Specialties

Gilley’s Gallery, established in 1978, is the premier site for finding Louisiana art. We specialize in 19th and 20th Century Louisiana oils, watercolors, and fine prints, with an emphasis in the work of Clementine Hunter, Louisiana’s most famous female artist. Whether you’re looking for scenes of the Vieux Carre or Acadian cabins, steamboats on the Mississippi or pirogues on the bayou, you’ll find it at Gilley’s Gallery.

Gilley’s also carries an equally impressive selection of American and Southern Regional art, European oils, 20th Century Mexican art, Native American portraits by McKenney & Hall and E. S. Curtis, and one of the country’s largest selections of fine prints by John James Audubon. Please call or email if you have any questions about works you see or works you’re looking for.

Gilley’s offers in-house custom framing to preserve fine prints, artists’ originals, and investment quality art using conservation and museum standard glass with the highest quality mats.

History

Established in 1978.

Gilley’s Gallery & Framing was founded by Shelby R. Gilley in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a mission of specializing in Louisiana art and artists. Gilley began representing the work of Clementine Hunter, whom he had the opportunity to meet in 1970. The culmination of that friendship and business relationship eventually lead the way to his book «Painting By Heart» about the life and art of Clementine Hunter. His ardent and passionate love of art and Louisiana history and dedication to family and friends are his legacy. Through the hard-work of his sons, Gilley’s Gallery remains a premier source for Louisiana folk and outsider art as well as being one of the largest collections of John James Audubon collector quality prints.
