Vanek’s Shoe Repair has been serving Beaverton since 1963. Our mission is to provide quality repairs in a friendly environment. With over 52 years of success, we look forward to adding you to our long history of happy customers.

Meet the Business Owner

Joseph Vanek V.

Business Owner

Karel Vanek studied the shoe repairing trade from the masters in the Czech Republic. After completing his training, he brought his family and shoe repair skills to the United States. Karel taught the shoe repair business to his seven sons.

Carl Vanek, one of the seven sons, served his country in the navy prior to the great depression. After serving his country, he settled down in the Portland area and taught the shoe repair secrets of the Old European World to his two sons, two grandsons and two son-​in-​laws.

Carl David Vanek, Carl Vanek’s youngest son, continued the 100-​year legacy by teaching his four sons the shoe repair secrets of the Old European World.

Today, they work hand in hand as father and son at Vanek’s Beaverton Shoe Repair in downtown Beaverton. Carl David Vanek, with over 40 years of shoe repair experience and Joseph Vanek, with over 15 years of shoe repair experience are waiting to serve you.

These guys did a great job resoling (and rescuing) my wingtips last year, and just today they dyed a spot on a leather jacket that i screwed up trying to fix myself. Vanek’s is not cheap, but they will do a great job. It is worth driving across town and incidentally right past a lesser repair place near my house.

Been to this family owned place a few times for shoe repair now. Took in two pairs one of which (a nice nubuck boot was in bad shape from a lot of miles). Payed 100 bucks (I have nothing else to base this off of so not sure if it’s high or low) but the shoes are nearly unrecognisable, in a good way! The other pair, EXPENSIVE Chukkas, were nearly blinding with shine and leather cleanup as well as perfectly moulded new bottom soles. The boots looked almost like new aside from some unrepairable scoring from many travels. Great place.

I was disappointed in the customer service and the quality of repair at Vanek’s. They were unprofessional, inattentive, and dismissive. When it came to repairing my sandals, I had to ask them to recut part of it, as it did not fit the sole. In response to this request, they acted annoyed rather than accomodating. Unbelievable. This is my first negative review and would not write one unless absolutely necessary.

They charged me $ 30 to ruin my sandals– After the «fix,» my sandals were ugly and no longer fit. I got a shrug and «that’s the best we could do» from the people there…

The folks at Vanek’s Shoe Repair couldn’t be nicer, and the quality of their work was phenomenal!!! My boots are of very good quality and are both about ten years old. The gentlemen behind the counter suggested applying half soles to save a few bucks on both pairs. One would never know, both pair look brand new! They were polished to perfection!
Whoever said this folks weren’t friendly maybe should check their own personalities, because everyone here was incredibly friendly and polite!
If you need quality work look no further!

This place completely ruined a 600 dollar pair of shoes. My bad for trusting this place, but they told me they could handle a zipper change and match it to the old one. What I got was a cut up boot with the wrong zipper that was not even close. The boot was unwearable and the people there couldn’t understand why. These people don’t understand good service and don’t deserve anyone’s business.
Take your shoes here if you don’t care about them and want to get treated poorly, oh and pay for all that

they’ve done an excellent job with everything I’ve brought them, including a couple complicated cases. and they were honest and told me there was nothing they could do for one pair of shoes i brought, which i understood — it was asking/​hoping too much on my part. in total I’ve probably brought them over 10 pairs of shoes in the last couple months. I’m not sure what the reviews about poor customer service are referring to. does everyone who works there behave like a perfect angel all the time? no. does anyone? nope. i highly recommend this place; i drive all the way from portland to come here. picky shoe repair tweaks, polishing, cleaning, re-​soles, sewing, gluing, new insoles, you name it, they’ll do it.

I’m not sure why a lot of people have an issue with the friendliness of the people in the shop– they were rad! So nice and accommodating and gave me honest opinions on whether the boots I found on the side of 21st were worth saving. I decided to bite the bullet and pay the 100 $ to get them totally re-​done, and it was so worth it! I am so happy with those boots now. 100 well spent. I’ll always bring my shoes here.

