The cornbread was good. The sliced brisket I got was completely dried up. Really disappointed.

Nah. It’s franchise style BBQ at it’s finest if you’re into that. I live in the neighborhood and have been wanting to try some local BBQ being recently relocated from my home in Texas. But when I walked in on a Friday evening and there are only 2 other customers there — at the bar — I should’ve known. I ordered the carnival to-go. They brought it to me dine-in by mistake, but when I saw the portion I immediately ordered another entrée. I’d been studying ALL day and was a starving graduate student, 5’6″ 170 lbs soaking wet. Just to illustrate that I’m somewhat average. So glad I ordered a second meal. The seasonings are excellent but dry run bbq can quickly get very boring. Anywho I finished the carnival and will attempt this po’ boy while I crack open another textbook. If you know of any bbq places in br that frequently close early on weekends because they run out of meat, please let me know.

The food was good. I ordered take out and when I arrived my food wasn’t ready at the time I asked. The food portions were small but the price wasn’t. The flavored blended but nothing stood out as being something I would go back for. I waited forever for my food and the order was wrong. They tried to make it up by giving me a coupon for a free beer but I my experience just won’t result in my return.

My fave is the sauce. That’s what makes it. Pulled pork is good and tender and the brisket was also very good… But it’s the sauce that makes it! As far as sides, the beans are very thick and sweet, and the Mac and cheese is very creamy and velveeta-y.

Ordered sliced brisket platter. They brought it out chopped. Paid a $ 2.00 up charge for it. They asked if it was ok, to which I said No. The waitress just said«sorry» and walked away without offering to correct it or ask if I wanted something different. Ugggghhh. Terrible service.

I was in there one night with several people before our cajun dance class. It was a «busy» night for them as several members of a 4-H club had taken over the restaurant. My friend ordered first and she ordered a baked potato. Next I ordered a potato too. Then several 4-Her’s ordered their food, followed by the rest of our group. We find a table and they bring out everyone’s food but mine. The guy delivering the food asked what I got, and then says«Oh I think we ran out of those.» He goes to check and comes back to let me know. He asks what I want instead and at this point I’m hungry, flustered, and slightly upset, and my entire table except me is almost done with their food. I tell him just a side of mac and cheese and a side of fries(I’ve never been there before so I really can’t order off the top of my head). He makes zero attempt to refund me the rest of the cost of the potato, never even offered too, barely apologized, so i paid close to $ 9 for a $ 5 worth of sub par food.

The service at Voodoo was excellent — friendly, fast and attentive. However, the food left much to be desired on this trip. I ordered a Big Easy meat platter with«the carnival», and selected macaroni and cheese and baked beans for my sides. The carnival is a great concept — a mix of chopped chicken, sausage, pulled pork, and brisket tossed in bbq sauce. Some of the meat in the mix was tough and didn’t seem as fresh. My sides were warm, but under seasoned. I would give them another try, but hope it’s much better next time. They are very conveniently located next to LSU on Nicholson.

As we continue our journey through BBQ, I landed upon the shores of Nicholson Drive to friendly confines of Voodoo. As some of you know, I’ve recently been on a mission to find the BBQ that will satisfy my cravings for smoke, flavor and tenderness. Unfortunately(or fortunately), my trek must go on. I had the half rack of baby back ribs on this occasion. While the tenderness was there(the meat came completely off, leaving a clean bone in my wake), I didn’t catch the smokiness that I was looking for. Another thing that bothered me was too much spice. I’m not sure what they were using because I couldn’t pinpoint one particular flavor, but whatever it was… was too much. It was a mélange of spicy and savory that just didn’t work. Rather than being a partner with the victual, it overpowered it and left a taste more dirty than savory. They provide 3 types of BBQ sauce. One is traditional but not special. One is mango/Crystal(I think), which is just Crystal hot sauce and mango. I love Crystal hot sauce, but not on BBQ. The third offering is labeled vinegar something something. Yes. It’s vinegar. No. Thank you. While not unsatisfied, I will have to bow to the exhortations of my friends regarding Voodoo BBQ and say that it is not the end of the line when it comes to BBQ. They DO have really cheap PBR on draft though(I think $ 1).

The wait was longer than I expected from a bbq establishment, but the food was out of the can fresh. I love bush’s baked beans, pepperidge farm garlic toast, and perfectly cut squares of meat. The only thing better than heating these things at my own house is going someplace else to have it done for me. Which is exactly what this place does.

I’ve been here twice now and have gotten cheese fries(both times) as well as the side plate w/fries, corn pudding, and mac n cheese. The mac n cheese and corn pudding are the best I’ve had in Baton Rouge, hands down! The fries are great as well and better than most places. The first time I tried Voodoo, the cheese fries were dynamite– perfect amount of queso, cheddar, and green onions. When I came back for the cheese fries, they were dry and had no queso, a minimal amount of cheddar, and a small amount of green onions. They were just average and I was pretty disappointed after my first experience! I’m hoping this was just an off experience, and will try the cheese fries again!

Great bbq! Reminds me of texas bbq with a Louisiana flair. The pulled pork baked potatoes are to die for! I know its right off campus but I’m still hoping they will put one on campus one I can get bbq between classes.

Pretty spectacular stuff. Fun atmosphere, great food and beer. Reasonably priced. Desserts are pretty awesome. Pulled pork, brisket, bbq chicken are great! Corn Pudding, YUM. Well worth a wait, if there was one… They’re pretty speedy as well.

Voodoo offers decent BBQ at decent prices with good service and a nice, clean atmosphere. I’m kind of obsessed with the corn pudding and the sweet potato soufflé. So good! Otherwise, I don’t have a ton to say about them, but I’ll definitely be back!

When I mention this place, my boyfriend says Poodoo. We visited and were unimpressed. I’d go again if someone invited me, but otherwise… not on my own suggestion. I had the shrimp poboy — your typical run-of-the-mill one. The bf had brisket & bbq chicken. His comment — «it was ok,» said as he shrugs. Tried the corn pudding based on other Unilocal recommendations. It was actually pretty GOOD! So go to try that if you will.

There are more locations but this one is MUCH better than the other location – by a country mile. WE ate here before an LSU game as it was walking distance and I would rather walk a little bit than pay $ 213 for a hot dog and a coke at Death Valley. The BBQ nachos were good although a little pricey for what you get. The ribs were fabulous – meaty and tender – not those crappy little baby back ribs that cost twice as much for half the meat – big meaty spareribs that had great smoked flavor.

Still remains my go-to place for BBQ in Baton Rouge after living here for 4 years. I only recently tried their potato salad for the first time and I loved it! Don’t know how I’ve eaten here so many times but have never tried the potato salad. Great service and great food — can’t go wrong with that.

I’ve lived right down the block from Voodoo BBQ for over a year and I hadn’t tried it until recently. See, I tend to shy away from places with the word BBQ in their name as I’m allergic to BBQ sauce and I don’t eat swines. Well, I wish I’d gone sooner. The shrimp po’ boy rivals any other in Baton Rouge and it was so huge it took me awhile to figure out how to even eat it. Their fries are delicious as well. And then there’s this thing… O wow, this thing… The sweet potato soufflé. It’s ridiculous. I wish I can eat it everyday! I did take off one star though because on the day I went I was going to have a burger and they were«out» of burgers. This happened to me at another place in the same week which confuses me. When I managed a restaurant, we were never«out» of anything… Someone went to the store and got what we needed. That put a bad taste in my mouth that the sweet potato soufflé had to fix.
