Coyote Blues

Came here for lunch and left unimpressed. Everything about the place was average except for food quality, which was slightly below average.
The staff was okay. It took a while for our food to be served but they did a good job of keeping drinks refilled. I asked a couple questions about the menu (i.e. how much shrimp comes in a shrimp enchilada) and only got «I’m not sure» in response.
The food was below average for a Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge. I would choose Casa la Vida or La Carreta any time over coyote blues. I ordered the steak enchiladas. The enchiladas themselves tasted undercooked and had nearly nothing in them. The steak was served in top and was cooked okay. The sweet tea was pretty delicious though!
Our whole party left in agreement that the restaurant was average, but not worth returning to given all the great options in Baton Rouge.

They continue to serve unique and delicious dishes. I am always a happy and stuffed camper leaving the restaurant.

service was very inattentive, server was barely by our table, only 3 tables in the whole place but still couldn’t get good service. food was mediocre, nachos were burnt. the only positive part was the margaritas. /​: this place has gone down, sadly.

I went there around lunch time and although the server was very nice I think he was new because he really didn’t know anything about any kind of lunch/​drink specials. We got our waters and noticed that around the rim of both of our glasses there was a ring of grease. I know we were drinking out of a straw but it was still gross. So our server got us new glasses of water and our problem was fixed. The salsa was really good but unfortunately I think that was one of the best things I ate. After reading some of the other reviews I realized that I guess that they don’t bring the green salsa anymore (or they forgot to bring it.) because we only got the red one so I guess I’ll never know if it was good or not. I ordered the chicken fajita quesadillas and they were good but not delicious or amazing. My friend had the grilled shrimp tacos which were good, they weren’t horrible or anything but nothing that I ate gave me reason to come back and want to try anything else from here or reorder anything that I got. I mean with so many other places like Tio Javi’s and Superior there’s really no need to come back here and eat mediocre food.

We have had good experience at Coyote Blues before, so it is entirely possible that our experience on this visit was an aberration. The original, unedited review is below:
A combination of overpriced food and poor service made for a disappointing outing.
We were seated promptly but then had to wait a long time to place our order. We ordered steak and chicken fajitas for 2 at a cost of $ 31. We received only a single, thinly sliced chicken breast and an equal amount (perhaps 5 ounces, but that’s probably generous) of steak. Since the protein in Mexican food is the only thing that has any real cost, being skimpy with it is especially disappointing. It would have been the proper amount of meat for a single order at about half the price.
Among the problems:
The side of beans was cold. When I pointed this out to the waiter, I was met with a blank stare. He didn’t offer to bring out more or take them back for reheating.
The guacamole was «zingy», and not in a good way.
The cheese was old, with the edges of the shreds hard.
The rice was barely warm, and although it’s usually a high point of eating here, today it was lacking in flavor.
The tortillas were very thick; obviously not freshly made. You can get better ones at Walmart.
Although I finished my iced tea quite early in the meal, our waiter never refilled it. Only when he brought the check and I asked did he do so, and then he filled the glass with tea but did not refill the ice, bringing me back a glass of warm tea with a couple of ice cubes from the previous serving floating in it.
In summary, there are numerous options for Mexican food in Baton Rouge ranging from high-​end like Superior on Government to low-​end like La Tiendita on Siegen and many in-​between like Mi Padres and Las Palmas with locations all over town. All provide better value than Coyote Blues.

2 for 1 margaritas and a waitress with one boot on! Coyote blues had ORGASMIC gumbo and a fantastic interior design. Probably the fastest I’ve ever had my food cooked and placed in front of me out of any restaurant in Baton Rouge. Will fo sho be coming back if I don’t get arrested on the way home. Turn up!

I LOVE mexican food, what I don’t love is everyones interpretation of how it should taste. Food in general should taste good, flavors mesh and what not, this place not so much. Our visit started out with our (very slow) server bringing us chips and salsa, red and green sauce. The green sauce tasted identical to Ninfas. We ordered, the boyfriend asked a few questions since they had a small and large burrito listed on the menu and a very non descriptive answer was given about how she could barely eat all of one. He ended up ordering the burrito, but was not pleased. The flavors did not mesh well at all. The beef was seasoned nicely, but the cheese melted on top was a sharp cheddar instead of a jack blend and the con carne sauce was just wrong for both, although I could not nail down why it didnt belong. I ordered the fajitas, probably the highest price for fajitas in town. It was a steak and chicken combo and you got 5 strips of chicken and 4 of steak for $ 17. It was alright on the tortilla with cheese and sour cream and salsa, but I had a few strips of chicken left over that I was going to eat by themselves and couldn’t. There was some kind of fake smoke flavor that just made it not desirable.

