Excellent curry goat — tender and falling off the bone. Plantain, vegetable and rice servings on the side were hearty and delicious. Jerk chicken left more to be desired as it was quite dry (I preferred the jerk chicken wings instead).

I had the jerk chicken wings, jerk shrimp and as my entrée I had oxtails and everything was delicious. Cozy place with great service, definitely recommend it!

This restaurant is I’m a great location with both indoor and outdoor seating with a very relaxed atmosphere and music. The service was great, we ordered the curry chicken and the oxtail. The amount of food was just perfect that we had enough room for dessert! The desert was perfect and not too sweet. Would definitely come back!

On a warm summer night, my boyfriend and I searched Unilocal for an affordable restaurant with outdoor seating and came across Angela’s. After last night’s dinner at Angela’s, I can honestly say I’m in love. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very intimate but inviting. For myself, I ordered the Oo So Good Corn and the Codfish Sliders. The corn is marinated with a unique spicy mayo and cheese– to die for! The sliders are a classic play on a famous Caribbean dish: saltfish and bake, and who doesn’t love bake and saltfish. My boyfriend had the jerk wings with a side of plantains; he is a very picky eater so for him to say he loved his dish, that means a lot! While there we had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Angie herself. She is the epitome of a beautiful soul. Thank you Angie for sharing your passion with Brooklyn! I will definitely be returning all summer!

One of my friends read the write up in the NY times, and it sounded great, so we came here for brunch one cloudy Saturday. It was fairly quiet at around 12:30 — there was just one other party there when we arrived. We shared the codfish sliders, lamb curry, and the warm rum cake. Everything was amazing, I especially loved the codfish sliders. The bread was slightly sweet and went perfectly with the fish. I’m usually not a fan of codfish, but this was seasoned so well, and the fish tasted fresh and was perfectly cooked. I wasn’t planning on having dessert, but we were convinced to try the warm rum cake, which was served with vanilla ice cream. I’m so glad we did try it, it was a perfect end to our meal.
The service was great — Angela herself does the cooking, and came out to chat with us. She was incredibly kind and gracious.
I was surprised there weren’t too many other people eating here, given the incredible food and the write up in the Times. I’ve gone to other Times reviewed restaurants, and usually they are overwhelmed with people. It does look like they do a lot of take out/​delivery though.

I came here today with a group of 7 to celebrate my dad’s 65^th birthday. Angela was able to accommodate our large party last minute and we were greeted by Collin when we got there as our server. The food and service were wonferful and the music was on point with lots of reggae tunes (toots, marley, third world, etc). A plus was that we didn’t feel rushed at all. The dishes took some time to come out but everything tasted fresh and we were able to enjoy the moment and music.
I tasted a bunch of their dishes: corn, jerk wings, lo mein, curry chicken, curry goat, jerk chicken. My favorite was the corn that had a tasty sauce on it and the jerk wings that were super moist and flavorful. The curry dishes were also really good. The pineapple iced tea is a must!

I was surprised to have the experience I had considering all the good reviews but this restaurant does NOT live up to the hype. I’m not sure if they were under staffed but as small as the space is, it was not ok to wait an hour and 40 mins to get my meal. When I asked for updates on the meal I was brushed off and told to «not show up hungry to a restaurant». With the almost 2 hours wait I saw people come in order, eat and pay while I sat at the bar and waited. To add insult to injury the food was nothing to rave about. As a Jamaican American and foodie I know good Caribbean food and if it was a good mean I wouldn’t even get on Unilocal and complain but with the horrible service, rude staff and underwhelming food– I discourage anyone from coming here

