from an insurance claim because of the low weight, whereas if a $ 10 umbrella base that weighs 30lbs is destroyed, you’ll get much more from an insurance claim)
When we first met with Kurt, he provided us with an estimated 10 or 11 day delivery window (pickup on Thursday or Friday and delivery by a week from Monday), and said that (1) he would try to shorten this window for us if possible and (2) he would know within a couple of days BEFORE our items were picked up what the truck schedule would be like and when our items would be delivered. We spoke with Kurt and Debbie nearly daily for the week or so before our pickup date but, beyond telling us that the driver hadn’t finalized his pickup and delivery schedule yet and they couldn’t guarantee a shorter time frame, we were able to get NO information about our delivery timing. The day our items were picked up (a Friday) we were still unable to get any information about our delivery date, other than that it «probably wouldn’t be before Tuesday.» This was problematic for us as we were moving cross-​country and were going to drive our car and some valuables from one home to the other; if our belongings were going to arrive quickly, we would do the drive in 2 days with no detours, but if it was going to take a while, we were going to stop and visit family along the way. Plus, we had to provide advance notice for elevator reservation to the building where we were moving in.
As we couldn’t get any more information from Kurt, Debbie, Marcia (at Atlas) or the driver, we drove straight through in 2 days (in case our stuff was getting there Tuesday). The whole time, we remained in contact with the Ace/​Atlas team and were never able to get any information other than that delivery wouldn’t be within the next day or two. Finally, on about Wednesday or Thursday, we learned that delivery would be on Monday — the VERY end of the delivery window. *sigh*
Our items were delivered on Monday morning; coffee talbe was scratched, couch legs were chipped, and headboard was dropped on its face, dropped again and «repaired» with wood chips, wood glue and longer screws (as the screws pulled out from the headboard support). We filed a claim immediately and Atlas scheduled a local woodworker to come look at the items; he concluded only the coffee table was worth the cost of repairing, so Atlas paid us for new couch legs and a new headboard and paid the woodworker to resurface the coffee table (which looks amazing, BTW!). The claims process went was very smooth and relatively quick, but of course we hoped not to end up in a claims process!
Altogether, it wasn’t a terrible experience — and again, ALL of our items made it to our new home, which I understand is more than can be said for some moving companies. It was just very stressful and I think could have been better. :-/

Here is a list of reasons why we went with Ace, and why we were happy that we did.
1. We had 5 quotes total. Kurt was so friendly and knowledgeable. He wasn’t a pushy salesman. He explained everything thoroughly – how everything would be packed, what to expect on moving day, etc…
2. I liked that Ace did not have small charges for everything like mattress bags, wardrobe boxes, moving boxes, etc…
3. Most of our quotes only included 3 men to move us. I like that Ace sent 4 men. This made the move go so smooth.
4. Jennifer was so friendly on the phone. Even though we never met in person I felt like I knew her. She made herself available to me if I ever had any questions (Kurt did as well). I felt very taken care of during a stressful time.
5. Josh, Brandon, Cody, and Rich were all super! They each introduced themselves and shook my hand when they came in. They were so polite, professional, friendly, and they worked very efficiently. This makes a huge difference in your stress level on moving day. I didn’t feel like we had a group of strangers moving us.
We could not be happier with our moving experience with Ace. We will be recommending them to our family and friends :)

This company is awesome from top to bottom! Kurt, Jennifer, and Jimmy and the crew of movers were, to a man, a joy to work with. They went above and beyond to EARN our business, and their execution of our move was like a miracle. Anybody can pick up heavy stuff, but the movers who came to our house were so positive, so joyous, that it was impossible to be stressed out. When you add that to the fact that they were punctual, professional, and unbelievably hard working, you get a move that is as good as moving can possibly be! I have already recommended them to friends who are moving, and I will refer them as much business as I can from now on. Moving doesn’t have to suck! Let Ace show you how.

I was extremely impressed with all of the individuals I interacted with at Ace Relocation here in Illinois. The movers were professional and timely. All of my belongings were delivered (up to the third floor mind you) in excellent condition. The moving team was incredibly efficient and friendly. If I move again I would absolutely use Ace Relocation and highly recommend their service to others.