Okay, so, we had to go to Gonzales for the outlet mall tonight and since we came this far I wanted to go to Trader Joes and rule of thumb is never go to the grocery hungry.
This place is located almost literally right around the corner from Trader Joes. Nice building and the typical college employees.
I saw when we walked in that it was happy hour until 9 on Mondays! Yay go me. Asked the server what was included and he told me happy hour ended at 3 or something like that. So, I told him the board says otherwise. He said he would go ask if I wanted him to… Well, yes, I surely would like you to. I was going to have a drink either way but why not two for one. So he comes back and says yes happy hour until 9pm and tells me what’s included. I ordered the sangria.
As I am waiting on my drinks and looking over the menu and notice my boyfriends menu is missing pages I start to wonder if we made the right choice by coming here… I hate when I get this feeling.
Salsa is bland and the chips are nothing special. I didn’t expect anything special after all it is a chain restaurant. We both ordered taco salads because we figured it’s kinda hard to mess up a taco salad and I was starting to enter the *hangry* stage of hunger, having not eaten a single thing except diet coke all day if you count that.
The reason this review gets 3stars was definitely for the taco salad. Would have been four of the hostess was spending less time on her phone and more time greeting customers hello and goodbye. (Pet peeve: if you can’t say thank you and come again it really rubs me the wrong way).
Anyways back to the salad… Pork carnitas was delicious! I was honestly shocked when I took my first bite. It was so tasty. Jeff had the chicken taco salad and his was good but mine was better. I just knew this place was gonna be a bust but I was pleasantly surprised.
Price point was good too. Coke, two for one sangria and two taco salads was $ 35 before tip. If in the area again I would definitely swing in for that taco salad again.

Slow service. Guacamole appetizer had shredded lettuce added as filler. Atmosphere is quite noisy, making dining with friends less enjoyable. $ 4 margaritas are really small.

This place really has potential to be a really awesome Mexican restaurant. But unfortunately; the service is greatly lacking. We got here at 12:00, and the time is not 12:27, and the waiter has only given us our drink orders only. Has not checked up on us, nor has the waiter given us napkins or the additional sauce he said he was going to give us. This is the third time I’ve had horrible service here. If you are planning on coming here, be ready for a LONG wait, and for the waiter to get your order wrong. The seating area is nice, and the meat is good, however, the service really ruins it for me. Not coming back. Given them too many chances to make it right.

How do you write a review? Doesn’t everyone have thoughts about every place they go? What makes my thoughts better than anyone else’s? Should you listen to me? Heed my advice? Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, I love to eat, y’all. I would do almost anything for the perfect meal and service. Seriously. Shit has gotten weird before.
Anyway, I had a great time and a great meal at Coyote Blues. They were busy so we sat in the bar. The guy with dreads is Eric. He was our server/​bartender. He killed it. The best service I’ve had at a restaurant in a very long time. This guy was attentive, courteous, and funny. Basically he allowed us to feel like we were in a fun environment but also made sure he did his job as well as any professional I’ve seen. We will definitely be going back.

Have only been here for lunch; never for dinner or happy hour. No alcohol/​margaritas sampled by me here yet. So this is a lunch review only — I find lunch busy and loud but the staff is professional and efficient — you can get in and out quickly so this is a great lunch place in that regard. When they first opened here I do not think they had a lunch menu — you order off the regular menu and your portions were huge — doggie bag time for lunch — -thereafter, a «lunch» menu appeared with the standard offerings. I find the price to be a little more than what you receive however taste and flavor is top notch. Most of the time I order the steak fajitas — they give you a small plate and 2 or 3 tortillas which is not sufficient and makes it difficult to maneuver your fajita building. The steak is good however and their cajun flair is accomplished by providing some sort of garlic butter to accompany the fajitas.

The food was good but a little over priced. I had the crawfish and shrimp burrito. It was delicious but doesn’t come with a side. We also had the guacamole. It was nice and fresh. For desert we had the bread pudding. Good and sweet but seemed like it just came out of the microwave. Overall it was good but a little over priced.

I was in town for a few days and I stopped here for lunch. Better than ninfas! I had the chicken enchilada and a chicken taco with charro beans and rice. It was absolutely delicious!!! I wish I could have brought some food back home with me!

I have never experienced the Cajun/​Mexican fusion until today. I always thought it sounded a bit strange to be honest but it surprised me! We had a very friendly and knowledgeable server named Jared. I would recommend the shrimp and crawfish burrito, it was delicious. I’m always up to try something at least once so I would recommend you to do the same if you are near here.

It’s not what it used to be Ordered the steak fajitas. The portion was significantly smaller and the meat was tougher. Also ordered the Shrimp and Grits. It was cold and grits sub par. The only positives were that they had friendly service and great bar drinks. Top shelf margarita and Chardonnay were perfect.
Overall …it’s an okay place. Maybe try them for lunch.

