Meet the Business Owner

Laura M.

Business Owner

Laura McAlhaney, wife/business partner of Beaufort native Matt McAlhaney, saw an immediate need for a coffee house in Beaufort’s historic district that combined hip, urban sensibility with coffee and espresso offerings that even the most sophisticated java connaisseur could appreciate. Borrowing inspiration from her travels and in particular, her time spent in the coffee capital, Seattle, WA, Laura sought to create an atmosphere that would feel like home for locals and travelers alike. The result was City Java News, anchored by City Loft Hotel, Beaufort’s first and only upscale boutique hotel, also owned by Laura and her husband.
