Stop here for a quick bite on Saturday. Upon walking into the restaurant, we were greeted by a young lady. I proceeded to ask her if they were closed because it was very empty in there. She told us that we could sit anywhere. We received the menu and looked it over, everything seem to be what would be on a typical soul food restaurant menu. As a starter we had the chicken popper sampler which consisted of(curry chicken, jerk chicken and a honey chicken – $ 12). Overall, this was ok. Only thing about this starter is that it had a lot of dark meat and a lot of fat on the meat. Our waitress bought us out 2 free cornbread which were really good!!! It was very delicious and moist. For dinner, I had the fried chicken and waffles($ 11.75). I asked if they had breast, she informed me that they only had dark meat and if I wanted to have breast instead of wings it would be $ 3.00 extra. This meal did not come with any sides. My hubby had smothered chicken($ 12.50) which came with two sides. We ordered for sides mac n cheese, candied yam, and collard greens. We also asked if we could have some more corn bread with the meal but we were told it would be(.40) for each. The food overall was not as expected from a soul food restaurant… the food lacked seasoning. The fried chicken and smothered chicken didn’t have much flavor. The mac n cheese needed a bit of salt and more cheese/milk, the yams and green were very good. yummy!!! For a soul food restaurant, I expected better soul food. Overall, the food was ok, service was good. Would I go back, probably not!
