Joe’s Barber Shop

A good old fashioned haircut is hard to find. Every time I move to a new city, I dread the inevitable series of bad haircuts it seems I must endure as I find the right barber. Moving to Portland was no different, but fortunately I found Joe after only one personal-​worst, disastrous haircut at another popular, beer-​serving local place.
After some necessary regrowth and time, I tried out Joe. I relayed my story and he was honest about how long it would take to fully recover from my bad haircut. I told Joe what I wanted — #2 taper on sides with lower follow up #1 taper, cut the top short enough that it doesn’t stand up since my hair is pin straight. Pretty standard cut for men. Think Craig Ferguson when he’s not trying to do the too-​short, or bed head look. Well, Joe did a great job the first time and I’ve been going to him ever since.
This may be my first ever Unilocal review, but I felt it was important enough that I should provide an honest review:
Save yourself the trouble: go online, make an appt, and be there sharp because Joe cranks these cuts out in 20 minute intervals. He’s a good guy, too.

I tried Joe’s based on the excellent Unilocal reviews and I was not disappointed. I’ve been buzzing my own hair for the last 15 years or so and decided it’s time to go with a little more style. I had no idea what I wanted but Joe gave me some good ideas and went from there. My hair looks great and I’m very happy. His shop is really cool too. There’s a pool table and plush chairs to hang out while waiting. Joe’s really cool to talk to also. I’ll be going to him regularly from now on.

I’ve been getting cuts from Joe every month now for over a year so I wanted to update my comments just to say that Joe is the real deal. I looked for the right place in the Portland area for 20 years and never really found the right combination of professional.
First of all, Joe will remember you. He remembers your cut and he remembers what you talked about last time, and the conversation continues. It’s thoroughly good.
Second, he’s got amazing skills. I don’t know if he’s been asked to do anything too wild. After all, this is Oregon suburbia. But the fades are perfection, and the way he blends and cuts is pure artistry in the sense that the best of you and your unique hair comes out every time. I’ve never seen this anywhere, even through 4 years of the best barberos in LA.
Third, Joe is a good man. he cares, deeply. He’s intelligent, thoughtful, and kind. I look forward to our chats every time.
Fourth, Joe charges less than $ 20 for a world-​class cut. Totally worth the experience and right here in ‘lil old Beaverton.

Been to see Joe twice now, based on the positive feedback from Unilocalers. Efficient and friendly are two adjectives that come to mind about Joe. He absolutely knows how to cut a man’s hair. His set-​up is easy from the appointment booking to the haircut experience itself. That his location is convenient for me and he’s affordable, only enhance my opinion. And finally, he’s a nice man. I foresee being a regular customer of Joe’s for a long time.

As a first time customer I’m glad I gave Joe’s a try. His positve reviews are earned. Joe is a great guy who knows how to cut hair. Early-​arrivals can pass the time in his man cave-​ish shop with a pool table and the game on… not that he’ll keep you waiting long. If you make an appointment, Joe gets you in, cut and on your way pretty quickly and you’ll get your money’s worth. Tip the guy well. He gives a great cut for a fair price and you can afford to.

Joe’s Barbershop is the best place to get a GREAT haircut. Joe works very hard to give you the exact haircut you want. There is only one chair, so his attention is completely focused on you and your cut. His shop is small and cosy, with a television, and a pool table to boot. He even offers online booking, so you don’t have to hang out for an hour before your cut!
You simply cannot go wrong with Joe!

Joe is a stand up guy. Been coming to him for over 5 years. The few unfortunate times that I’ve needed a haircut in a hurry and had to go somewhere else, I’ve ALWAYS been disappointed. Go to Joe, he’ll take care of you.

Im going to college next year and one of the main things Im not going to find any where else is Joe’s barberering skills. This guy is a haircutting guru. Always does super slick fades and pays attention to EVERY detail. Unbelievable precision with beards as well. 20 minutes for a haircut of his quality is something you wont find anywhere else. However not for people that want basic hair cuts that great clips could do.
Definitely got an oldschool feel but I doubt that would be a turn off to anyone. Everything is sanitised and he keeps his shop clean.
Also a really easygoing and genuinely nice guy.
SUMMARY, go to him once, and tell him exactly what you want and I promise you will go back to him from now on.

Joe is such a quality guy; you can’t go wrong. I have been coming to Joe for over 10 years and see no need to go elsewhere. Great haircut with quality conversations make it an easy choice to look sharp and build community. Call him for directions if you’re new to the area, but you can schedule online to make it easy.

I’m from California and I went up to Oregon for Wedding and I needed a haircut so i found this place. Joe was nice but the haircut was sub par for the price. A 20 minute haircut was like $ 18 way overpriced. I get $ 9 haircuts better than that. My barber down in Cali gives me an 1:30 haircut for $ 20 very refined. I made the mistake of not getting a haircut in my hometown before heading up.

Describing the shop in one word would be «AWESOME»
Joe pays attention to detail, listens closely to your request, and completes the job in a timely manner. What else would you want.

After living away from Oregon for 10 years, it’s exciting to be back home. In recent years our career took us to Chicago, Orlando, Salt Lake City and St George. In each of those areas one of the biggest challenges was finding a good barber.
Returning to Oregon, I got lucky. I found Joe’s Barber Shop. Great guy, great cut, great conversation, great shop and super convenient for me.
Joe is the third barber I’ve tried since returning 90 days ago and I won’t be trying others. He’s the real deal.

I’ve been going to Joe’s for about a year and have nothing but great things to say about him. Super nice guy, great barber and reasonably priced.
The attention to details is what sets him apart from other places. The straight razor neck shave at the end is a nice touch.

I came here because they were open early, and I WILL be coming back. Joe is a nice guy, great to talk to and did a great job on cutting my hair. It’s not easy to find, but its worth it. There is a very small barber shop sign out front, with another sign in the back where there is street parking, and there is another barber shop (Champions) close by.

Joe is a very talented barber. I tried every barber from Hillsboro to Tigard before I found Joe. The first time you visit it will take you about an extra 30 seconds to find the place. There is a parking spot reserved for Joe’s customers in front of his door so it is really convenient.
I always say that when I move the two people I miss the most is my barber and auto mechanic. I am leaving for 4 months and I miss Joe already. Joe is a good guy and knows what he is doing, you won’t be disappointed you will be pissed it took you so long to find Joe.

Sometimes you just want to give SIX stars, or TEN stars. Mr. Joe is that sort of guy — he’s so laid back and easy to talk to. His place is a trip back in time to Clapton and Crosby Stills Nash — memorabilia is scattered on the walls — really nice, clean stuff. There is a pool table for guests to enjoy, bald man with magnetic hair you can «grow», Etch-​a-​Sketch for the kids (well, okay, I played it) but most of all? He took 2 feet of my husband’s hair and shaped him up so nicely that we both can hardly tell he made a drastic change. We were commenting this afternoon that, for such a drastic cut, neither one of us even notices! That is surely an indication of a super marksman with the shears.

I have been going to Joe for years now. This barber shop hits in on all levels. Not only does he make you feel right at home but it also has that old school feel. In my many years of going here I have requested many different styles of cuts and never had a bad one. He finishes your cut with a hot shaving cream shave to the neck with a straight blade, just like it should be done. I would not hesitate to recommend him! Quality guy running a quality business.

Best Barber that I have ever been too! Joe is all about the details. In 3+ years of going to him, I haven’t had a single bad hair cut. In fact every cut is perfect! Also, love that he has a pool table to shot a round before your cut. Check him out!
