Business Owner

Brian Dunn has been in the restaurant industry for most of his adult life. While attending college, Brian worked various bar and restaurant jobs where he found his passion.

Naturally, he chose to continue his career in the restaurant industry. Brian enjoys being able to serve the public at Counter Culture Frozen Yogurt where quality frozen yogurt is the driving force of the business.

Love the tuna or chicken salad sandwiches on honey wheat served with sprouts! Staff is always cheery and friendly and willing to offer an extra pickle or two– which are fresh and delicious crisp dills! Also love their plain froyo and the Humphrey yogart speaks for itself with fruit, honey and granola– it’s pricey but a tasty treat. Only thing I don’t care for here is the tip line on my receipt– I don’t give tips at drive up windows or inside when there is no table service. Otherwise this is a tasty treat stop. As others have noted if interior was updated and redesigned this would probably be a hipster hangout spot– so glad they don’t do that!

When you walk in, you are immediately greeted with a friendly «hello.» The place doesn’t really jump out at you being anything special. There is this large chalkboard menu on the back wall with anything from a grilled cheese sandwich to a yummy salad to a delicious tuna melt. But you’re not here for that… you head straight to the counter and ask for the Humphrey’s yogurt. No, no, no… not the Irish cream or the German chocolate one; just plain Humprey yogurt. Fine. You can add toppings: fresh fruits, candies or even sprinkles.
So WHY this particular frozen yogurt differed from all the other plain frozen yogurts? The money is on the taste. It is tangy, but sweet; frozen but creamy. For yogurt fanatics, this is what a REAL frozen yogurt is suppose to taste like. When paired with fresh sweet strawberries, in my unofficial expert opinion, your tastebuds just scream! Oh yeah… :)))

I’m reviewing about their tart once again. I believe they must have change the way they make their tart because the last time I was there it wasn’t tart in the least, not plain tart just very… plain.

I’ve only had the ice cream there so don’t read this if you are looking on a food review. This place is never packed. They have a drive through. It’s great for when me and my boyfriend want something healthy but sweet. Humphrey is love in a cup.

Every time if am in Baton Rouge I stop for a Humphrey at Counter Culture. Showed up today. They were supposed to open at 11, at 11:05 door still locked. Went to drive thru, paid almost 8 dollars for a Humphrey and got a plain yogurt with a tinkly amount is fruit. There was no honey and it was not worth the money. Don’t know what is going on at the Perkins location but it was very disappointing for the first time.

While I can only speak to the yogurt, I do so like this little spot when I’m in the area. I can’t say it is anything outstanding, but it’s pretty decent when we need to satisfy our yogurt-​fix. I am interested to come back for lunch one day since I always notice that they serve other things that seem to sound fresh and tasty. I have been here quite a few times when I want a sweet treat that is somewhat on the healthy-​side. I usually get the 8-​calories per ounce version of something for my daughter since she loves the flavors – only wish they didn’t always change them up since we really love the strawberry and salted carmel or german chocolate flavors, and they are not always in rotation. Yummy yogurt with sprinkles, of course! When the flavors of the day (there are usually 3, I think) don’t seem as appealing, I will usually get one of their most «known-​for» treats – the HUMPHREY:) It is pretty yummy, but packs in a more substantial amount and the calories to match it, since it has sliced fruit (bananas, strawberries, grapes), honey, and granola on tart, original-​flavored yogurt. It is really yummy and tends to fill me up more than the lighter yogurts. I would say definitely hit it up if you are nearby or are looking for something fresh and refreshing. I’ll have to check back in and update if I make it over for their other food options soon!

