Happy Pet Tails

Agreeing with the review posted by Jon S. from February of this year. Brought my American Eskimo here for grooming today. Normally we use Adriana who is very good but she was not available. Catherine groomed my dog and SHAVED OFF HER COAT! This after thoroughly explaining exactly what we wanted, and it was translated to Spanish to her with many witnesses. Any groomer knows that you never ever shave an American Eskimo. I am praying it grows back but am not hopeful.
Also of note is this place has moved yet a third time to a place on Utopia. And the name has changed… pretty shady operation if you ask me.
There is no management and the owner is in Columbia so really no recourse. At least they refunded my money. I won’t be back.

Permanently ruined my dog. The man who cut her hair ended up shaving off my entire American Eskimo’s top coat, which you DO NOT DO. IT DOESNT GROW BACK. After giving it a few hopeful months and buying expensive vitamins, my previously white and fluffy dog was still pink, bare, and scruffy.
They told us everything was fine when we got her back and then we went back a while later to tell them that it clearly was not fine, and they refused to even speak with us about it. Really disgraceful business; I’ve never had to confront people so shameless and remorseless.
To think, you permanently ruin a dog’s fur and refuse to consider even a measly refund?
3 years passed and her overcoat never returned. My dog is now permanently missing her entire top coat. At least go to a groomer with morals.

This is not my first time bringing my puppy for a cut at Happy Pet tails but every time I’ve brought her there, they have given her a good haircut. The staff is great at giving the haircut that you have asked for. I went there when they were located in Bayside and recently when they relocated to Francis Lewis Blvd. The price for the haircut was $ 60.00 which is what I usually pay even if I take my puppy elsewhere. Happy Pet Tails keep up the good work.

Not sure if this place changed owners when they moved. But my dog isn’t as clean & after his bath yesterday he has a weird lump and he is bleeding from somewhere! Can’t figure out from where yet! Also he’s a very friendly dog & the girl as desk translated to me that the groomer wasn’t able to trim his dew claws cause he kept trying to bite her… Never going back again. This place is now scary!!!

This place does not even deserve a star. but unfortunately I had to put one star to submit the review… they deserve the stuff under the bottom of my shoes… I’m going to start of by saying that this business is not even located on bell blvd anymore… it’s now located on Francis Lewis blvd… right there to me is a huge red flag… I get a call on my cellphone that my dog is done… as I’m speaking to the women over the phone her voice sounds un sure as shes speaking to me, as if something is wrong… she tells me he was difficult, was bad with the blow drier (my dog doesn’t even need to be blown dry and its summer) and tried biting her… i immediately question «that is not my dog, what happened to my dog» …she says nothing just come and get him and help us hold him down to cut his nails… I proceed to rush there because I had a bad feeling… my dog comes out and his eye is swollen, full off puss, watery and blue red and purple… I can’t breath at this point… I’m FURIOUS… the all look confused and say I don’t know what’ happened… I grab my dog and fly to the vet located across the street… they diagnose him as a contusion… well the next day I figure out that it wasn’t just one eye, it was both… then I found out that he has a ring dent in his hair around his neck… I touch it and he was very apprehensive to this and it’s swollen… what does this mean… an idiot can figure this out… they restrained my dog by the neck and STRANGLED MY DOG… instead of doing the right thing and possibly calling me to say they possibly couldn’t handle my dog for whatever reason… they were hung up on 45 dollars and caused this damage to my dog… and the owner obviously does not want to hire experience people, my dog could of died from this… and you have the nerve to take my money after all that… that is disgusting and unbelievable… this place needs to be shut down… point blank… funny as I’m reading other reviews I can’t believe they are still open… INVESTIGATION BEGINS!!!

I am reposting and changing to more stars in hopes this will display for readers more frequently, however I would give them zero stars and they could’t pay me to ever look at one of my dogs again. Bottom line THEY TORTURED MY DOG. Here is the story: I brought my two small dogs here for years and was happy enough with their service. Suddenly one of my dogs had a bad limp after one of her groomings at the end of 2011. She was not using her hind leg at all. I took her to the vet immediately the next morning (in tears) and he said her patella was out of place and gave her some meds and told me she can’t jump or climb too much have her rest that leg for a few days. He said it may or may not have been the groomer she could have mis-​stepped at any point on her own. OK fair, I won’t blame the groomer. When it was time for her next grooming I called to make an appointment and I told them what happened last time and that I needed to bring her at a time when there would be no rush and someone had to groom her who would be very gentle, not push her to sit etc. I was told no problem they groom special needs dogs all the time with bad legs, back etc and was given an appointment, I take her, pick her up and she is DRAGGING BOTH BACK LEGS. I bring her back t the vet hysterical and don’t understand what the issue is. So a few months later she is walking better and my vet referred me to another groomer This groomer offered to make an appointment when she can let me stay thru the entire grooming with my dog. I bring her in, they decide to test parts of the process to see how she behaves. They buzz her fur a little, my dog is totally fine. They cut a few nails, my dog is totally fine. They put her in the sink, my dog FREAKS OUT like she was being murdered. It took 3 adults to hold down my 11 lb dog so we could rinse the shampoo off, the bath never actually happened, we were all soaked, scratched, bleeding and shocked that she put up such a big dog fight. The new groomer explained that they must have been so rough with her at the old groomer that they were injuring her during the bath process and now she was essentially an abused dog terrified of the bath. It really makes my blood boil that I told Happy Pet Tails we were having an issue and they never mentioned that my dog was struggling in the bath and they were forcing her down. HAPPY PET TAILS TORTURED AND TRAUMATIZED MY DOG. The groomers at Pet Menu are AWESOME, save yourself the vet bills and go see them!