I wanted to write a review about this place because people should know about it. I heard about Vanek’s from some friends, so i decided to bring a pair of shoes here that I really thought were in a hopeless state, and impossible to be repaired., and after 8 days or so, they shoes were ready to be picked up and I have to say, they looked like new, I am sure they required tedious and time consuming work, but the level of the work was excellent & very accurate in all the details! And the price was not so bad, compared to how much it would have cost me if I had to buy a new pair, it was absolutely worth it, They are also very nice and friendly, I keep referring people to this shop all the time!

They did a great job repairing a bunch of loose stitching on my Merril shoes, just took a few days for turnaround and they are better than new at least as far as stitching goes. Sweet.

After reading the Unilocal reviews; I didn’t have high expectations about their customer service, but I did have high expectations about the quality of their work.
They were actually very friendly at both drop off and pickup. My shoes were ready exactly when promised.
I took in three pairs of boots to be repaired. All three pairs needed basically the same repair, one sole on each had worn out. They replaced the soles, and the quality seems fine, but I wont know for sure until boot season comes around again.
I kind of expected the shoes to be cleaned or polished, or maybe some minor scratches buffed out, but none of that happened.
It was a hundred bucks total for the repairs. The boots cost me around $ 800 originally, so I’m happy if I’ll get a few more seasons about of them.

I am so glad that this shop still exists. So many have gone the way of the phone booth. I have taken many different leather items to them, and I am almost always surprised at how quick they turn it around, and that the cost is still quite reasonable for such specialized skills. They have repaired shoes, a knife scabbard, and a few of my wife’s expensive handbags, always with exceptional results.
We had a problem with a Coach bag from Nordstroms, and Nordstroms told us we would have to deal directly with Coach. I took it and a D&B bag both to Vanek’s.
I picked them up a few days later and surprised my wife. She was delighted.
They were both back to new condition!
Vanek’s is the first place I go for any kind of leather goods repair.

This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. I will be a loyal customer to this establishment as long as they are in business. Very friendly staff, personal attention to my needs. They did not try to up-​sell me at all. Very honest and hard working individuals run this business. They took care of me while I waited and charged me less than I have ever paid for this service in my life. I highly recommend this business to anyone looking to have a simple shoe shine or get their shoes repaired. I am still amazed at the high level of quality and quick turnaround time. After being turned away from 2 other repair shops for a somewhat more complicated repair project on my favorite sandals, I brought them to Vanek’s. They agreed to try to fix them. I’m so happy to report an awesome job by an establishment that takes the craft of shoe repair seriously!

I went to three different shoe repair stores until I serendipitously stumbled into this place while going to Beaverton Sub Station next door. My boots of 2 years were broken, unwearable, and torn. The bottoms were ripped and water was sipping through. The three places I initially visited all told me that my boots were a lost cause and that it’ll cost more to fix them than to buy a new pair. I was saddened…
Until I found Vanek’s. I casually walked in without giving much thought to it. The guy at the desk wasn’t the friendliest person but he explained the problem of my boots. I was thoroughly surprised when he said he could fix them… but TOMORROW. Damn. Now, that’s good service. I was scheduled to go overseas in two days so I needed them as early as possible.
Next day I ate at Beaverton Sub Station and went into Vanek’s to pick up my pair. They looked spanky new. I paid $ 57 to get the bottoms replaced and shoes beautifully shined.
Although they can be more friendly, their workmanship is flawless.

I have been having shoes repaired here for 20 plus years and it has not changed one bit since I started going there. The store is very small and Customer Service is not their forte for sure.
They do have a huge collection of Cowboy Boots for sale.
I have had him stretch and repair many pairs of shoes. Last time I took my favorite Van’s in because the dog chewed the lining and they were unwearable. He ended up putting in a leather lining on the inside of my shoe and now I hate wearing them as they are super slick when worn with socks and the thicker lining made them too tight.
Other than that, they do a decent job and the shoes are ready when he says they will be and the prices are decent. They need to take a Customer Service Class and smile once in awhile and it would be a 4 star establishment in my book.

We have done business with Mr. Vanek for a few years now and are happy with the results. He does a great job for a fair price. He’s not the most chipper personality but I consider this to be because he’s done his job for many years and is a bit tired and ready to retire. He’s of the old school. I would recommend him highly to anyone looking for a well-​done quality shoe repair.