I was pleasantly surprised to read of Angela’s in The New York Times; what caught my attention was mention of «bake and saltfish», a Guyanese favorite. With the Times’ review in mind, I was determined to find Angela’s and see if the food lived up to the hype.
Yesterday afternoon, I ventured, programed my GPS and found Angela’s. A tiny, almost nondescript and unassuming restaurant, with bright yellow borders in contrast to the natural wood look, on the corner of Nostrand and Jefferson avenues in the BedStuy neighborhood of Brooklyn.
On entering, I was greeted by the host and a waitress. Standing at the bar, I enquired about the bake and salt fish, a typical breakfast meal, and eventhough it was the late afternoon, did they have any more. The waitress asked me to hold on a moment while she checked, she returned to say that they still had. With Sunday breakfast in mind, I ordered two, and also decided that since I was hungry, I’ll sit and have a meal. I ordered the jerk chicken.
I think Angela, who, it seems, also cooks, may have heard my voice, with my Guyanese accent — the kitchen in close proximity to the dining area, and came out to see me. She and I chatted for a moment about the village where she originated in Guyana, in the county of Demerara and on the East Coast, called Anns Grove, which is in a line of villages, inhabited predominantly by former slaves, with Victoria Village to the east, which was the first village bought by freed slaves after the abolition of slavery in the British colonies; Guyana, previously named British Guiana, was a British colony.
It was a bit of a wait, but I passed the time chatting with a relative on the phone and observing the diverse customers streaming in through the door. The interior is spacious, clean, and the seating, three cocktail tables and chairs, and four regular tables and chairs, and three bar stools. While I waited, I saw a family whose order of curry chicken, vegetable lo mein (Guyanese styled) arrive, and from the vantage point of the high chair, it looked appetizing.
When my meal arrived, it was worth the wait; an ample portion of jerked chicken in a modernistic bowl, the accompanying peas and rice with seasoned steamed cabbage and shoe string carrots, and yellow plantains on a separate plate.
Digging in, I speared one of the many pieces of chicken with my fork. The meat fell off the bone. Scooping it up, I transferred it to the other plate and with a bit of rice and peas, put the fork full in my mouth. I was expecting the typical jerk chicken taste, an explosion of spices dominated by the Jamaican scotch bonnet pepper. Instead, my taste buds were gently greeted by a flavorful, well seasoned, and tender piece of chicken, with a little after burn — the peppery taste coming at the tail end, almost at the back of the palate. Yes, I was famished, and made quick work of the meal, eating combinations of chicken with the vegetables or fried yellow plaintains. The host stopped by to ask if I wanted anything to drink, and I remember seeing a previous diner drinking what looked to be sorrel. I asked for some, without ice (a truly Guyanese thing), and when it was delivered in a wine glass, it seemed to be a dark, blood red wine, rather it was rich with that hint of cloves.
The two bakes and saltfish arrived in a handled brown paper bag, which on the menu, listed them as codfish sliders — I guess to appeal to the American palate and sensibilities.
On Sunday morning, I opened the two aluminum foil wrapped balls and discovered the bakes stuffed with saltfish. I was a trifle disappointed in the size: they were similar to the diminutive White Castle burgers. After microwaving them, I sat down and bit into one. The dough, of the bake, was soft, moist, and delicious; the accompanying saltfish, seasoned and with cherry tomatoes, tasted like the saltfish I knew.
I was satisfied. Angela’s lives up to the claims in the Times’ article. I was aware that Angela and all who work with her are trying hard to maintain a standard of excellence and quality, and are extremely grateful of the support they receive; she’s a simple down-​to-​earth woman who is trying to do what she loves and enjoys — cooking and serving food as only she knows how, with her Guyanese culture and heritage as her foundation; bringing a little of Guyana to BedStuy.

If you are looking for a Grade A restaurant in cleanliness and taste Angela’s is the right restaurant for you!!!
The succulent grilled shrimp with special sauce is amazing!
Her tender, well seasoned Jerk chicken is great down to the bone!
Lastly, my all time favorite is the steak with asparagus and mash red potatoes.
Peter Luger has nothing on Angela’s steak. The steak doesn’t require sauce it’s flavorful all by itself.
I give Angela 5 stars and two thumbs up!!!

New York’s restaurant scene has started to blur together, so it’s refreshing to find a restaurant with not just delicious but unique food that makes you stop your conversation to savor every bite. That’s Angela’s.
Angela is a special chef: she treats feeding people with the utmost respect, finding the best ingredients and clearly taking great care in perfecting her recipes. There is something a little different about her jerk chicken from others I’ve had, and when asked what makes hers better, she just smiles knowingly. The jerk chicken, grilled shrimp and plantains were all delicious; I’m dying to go back to try her curry. Also, don’t underestimate the care taken to match the beer selection with the food. I’m not a huge beer fan, but I like beer with certain foods, and Dale, who lived in Germany, has chosen beers that perfectly complement Angela’s food.
As has been said by others, what makes Angela’s five-​plus stars is the people. Dale — bartender, waiter, host — was so warm and welcoming, he made us like we were having dinner at a friend’s home. After dinner, we went to a party around the corner, and when we were walking back to our car at midnight, we passed Dale having a smoke outside, and he invited us in for a nightcap with Angela, Al and him. We learned about Angela’s culinary career, about their philosophy of being more than a restaurant but rather an integral part of the neighborhood and their customers’ lives. They want to know their customers, and their customers to know them. Their warmth and their love of what they do makes Angela’s much more than just a great place to eat; it’s a place you want to be part of, to make part of your life.

Angela’s is a fantastic, friendly and charming restaurant located in the Bed-​Stuy, Brooklyn neighborhood. When we first started we thought it was Haitian cuisine. Turns out it’s Afro-​Caribbean but whatever it was, it was AMAZING! Jerk Chicken you will fight over. Jerk Shrimp. Cod sliders. Goat curry. Plantains.
The food alone is worth all six stars. But Unilocal needs a 10-​star rating when the people who run the place are like Angela and her family. We weren’t at a restaurant, we were guests of a gracious, warm, cheerful family.