I feel they have dishes you can’t get at other restaurants. I’ve always ordered the smoked duck tacos or the smoked duck quesadillas with the blueberry/​raspberry chipotle sauce. The flavor is amazing. The meat with sweet fruit sauce is like Tex Mex meets Thanksgiving! The service isn’t ever memorable good or bad.

«Great for groups, social environment, good food». I was not extremely thrilled with this restaurant. The chips and guacamole sauce dip were great. I ordered the garden salad with fried oysters. Unfortunately, the oysters were not fresh and I ended up getting sick. Fortunately, the up-​side was that it was kids eat free night, so my daughter go to eat free with my food purchase. I am not saying I will not try the place again, but I was seriously not impressed. There are other Tex-​Mex places in the area that I am more excited to visit, so it will be awhile until I visit this place again. I go to a restaurant in hopes of having a great experience. It was pretty sad because for a lively place that this seemed to be, the servers were not overly friendly nor energetic… they seemed tired and not eager to be working.

I’ve enjoyed coyote blues in my previous experiences, however, this time was different.
My company had planned and reserved a room for a lunch party a week ago. The reservation was made months in advance. We had a large group (40 – 50), and we arrived at the time we reserved (12:30).
Our room was not ready. As a large group waiting, we crammed ourselves into the bar and hostess area. The hostess was rude and at one time said to one of our party «um, could you like, not stand there?»
We got to our room about 30 minutes late. The entire place, aside from us, was only filled to about 10% capacity. (So, not busy) it took a very long while to get a server to come give us chips and salsa… Even longer after that for drink orders. Several of our group walked to the bar for a water or another drink. Finally a server came to take drink orders. Waited and waited again. A bartender came in with a huge tray of drinks, placed them in the corner, and left.
Our server allowed the drinks to sit there for quite a while, many frozen drinks half melted by the time one of our staff got up to start distributing them herself.
Eventually, server started taking our orders. We had pre set menus for our party printed on paper, so we just started circling our choices and passing our papers to shorten the process. Still didn’t help a lot. An hour later, we started getting some entrees. I think we had two servers for our entire group. Still no one had come to check on our drinks.
The food tasted pretty good. A few of our party had already left so I packed up their food and took it home with me, placed immediately in the fridge.
A few hours later– complete GI distress. Communicated with several of my group who experienced the same. Fed the leftovers to my husband for dinner… Same thing. Complete GI distress.
Though the food tasted good and had good basic presentation, the lack of preparation, poor attitude of the hostess and servers, and lack of adequate staff to accommodate the group left me angry enough to get on Unilocal and loud cap them– absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable.
As for the GI issues, that’s a big problem.
Wont be back.

Coyote Blues is one of the recommendations that I found via Unilocal and through a friend who lived in Lafayette before. Let’s just say that Coyote Blues feels like a Chili’s or a Buffalo Wild Wings, but in a subdued manor — at least the ambiance was anyway. I was staying nearby at the Radisson hotel and needed dinner on a brisk Thursday night, 01÷09÷14. It was about 8:30pm and it was either this place or TJ Ribs, also nearby as well. I am glad that I made the right decision. While the service was slowing down due to the restaurant closing at 10pm, it was still great to dine here and be alone with my thoughts — especially when you are going to run a marathon or two within the coming days. Gotta get the head straight along with fueling the body as well.
Coyote Blues restaurant is located in Baton Rouge, off I-​12 on South Acadian Thoroughway. The quietness of the restaurant gave me pause, but in a good way. I was escorted in and shown one of the booths, which was great. The server gave me time to select my drink, which I gotten a Heineken and a water before ordering my food. As aforementioned before, the service was slow, but fast enough where I got in and out of there in about an hour. I ultimately ordered the Angus Burger, which turned out to be pretty delicious and satisfying at the same time. The taste was soothing and downright great, as well as messy to boot. It came with a side of French fries, but I didn’t get any dessert thereafter. I had been eyeing their white chocolate bread pudding on their menu, but it just wasn’t in the cards.
Coyote Blues restaurant has its own parking lot, although I walked it over from my hotel. Could’ve driven, but it didn’t end up that way. They take credit cards, which was awesome, as always. The experience was nice and typical. I am glad that I stayed away from the dinner rush and had a quiet time here. The burger was cooked medium and I had A-​1 sauce with my French fries. The combination of that with the beer was heavenly. Couldn’t have it any other way. Overall, I would say that this place is typical of any fast food chain, although I would likened it to Chili’s or Buffalo Wild Wings. Not sure if this place is a major chain or not, but who knows. The food here is typical, but sinfully good.
Do yourself a favor and get on here.
