Carey Custom Floors

I would never recommend Carey Floors. They refinished our floors a few months ago and it was a frustrating and disappointing experience. They NEVER returned calls even though we had signed a contract and had to pre oay. I had to stop by their store several times to get answers to our questions and a confirmation about when they would arrive. As it was someone arrived a week early to do the floors when it was completely inconvenient and we had to reschedule AGAIN!. We gave them a copy of our key as we were going to go out of town when they refinished. They arrived with someone else’s key and couldn’t get in then laughed about the confusion. Our question was who had OUR key? No one seemed to know. The guy who put in the baseboards arrived several times without the proper materials and had to reschedule. Once done our new paint job was chipped in several places and there was a hole in the wall that we had to point out to them. It needed repair that they only did after we asked them to. The floors were ok but with a duller finish than we expected. We were always having to know what questions to ask as they never informed us of anything ahead of time or discussed the process with us. As we were putting things back in place we noticed a large kitchen wall clock was missing. We suspect it was mistakenly taken out with debris. We were given a check for the amount but all along the way they were totally unapologetic about all the frustrations, poor communication and damage. I would never recommend them or use them again.

They ruined my floors, lied to me and blew me off for 6 months and then screwed me out of the settlement I agreed upon. We used them to refinish our floors but they made deep noticeable sanding errors that look terrible. When they were finishing the floor they left thick dark ridges all over the floor, they said they would level out after 3 – 6 months-​they did not. They tried to repair them but were not able to do so, the installer said the person who did this had done it on other floors and had to be fired. I constantly contacted Carey floors and spoke to Evelyn who always said she would speak to them about a resolution and call me back, this went on for 6 months. I finally went in to speak to Jean who said she had never heard anything about the situation. She did get back to me within a week but after I had agreed on a dollar amount for the floor but when the check arrived she had screwed me out of what I had agreed to. These people are liars, and thieves.

Recently remodel and updated kitchen and two bathrooms with this merchant. There are several disappointment would like to address and seems like our experience occurred very similar to as Katie B’s review.
There was differences between before sign the contract and after signed service contract. As if took advantage once signed the contract. One example is, required 50% down payment. Our property has been rigorously updated for last 4 years. Including convert new gas furnace from electric ceiling heating, whole new roof, gutter, and new windows and patio doors. None of the contractors required single penny down payment. After completion of their services and inspection, they requested full payments. However, this merchant requested us to pay full without substantial completion of their service.
Anyone considering remodel probably would seek consultations and do research. Based on consultation and research, we found that remodel service contractor who have own employees tend to complete signed contract service within informed time frame.
The person who convinced us the remodel service contract, informed us that they have their company’s «hired» employees will do all the works not done by sub contractors. It was not true. Most of the work done by sub contractors. Remodel and update took almost five months to complete, and it was mostly one man on the job.
Lack of Communication skill or/​and intended communication in these crowded professional field.
At one time at their showroom floor, unexpectedly experienced dispute between sub contractor and the store’s representative. The sub contractor was at our property to perform sub contract work. I don’t think the dispute was related to our project.
One star for the person who completed bathrooms tile work and kitchen wall back flash. He did really pay attention to detail.

Run the other way as fast as you can. Ruined my hardwood floor, and it was just a refinish with a few board repairs. Went bankrupt in his last business and lots of complaints, and not paying up. So starts a new one in your wife’s name and hopefully no one will know.

I originally wrote my review withholding my real feelings on the matter. I thought because I was stressed out that I was being unreasonable. I learned today that … IT’S not me! So I offer you the following:
Episode 1:
2012
Pro #1: The tile installer named Gino fixed a hard wood installation disaster from another flooring company and Gino installed our tile floor with the precision of a sculptor.
Con #1: When dealing with the owner, good luck. He is argumentative and throws tantrums.
Con #2: He helped Gino grout and I asked if he had grouted under the dishwasher, because I could not see grout. He said he did. I said I don’t see it. He pitched a fit cause he had to pull the dishwasher and what do you know he had not grouted the floor.
Episode 2:
2015
We thought we would try again, because we wanted Gino.
Con #3 The secretary answered said the owner was eating and would call me back when he was done eating. 5 hours later I called him.
Pro #2: He came out to evaluate the job when he said he would.
Con #4: He said now that he is retired he is calmer. No. Nothing has changed.
Con: #5: He said he would call us the next day and did not.
Con #6: When we were selecting options and changed our mind, his wife became annoyed, behaved agitated and was short with us, as if doing business is an inconvenience.
Con #7: They knew what the insurance was going to pay and disregarded our budget and kept pushing toward higher priced items.
Con # 8: I wanted the project done while I was on my vacation. He asked for the key, I said no you don’t need a key, I’ll be there. He said over and over that we did not need to be there, they prefer to work without the homeowner present. We said no. Clearly offended that he will not have free reign of our house he asked again why not?
Con #9: At that point his behavior regressed and moved into creeper mode. His tone was patronizing, demeaning and was disrespectful toward my spouse. At which point my spouse said she was leaving and while walking out the owners wife hollered across the showroom a sarcastic goodbye.
Con #10: Three weeks later he had not worked on the estimate. We politely reminded him we had not heard from him in three weeks and hired someone else.
I really feel strongly about the review below that said RUN! I like to give people 2^nd chances, but in this case it is too much drama. I refuse to hire someone who thinks their choices are better than mine and if I disagree with their business style they try to shame the customer into their way of thinking.
