Union Jack’s Olde Congo Hotel

AWESOME wings, unique wing sauces. Honey Carib and Carib BBQ are yummy. I’ve had the burgers and salads before too and they’ve been pretty good. Kind of a smaller place, but it’s nice that it’s closer to the Pennsburg area than the other Union Jacks in West Boyertown/​Oley area.

Could be perfect with a few vegetarian options added! The vegi burger I s not homemade and pretty bad compared to other places. Soups are great. Please add a few vegi options to keep the healthy crowd engaged!

Stopped by for a late dinner and beer this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by their beer list. It offered many choices and was well rounded. The waiter did a great job recommending beers as well.
The restaurant itself was an old building that had a lot of character. It made the place feel casual and laid back, without feeling like a hillbilly bar.
As a vegetarian, I struggle to find a decent meal in many restaurants. That was somewhat to case here, but not completely. I had multiple soups to choose from. They had a couple appetizers I could have, and a veggie burger (from a package). I don’t like packaged veggie burgers and as easy as a bean burger is to make, I despise when restaurants offer them. I would love to see more options. A real burger, wraps, a veggie quesadilla…
I ended up getting the roasted red pepper and tomato bisque and fried pickles. My dining partner got the strawberry habanero wings. The soup was 4 stars. Great flavor. The fried pickles came with a spicy ranch. Both had good underlying flavored, but together they were very, very salty. I could not finish them. The wings were decent, but the sauce did not taste strawberry enough. They could stand to add more strawberry and perhaps a touch of honey.
The service was good and the prices were fair. We would return for beers and a snack, but probably not for dinner due to the lack of vegetarian options.
Edit: Someone from the establishment contacted me to let me know that vegetarian options are available. I will update my review once I have gone back.

Best wings around. Great beer selection, especially the not so popular ones. They’re food is really good. Good clams. Good crab soup and crab dip too. Definitely one of my favorite places.

First time here despite living in the vicinity for years. So glad we finally tried it. We got loaded fries app, Old Bay wings, cup of potato soup and a Charleston burger. I had a Stella Cider draft. Waitress was very good, even the music playing was great. Everything was good and we will return.

I adore this place tucked away in the hills of Berks County. I always come here for wing nights in the winter with friends but recently came with family and friends and had dinner out on the back deck. The country view is wonderful the seating comfortable and roomy. We had a very attentive waitress that was very good at adapting to our growing party since we all arrived at different times. The beer selection is lightly extensive, they have something for everyone. The wings are by far the best I’ve ever had. Lots of great choices for entrees as well.

One of my favorite places in the area. An excellent and ever changing array of great craft beers, delicious food, and friendly staff. This is a diamond in the rough an awesome place for those in the know

In the Boyertown area, I would say this place has the best wings with the best flavors; my favorite is the Strawberry Habañero. It also keeps a GREAT selection of draft and bottled craft beers. It should be mentioned that the rest of the food they offer is really good as well. There’s a nice deck outside during the summer and the staff is good at what they do. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the dining rooms have a muted and outdated atmosphere. Personally, I either eat at the bar or on the deck.

Can’t believe this place is so close but we never knew it was here. Awesome character friendly staff and great pub food. Taco Tuesdays, Wing Wednesdays and Thursday burgers. One Thursday burger down and now to try Tues and Wednesdays. The burgers were not made from frozen patty and the wings were cooked perfect. We recommend this place highly.

Love this place! It’s a pretty far drive for me but my husband and I enjoy it so much we don’t mind the long drive. For me it is in the middle of nowhere but what a find! They have the best and most extensive beer list anywhere. The food is delicious and non pretentious but is definitely upscale bar food. My husband loves the wings and claims they are in his top 3 best ever… which is a pretty tough classification to be in. I love the outside bar and seating area and they have live music on the weekends.

Tiny bar. Close indoor seating. Never sat outside but it looks nice. Food is pub fare but very well done. Not an extensive menu. Black and blue burger is outstanding.