This is a great place for sandwiches, soups, salads and dessert. Let me start with the sandwiches. Finally a place with great tasting chicken salad, fresh veggies and sprouts (it seems sprouts are a rare commodity in the South; at least as a sandwich topping) the bread is always fresh and delish. The tuna melt is my all-​time favorite. The wheat sour dough bun is glazed with a spicy chipotle sauce then stuffed full of tuna and a fresh slice of guacamole then slightly toasted so it’s warm. Can you say YUM. I haven’t had a sandwich beat the tuna yet, but they have all been great.
The soups are always hot and taste fresh and have daily soup selections ranging from chili to roasted vegetable.
Salads are stuffed of fresh ingredients and you can customize to your liking.
Now to the really good stuff. The yogurt is outstanding. I’m a plain kinda girl (at least with my yogurt) and the fresh toppings are great. They also offer the Humphrey. This is a must try. Yogurt with grapes, banana, strawberries, honey and granola. They also offer low fat sugar yogurt in varied flavors rotated daily. They are quick and also have a drive thru. Friendly service.

I thought the frozen yogurt was slightly overpriced, but it was very good quality. I did not get to try any of the food, but form what I saw from others, i was not extremely impressed. The location itself was pretty plain-​jane, but if you are looking for a place to just hang out and chat, it will serve that purpose. I personally love frozen yogurt and will go out of my way for it, but this place did not have any sort of appeal to it that would make me go out of my way for it nor spend that much money for it. This location is great because it is a convenient stop for others that drive on Perkins and Essen areas.

I had the «hot any meat melt» and it was great. For my meat I chose ham. The avocado, tomato and lettuce was very fresh and the jalapeño bread added a nice touch. I posted a pic but I didn’t get a good shot of the middle :(Anyway checkout the menu they posted if you need to know more. My husband had the pizzaletta and loved it. Its 2 slices of cheese pizza (as the bread) with muffaletta in the middle. I had a bite and liked it as well. We did not try the yogurt because we were super full but if it’s anything like the sandwiches I’m sure it’s great!

I absolutely love this place, but I must admit… I always get the same thing. So I don’t have experience on a wide variety of the menu.
If you go here, get the hot turkey melt on jalapeño cheddar bread! My favorite sandwich anywhere hands-​down. I also get the humphrey yogurt, which is wonderful. It’s plain yogurt with fruit, honey and granola. I go here absolutely all of the time and have never had a bad experience.

Yogurt had very good texture and flavor but very few choices. I had the Iresh Crème and Coconut with granola and coconut flakes. Toppings are in short supply. This place also sold sandwiches, salad and soup which I did not try. Classic New Orleans look in BR which is not always good around here. Pretty funky in there but service was good.

Today I was being generous and decided to give Counter Culture another try. My friend raves about the yogurt and having had a so-​so experience prior I gave in and tried it again today. Previously I had gotten the yogurt and found it well, crunchy. This time it was just awful. I got the marshmallow and chocolate. Both were creamy so at least that was an improvement from last time but the taste I can’t describe it really. The marshmallow had this awful chemical sweet taste that I had to rinse my mouth out just to get the taste to subside. The chocolate though not as scary as the marshmallow was also very fake tasting. After a spoonful of each I had to throw it away in disgust. The other thing is that they have no good toppings that could even sort of saved this nasty mess. Again this was the worst yogurt ever!!! Don’t waste your time or money.

Wow, this place looks like it’s been here a while (menu says since 1977?). Surprised to be the first to review it.
I noticed this place as I drove by it as it has the same name as a popular food trailer in Austin, TX (Food trailers are big in the ATX).
The frozen yogurt craze is in full effect in Austin and I was interested to see what Baton Rouge had to offer.
I walked in and noticed this was not only a yogurt stand but also a sandwich and salad shop, complete with a drive thru. The 2 yogurt machines were behind the counter with a large stainless steel fridge sandwiched between them.
I ordered a chocolate and peppermint yogurt with no toppings.
Peppermint — unfortunately this was inedible, seriously. I could only eat 3 bites. It had an extrememly bitter aftertaste and the peppermint flavor was very strong. In fact if tasted like it was flavored with peppermint oil and it was overwhelming. There was not enough sweetener to offset it either. So you get a shock of peppermint and the aftershock of bitterness and the sweetness you expect never happens, it was an utter disappointment. I should have said something, it didn’t taste right to me at all.
Chocolate — fortunately chocolate was much better and honestly I don’t like most chocolate yogurt, the flavors commonly used taste very artificial. Their chocolate was pretty good, and next to the peppermint it tasted like there wasn’t enough flavor.