My dog leaves there with such anxiety and was never like that at her old groomer in Brooklyn. They said they couldn’t cut her nails because they couldn’t restrain her enough. I also never had that problem with the other groomer or my vet.

My shih tzu, Happy, is usually really scared of going to the groomers. In many cases, he acts out (especially when there is a scissor near his ears). Many times when he came back, he would act very nervous and hide in his kennel for the rest of the day. We switched from our old groomer a while back. Ever since we came to Happy Pet Tails, Happy has been acting out less and less when going to the groomers.
Today, the groomer let me know, that he was very good and didn’t bite anyone! They did take precaution when I told them he was sensitive around his ears. When I picked him up, he was excited and happy to see me. He was clean, there were no knicks on him, his tail was trimmed, and his fur was cut very short and practical for the summer (the look that I asked for).
Happy Pet Tails is a clean and friendly place. There are glass doors so you can watch your pet being groomed. The receptionist is also fast. I brought in Happy and he was taken into the grooming station right away. There is no wait if you have an appointment. I really like this place and will be bringing Happy back!

I bring my dog here to get his nails trimmed, the first time I brought him I had a male groomer who did a good job and I was happy with my experience. The second time, the male groomer either wasn’t there or unavailable (I probably should have gotten his name) but I just asked for anybody that was available since he just needed his nails trimmed. The female groomer that did my dogs nails was nice, but failed to inform me after she was done that she had clipped one of his nails too deep and it started to bleed. Now, I understand that these things happen but the least she could have done was to tell me it happened so I could have taken proper precautions to keep it clean. I probably won’t be coming here again.

After many bad haircuts (are they called haircuts for dogs?), this is the only place I take my 2 dogs to — a pomeranian/​terrier mix, and a shihtzu. and I don’t even live in Bayside. My dogs always come out fresh and clean, and really well groomed. I’m always surprised too, b/​c I know my dogs can be difficult, but I guess whoever is handling them really knows how to do their job. I’m actually really bad at remembering the groomers’ names, so I never know who’s actually doing the grooming, but I have never had any problems.

This was my go-​to groomer in the area. Took my dog there a few times and had a groomer I really liked. Until the last time i booked the appt, asking for Christina (the groomer) they said the only time she’s available was 2pm– but by the time I got there, they gave my dog to another groomer without explaining why until I asked where’s Christina. All I got was she no longer worked there. Within a day from making the appt, they did not have the courtesy to tell me up front that who I booked, no longer works there. Fine, I’ll let that pass.
My dog was assigned to Isabel– and a young lady came out to pick up my dog, saying Isabel is busy inside and she’s picking up for her. Later when I picked up my dog, it was actually this young lady who did the grooming– not only was both sides unevenly cut– but by the time i took her home and clean her up after a walk– I found a cut near her rear end. It was a bad cut that caused bleeding. That explained why she came home so irritated and frightened!!!
There were times I found a nail left untrimmed or the ears are not entirely cleaned with wax still dangling– fine– but to injure a dog at the rear– that just shows horrible training and skills. The woman never introduced herself. After this experience, I highly question their professional skills in grooming and handling a dog with care. It was definitely the last time there.

I use to be a huge fan of Happy Pet tails but no more. I’ve taken my Maltese there a handful of times, but I feel like the level of service is deteriorating. The last time I took my dog there, the groomer just didn’t look pleased to do her job. Upon dropping off my dog and walking out the door, I could have sworn it looked like she was complaining to another groomer.
What really deters me from going back there, is that when I picked him up, his eyes were still dirty and I noticed a couple of nicks/​cuts around his groin area… unacceptable!

