Great food and great service! Only gave 4 stars because the seating is right on top of one another.

Our first visit to this Baton Rouge classic. When we first entered it was kind a like stepping back to the 60s. The environment and décor we’re great. There was a guy playing music in the back of the dining room, who was spot on. His music set the mood. Our waitress was telling us that the president of the US had just paid a visit a month before. She was very enthusiastic and gave helpful suggestions about the menu. My wife had the gumbo and was thrilled she said it was perfect. I had a fried catfish platter that was good but not great. The iced was great. And as I said the atmosphere was great.

I went to Poor Boy Llyod’s for a lunch break with some co-​workers. The staff was very nice and helpful! The restaurant felt very homely and relaxed. The check out man was awesome, and gave us peppermints as we payed (so simple, but very nice). The only thing i wish was different would be that the «poor boys» or «po boys» would come with a side dish. Therefore, i ordered the catfish plate that came with an order of french fries (which was tasty). Otherwise i was very pleased with my visit.

Po-​Boy Lloyd’s is a Baton Rouge tradition. It is locally-​owned, family-​operated, and has more character and history than almost any other place downtown. They, of course, have great po-​boys, as their name would suggest. They also always have a couple of tasty home-​style plate lunches, with a choice of sides. You can also explore the menu, where there are hidden jems, like the open-​faced roast beef sandwich, drowned in great gravy, and topped with fries (yum). There are also tasty seafood salads, for the diet conscious.
On a weekend evening, one can have a beer and listen to local musicians. It’s a good choice for dinner on any evening, I like to stop in after attending other downtown events. There’s even a couple of tables out front where one can watch the sun set on the River while dining, and that is an experience worth having!

Over rated. I had a poor boy sandwich, some onion rings, and a soft drink. It cost over $ 16! The sandwich was dry and nearly tasteless, the onion rings were limp and tasteless also. Way too many options in downtown BTR to settle for this dive.

Decent poboys, red beans & rice and catfish. Very friendly service.
I had the worst salad of my entire life there. It was just a handful of finely shredded lettuce (like the kind you’d put on a poboy) and diced tomatoes (like the kind you’d put on a poboy). I don’t even know why it’s on the menu.
I will go back, but I’ll avoid the «some poboy condiments in a bowl» salad.

First time here, and the food is just ok, nothing to write home about. I got the shrimp poboy and it was just that, a plain ol shrimp poboy no extra umph. The shrimp were small with no real seasoning or taste to them, I had to add hot sauce and ketchup to give a taste with a kick. The mississippi mud cake/​pie was subpar, I could have bought a frozen chocolate pie from Wal-​Mart. This place is not bad, the food just isn’t seasoned to my taste.

I was referred here by a police officer that was working near where I was staying. Now I come here a lot. I love their breakfast and the family like atmosphere here. Always get the ham and cheese omelet.

It is a great feeling when you are traveling in a new city and you come across a spot where the locals eat. I am glad my friends and I got to Poor Boy Lloyd’s before the lunch rush. We grabbed a table in the quaint, wicker and fruit-​printed eating area and demolished our po’boys. I got the crawfish one and it did not disappoint. The breading on the crawfish was crispy and satisfying. I would have liked a bit more seasoning and maybe a side dish, but on the whole, it was a great lunch. Very inexpensive. Just fyi, you order your food at the register and then head to a different register after your meal to pay.

Great out of the way spot worth checking out. Wide variety of menu and a friendly staff make the place great to swing in and get a quick bite.

2 stars based on wait time. Over an hour for 2 po-​boys and a kids grilled cheese. That is unacceptable service. The woman taking orders completely ignored me when I went to check the status of the order. But there was a nice man, Joe, who helped get our food. After all that, the food was just ok. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. But Definetely not worth an hour wait. I’ll pass in the future.

A local favorite, downtown institution. Amazing hot roast beef poor boy! Also shrimp poor boy!

