Slow foods and local bussinesses along with Unilocal had this event at the Burden center located off of Essen lane. If you have never been here you have got to check it out. The event was outdoors and tables were decorated with lovely large sunflowers. The vendors included Buinn 77 and indie plate to name a few. NedaArt was on had offering the kids a local face painting. The event offered samples and slow food put their all into it to create an amazing event that I’m already waiting to go back to. Hopefully they do it again at the Burden center.

I am a fan of all things that showcase local in Baton Rouge. So, this event is right up my alley! This year(hopefully it will stay at this location), it was set at the Burden Center. The sights were picturesque and plenty of room for the kiddos, who attended the event, to run around. Family-friendly… yes, this definitely was, and kids under 12 were free! It was calm, serene and the weather was plain perfect for this outdoor shindig. It was a garden party, indeed! Various restaurants were represented featuring chefs that knew Southern cuisine and where to properly source ingredients keeping it Louisiana grown and made. Craft cocktails made by area mixologists and bartenders, one being award winner John Morris from Sidebar/Bin 77 and desserts made by Les Amis Bake Shoppe. I have to say I was a tiny bit jealous of the kiddos, who got to roast hot dogs over the open flames; now that looked like a hoot! I enjoyed dishes creatively prepared by executive chefs and their sous chefs. Participating restaurants were: Magpie Café, Tallulah(inside the Renaissance) and Table Kitchen and Bar, just to name a few. Local grocery delivery company — IndiePlate — was also there to answer questions about Louisiana-sourced ingredients and to meet fellow guests. I am huge supporter in the Slow Food movement and I would love to see this event continue in the years to come. So, get out there and support your local chapter: . Tune-in for their various events, socials and educational seminars.

I always have a blast volunteering for Slow Food Heat. There is a lot involved with active members of the community helping out, and local farmers and restaurants coming together for one event that supports sustainable, local, in season farming! I absolutely cannot wait for the event next year and watching it grow! The musical entertainment was great, and so was the gift basket that was donated by Indie Plate, Ninos, and Red Stick Spice!

This was our 1st slow food event & I was pleasantly surprised. The other night I was watching Chef’s Table(episode 2) on Netflix about the brain-child of farm on the table, a chef in Hudson Valley NY. Chef Don Parker & his quest to unite the synergistic connection between our food to its origin. He even had the foresight to design taste into a vegetable from engineering the best soil. I was inspired to attend the function & see the micro herbs & veggies topped on several of the entrée teasers. Every dish was a party in my mouth, the drinks were festive & catered to the season, the band’s were lively & the crowd was a blend of the BR socialites who truly can appreciate a good dish. It was quite an entertaining night & the venue was top notch. I can’t believe I have not visited the botanical gardens & burden center in the past 2 years I’ve been here in BR. This is an event worth looking foward to all year long. As an elite member, I would have to say it was one of the tastiest events all year & a fun night for the Unilocal krew, I only wish we had more Unilocal friends in attendance. My son enjoyed talking to the chefs about their inspiration, the technique & ingredients that went into each signature dish. They had face painting for kids & s’mores over a campfire. It was a great night, I don’t care if y’all have to save up all year long for this but it is the place to be on a cool perfect fall evening.