Olde Congo Hotel is a lost gem outside of Boyertown. This small bar & restaurant would appear to be a normal watering hole, but the outside appearance is deceiving.
Olde Congo Hotel has a unigue menu or the typical bar-​style options such as burgers, sandwiches, and wings. The food, however, is above par and rival that of some national chains. Wings — the best in the area. The wings are 10-​fold better than Quaker Steak & Lube. The wings are large, meaty, and full of flavor. The flavor options are the normal hot, hotter, and such, but also include unique and special flavorings such as raspberry habanero or spicy jerk chicken. I can go on and on about the wings. I could go on about all the food, really. Nothing is bad and the portions are great for the money.

Beer? Oh yes, they have that too. I am not sure how many taps they really have, but there is enough to have a few known favorites plus another 6 – 10 craft beers; all on tap! If it’s not on tap, then it’s probably in a bottle; both local, national, and craft beers. If they ever have McKinney’s Black-​cherry Cider on tap — order it!
The bottom line — my wife and I end end regretting not going to Olde Congo Hotel after we’ve eating at other restaurants in the Pottstown area.

Service was horrible. We waited while others that came after us got served. Finally asked for the salad. Waitress admitted it was her fault. Got the wrong sandwich. Fries were warm at best. Waitress said she would take off the salad, but she did not when the bill came. Would not go back. Chicken Wrap was far from good. Not many places to go in the area, but would rather drive than go back here.

Great beer selection. Good service. Average food. Never any background music playing in the dining room — strange.

This sure seems like a great place! My wife went here one time for a party and they had a sampling of the food — she said the wings are incredible and we must go there for their Wednesday Night Wing Night!
So we did…
We’ve been there three times now and each time the wings have been great! The sauce is tasty and they have many flavors… want it hot? They got that… want it sweet? Yup… want a mix? Try the Carib-​BBQ or the TexMex!
The wings were very good, the service was very good — very friendly! I have only two criticisms of the place so far… they have no kids menu and the sauce on the wings does not last… What do I mean by that? So they have a rule, you can’t order wings just to take home. no problem there. But we order 20 and usually had 4 or 5 left… we take them home. the next day the flavor is gone… nothing wrong with them, they just lose their flavor… and I’m a big fan of leftover wings and chicken! I love going to KFC, getting an 8 piece, eating 2 or 3 and then savoring the left overs all week.
All in all, we will continue to eat there — maybe even try a non-​wing night.

Excellent wings and burgers. Excellent beer on tap and a huge sellection of bottles. If you are looking for great food and excellent beer, this is the place. I am drinking a Pliny the Elder, and eating a burger with a fried egg and bacon. This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it is one of the best places I have ever been. The only thing better than the food and beer selection is the staff.

Few things to note… It’s cash only, but they do have an ATM. Wednesday is ½ price wings and they have like 15 different flavors. Small Bar area but the bartenders are so knowledgeable and make great recommendations. They also give you samples first if you ask! Outside seating in the warm months. Restaurant section is larger, good for families too.
Wings: I have tried like 5 different flavors so far, my favorite Strawberry Habanero and the Tex Mex. Go on Wednesdays so you can sample more of them for ½ price!!!
Food: Fries are like boardwalk fries, and they are fresh and made daily. Tried a season BLT with veggie sandwich that was so incredibly awesome. They also have a quesadilla that looks so good, trying that next time. Hamburgers are really great and lots of options! They also have regular entrees on the menu, not just pub food! So far everything has been great!!! I just normally get stuffed on the wings b/​c I can’t turn them down. They are the perfect size and done perfectly, you will not be disappointed!
Beer: Like a said a huge selection and I try different things all the time. I tell them a category and they always suggest something that I love. You are doing yourself an injustice by going in and asking for a miller lite!!!
Bar area has two large TVs so games are always on, but get there early for food, the kitchen normally closes around 10pm.
Great find in the Pottstown Area!