We have been bringing my 3 dogs to Happy Pet Tails for a year now. I was referred by a friend who was extremely satisfied with the way her dog had been groomed there for years, until he went to the rainbow bridge. She now brings her new poodle there and that was good enough for me.
We have 2 Yorkies and a Havanese. Christina and Katherine have been grooming the dogs and doing an excellent job. I highly recommend this grooming place.
I even applaud the receptionist, Crystal, she always makes us feel welcome. They do their best to accommodate you and do not let your dog sit in a cage all day. They start grooming the doggies as soon as you bring them there and call you as soon as they are finished. The store is kept immaculately clean and you can tell that the groomers truly love the dogs.
I highly recommend them. A+++

I no longer go here anymore. I brought my dog here several times. I was ok w/​how they groomed my dog most of the time, but I have to say the 2 things that got me to stop coming here:
(1) My dog got FLEAS after his last visit here last Summer. And I know he didn’t get it from outside b/​c he rarely goes outside (try as I might to walk him when it’s nice out, he absolutely hates being outdoors more than a few mins & keeps tugging his leash towards the road back home, so I rarely walk him anymore). I had to spend some moolah to get him some flea-​killing meds asap. Not to mention furiously vaccuuming my house & doing loads of laundry, in really hot water. And the countless showers I took myself b/​c I got the heebie jeebies.
(2) The counter girls were very nice, but I swear the last time I went there to pick-​up my dog, I overheard her insulting me in Spanish to a guy who was @the counter w/​her (I guess she didn’t realize I could understand a little). And when I looked at her, she just smiled. wtf?
Never again!

Before I go into the review, I need to emphasize that I did not have a chance to get my dog groomed here, so this bad review is not about how Happy Pet Tails treated my pet. With that being said, this review is more about their service issues and the image they portrayed to their customers. I don’t understand how this place can be a «happy» place for pets if the girl answering the phone is not only unfriendly, but also incompetent and arrogant. It seems the place is too busy to even care about my business.
I called yesterday to make an appointment for next week. The girl sounded very rushed and kept on putting me on hold. After finally settling an appointment for next week and hanging up the phone, I immediately realized I could take my dog in the next day instead. I quickly called back and checked availability for the next day. The girl assured me there’s an opening at 1PM. I quickly switched my appointment to the next day at 1PM. After re-​confirming with the girl on the phone, she assured me I am all settled for the revised appointment. Again, the entire time she sounded like she is super busy and just trying to get me off the phone as soon as possible.
The next day, I took my dog in at 1PM only for her to tell me that she does not have me booked. She even blatantly admitted that she remembered talking to me yesterday on the phone. However, she did not adjust the appointment and she could not accommodate me b/​c the groomers were all booked. She did not offer any sort of apology at all and proceeded to talk to me as if I was the one at fault.
Judging from this initital encounter, I would never take my pet back there again. I am actually very happy this happened b/​c this makes me realize that Happy Pet Tails could not be trusted judging how they treated their customers. I would expect there is no love and care for the pets being brought there for their services.

Pros– this place is really clean and I like the see-​through window that separates you from the grooming area. The place looks very well-​maintained and the owner seems to be big on detail. The staff seems friendly and helpful.
Cons– my issues with this place is probably more personal and I really don’t think it’d apply to most groomers working there but I still feel like I need to post them. The first time I took my miniature Schnauzer there, the groomer I had accidentally cut his ear very slightly. I wasn’t too happy about it, especially when the groomer mentioned that if it wasn’t for my dog moving around so much. I decided to let it go, because there were things I really liked about the place. The second time I took my pup there, I had a younger woman as the groomer and I told her I wanted a short cut (come on, we’re in a recession). The groomer ended up cutting so much of the fur in some areas (down to skin practically) that it didn’t look like it was possible to fade those areas into the rest of the fur. Like on the belly area of my Schnauzer, there were fur lines like farm crop division lines. I was not told of this, and I only noticed when I got home.
Like I mentioned, my experience might be just due to inexperienced groomers I happened to get. This place is really busy, and I think they might’ve let a few not as qualified groomers into the business because of the workload. I’ve heard very good things about this place, and I think if you land yourself a good groomer there, you should definitely stick with the place for all the reasons I liked about it.
UPDATE: I’ve decided to give the place another try to see if it was just a few bad apples I came across. Like what I suspected, they do have experienced groomers and I was very satisfied with the groom my third time around. I’m going to stick to the groomer I liked by name from now on.

The only place I bring my Shih Tzu, Benji. He love it and always come out looking Fresh to Death. lol
The price for grooming is $$ for me but based on other I went to (which my Benji and I hated)… those $$ prices seem to be the norm.
Great Staff and I trust them with my Benji. this place is a must for cat & dog lovers!

Even dogs have their days (of grooming) and my Westie is no exception.
This is a friendly, dog-​loving, clean place to get your dog groomed. Everyone knows their «clients» names and once you become a regular, it’s only $ 25 for a wash and a manicure for your pooch.
More expensive if you want to get a cut, but it’s worth it because never have I seen my doggie come out of there scared, or listless or with a wacko haircut.