I go here often for a hot lunch.
Po boys are straight up great.
Greens are soul food quality.
Atmosphere…well not much there unless you like grandmas living room decorated in the early 70s.
I wouldn’t dare to look in the know then but what hits the table is good, hearty and usually served with a smile.

Ever had the moment when you suddenly craved for a classic NOLA-​style poboy but don’t want to drive all the way there (or are already on your way departing there)? Poor Boy Lloyd’s is there to solve that craving!
Aside from the retro looking diner exterior, the first thing that I remembered about this restaurant was when the smiling blond cashier poked her head out from the entrance panel and greeted, «Hi there!» I was there to only check the menu out of curiosity, but perhaps that friendly greeting convinced me to return during lunchtime on the same day.
Oh, and the menu too. The average poboy price of $ 7 is pretty tempting.
The menu had many poboys like rabbit poboy but I had my eyes on the shrimp poboy already. The shrimp poboy did not disappoint! I was happy with the amount of fried corn-​breaded shrimp in the sandwich, and the mayo certainly helps. It’s a simple poboy, and it’s done right!
Like I said, if you are suddenly carving a NOLA-​style poboy, look no further! This southern homely diner with the staff full of southern hospitality also serve breakfast along with many other items despite the restaurant name, so mark this a downtown Baton Rouge restaurant destination especially if you are looking for an inexpensive lunch.

I love this place. It’s simple food served by a friendly staff (and on most days there is at least one person with an authentic cajun accent). For lunch or dinner I always have the shrimp po’boy. They remind of the ones I enjoyed as a kid in Galliano, LA. Nice amount of lightly seasoned fried shrimp, mayo, shredded lettuce, & tomato on the perfect style po’boy french bread. I suggest you try adding pickles for the perfect po’boy taste treat!
Breakfast here is simple, good and inexpensive considering the downtown location. If you are in the area give them a try.

Whewww, talk about some tasty Po’ Boys. I stopped by by total chance and I left wanting to take a few sandwiches home. The place is cozy but the service makes you feel like you’re back at home and having a home cooked meal. I tried the shrimp Po’ boy with potato salad and it was blast full of flavor.
They also had some live music going. Granted it was a keyboard, the fella singing had me singing some Soul music. Good stuff.

Sometimes sampling food at a local hang isn’t what you were hoping for. And so it was with Poor Boy Lloyd’s. Overall the food was fine, the atmosphere friendly & relaxed, and the prices were reasonable. But so many restaurants make great Cajon food that Lloyd’s pales in comparison.
Expectations aside, you’ll have great service and get good food (albeit a little lackluster). We went for dinner and most all the food was fried. I had étouffée over rice (you can also get it over catfish) and fried crawfish, along with a side of potato salad. At first the étouffée tasted flavorful but as the meal continued it just seemed bland. Adding some hot sauce kicked it up enough to make it enjoyable.
A friend order the red beans and rice. Same thing as my étouffée — a good start but bland after awhile.
For dessert we split their Mississippi Mud. Again I was hoping for more, but it was just some kind of pressed crust (almond?) with a layer of chocolate pudding and cool whip on top. Not satisfying!
When we received the bill there were no prices marked! You have to take it to the register and have them figure it out. It was easier for them to just divide the haphazardly arrived at total by 3 (the number in our party) than give us individual totals. Sigh…
If you know what you’re getting at Lloyd’s then you’ll like it. But if you’re like me hoping for a fun, local restaurant experience then you’ll probably be let down.

Came here for a Poboy while I was in Louisiana — Something I was told I obviously had to try. So I Unilocaled places in Baton Rouge where I was staying for the Louisiana Marathon. This place got good reviews.
The décor felt a bit dated and the little candy shop was odd placed. Maybe I am just not used to something like this — but I had not seen it before. My mom and I came here for dinner one night and we both enjoyed our food. I also had red beans and rice and it was really good.
The service was super friendly and the entertainment was great. I wish I could remember his name but he was performing all evening and he was such a hoot. His entertainment made our dinner even better.