This January, my boyfriend and I were lucky enough to spend a week in beautiful Port Antonio and Long Bay, Jamaica. Since this trip, we’ve become obsessed with Caribbean food and the style of cooking. On Sunday we ventured to Crown Heights/​Bedstuy area looking for a Carib grocery store (which we found and stocked up on Festival, cream of coconut milk and jerk sauces!). All of this shopping made us hungry so we decided to search the area for Jamaican-​style food.
Angela’s, as you can see, comes highly recommended by other Unilocalers so we made our choice and headed in! It was Easter Sunday and busy but we were able to snag a seat at the window. Our server was friendly and laid back which went along with the Caribbean music playing in the background.
For our meal, we tried the jerk wings (spice was perfect and meat literally fell off the bone), green plantains (loved the sauce severed with these), the curry goat (tender, generous portion-​size) and the house salad (fresh avocado and veggies). We were able to speak with Angela for a bit after our meal so we could rave about our meal to her in person. I loved that there was still an intimate, local vibe in this space and talking to the owner was the cherry on top.
One little comment to point out– my bf was having trouble with their credit card smart tablet and locating the place to enter a tip.
We live in downtown Brooklyn but will be hoping on the A train very soon to head back to Angela’s. Thank you for your hospitality!

The owner is gracious and welcoming; his baritone voice and a warm smile made me feel at home in this small but comfy restaurant/​bar. The décor is a dominated by wood and brick and the reggae music in the background added to the ambiance in a good way.
I started out with the jerk chicken wings; they came out spicy and piping hot; delicious – no ranch dressing needed. I then had the goat curry — it was spicy but not over the top, rich and salted just right. The goat itself was juicy and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend.

This was a new spot that opened in October 2015.
The people — are super friendly and helpful. I called ahead of time with no real idea what was offered on the menu (I posted images of the menu to help everyone else ;-)
The place — It’s fairly small but the vibe is nice for a date or catching up with a friend. There’s a bar but no alcohol yet but it’s coming. They also don’t have delivery but the location is convenient, close to the A/​C or even closer to B44. You can pay cash/​debit/​credit.
The food — amazing! We tried the jerk chicken combo (combo/​meals include rice and peas and coleslaw), curry chicken, rice & peas, Mac and cheese, & plantains. (We were hungry lol). Everything was amazing, but the macaroni and cheese was just OK to me (being from the south and all lol). I like that the plantains were not too sweet and the food was very flavorful. You can get the orders in large or small also. The food was so good I forgot to take a picture of it!
Highly recommended. Give it a try!

I have a feeling my review will become 5 stars after I finally try the Guyanese style Lo Mein, but that’s in the future, so let’s deal with the present.
After hearing some neighborhood folks mention Angela’s, and reading the Unilocal reviews, I just had to try this new Caribbean spot. And I picked a great day to do so… cold’ish, rainy, and perfect for some comfort (ing) food. Angela’s didn’t disappoint. After some personal debate, I decided to keep it simple and try their very recommended Navy Bean & Veggie Soup and and fried plantains.
Now any good West Indian knows that there are three things you judge a Caribbean cook/​chef on: peas & rice, curry (chicken/​goat/​veggies, etc) and their ability to fry, not deep fry, some plaintains (you can throw roti in here, but not every one makes it). I just had some homemade rice the day before, and would have pasta later that night (despite the cool manager/​owner prompting me to try ‘the best lo mein in town’) so I went with the plantains and so glad I did.
When I tell you that these sweet plantains were succulent, I ain’t lying. And you get a lot. At first I decided to only eat half the order. That turned to me leaving three in the bowl… and those only lasted another two hours! The soup was very good too, so I thought it would be thicker.
The atmosphere at Angela’s is excellent as well. Small’ish but comfortable, classic calypso music playing in the background had me doing a little dance while I waited for my order, which truly made the experience even more fulfilling. And while I’m a vegetarian, the sight of the jerk chicken and ox tails that two diners were eating, wafting with fresh steam and glowing with deliciousness, made a dude want some.
Yeah, I will be back soon.

Stopped by this place because the owner used to have to have the restaurant at another location before. I must say I miss the sweet smell of fresh jerk. As I was approaching the restaurant I could smell the jerk smoke from two blocks away.
This is her opening weekend so they are sold out of some of the appetizers because they went like hot cakes.
As you wait for your food, your mouth will begin to water.
The seasonings float throughout the air of this small to go place. Be prepared because most of the items are made fresh so you will wait about 15 – 20 minutes for your order especially if it’s busy.
I had to try everything. The pineapple ice tea is out of this world, I normally don’t even drink ice tea.
The veggie lo mein is amazing.
You can tell the food is not rushed.
The good thing about this location is that it is near a lot of public transportation.
