Austintatious Blinds & Shutters

I’d highly recommend Austintatious Blinds. They made the whole process so painless and worked seamlessly with my designer. The initial measurements are free, and they keep the measurements on file in case you want to do a room later. I have a lifetime warranty on the bamboo shades as well. I love supporting local businesses when they make it so easy!

Today is May 18^th (approx. 7 months since I placed my order) and while the majority of the job is done it still isn’t 100% complete. Upon installation there was a shutter that had some issues (I believe the installer said that they built it to open in the wrong direction), another that has a large scratch on it and one that just never arrived for our master bedroom. While the one for the master bedroom and the one that opened incorrectly arrived and were installed about a month ago we are still waiting on the one that has the large scratch to arrive and replace out the scratched one. In addition, in a few rooms we had prior brown shutters removed there was visible damage on the window ledges. The salesperson had mentioned there might be some damage but that the new shutters (due to their larger size) would cover any damage — this was not the case and I had to go back and re-​finish 7 window ledges that were damaged. On the one positive note, I do love the look of the new all white shutters throughout my house. I just wish I had used another company that had better customer service. To date I still haven’t heard a word from anyone in their office except the installer to set up times to come back.

I had a great experience with Austintatious Blinds and shutters. They originally came to our house to measure our windows and advise us on different options. I was immediately impressed with not only all of the selection they carry but also their knowledge and expertise about what would work best in each room.
We decided to look through the showroom prior to making a final decision and we were very glad we did. The showroom allowed us to see all of the different styles of blinds with full sized displays throughout the store. We have a small child so choosing options that were not only functional but safe was a big priority. Getting to test out each one helped our final decision.
The sales reps did a great job of coaching us through the process. A few of our windows were odd sizes so they took about 10 or 11 weeks to come in. They let us know that in advance and we felt it was well worth the wait to have custom built blinds made specifically for each window.
The install went incredibly well. They were polite and very informative. Three of our blinds in the living room were motorized so they walked us through the process of changing out batteries or taking them down if we needed to paint the walls. They are awesome by the way. Not having to reach behind the couch to pull blinds up and down is incredible.
Overall it was a great experience and we highly recommend them for anyone looking for true quality along with customer support and design insight.

We use Austintatious Blinds in our restaurant downtown so they are frequently used on a daily basis to block out the Sun. Anytime there is a little glitch with the operation of the blinds they are there in a jiffy to fix us right back up. I highly recommend them for their quality products and outstanding customer service.

I wanted to like this place. I really really wanted to… but, my experience didn’t quite turn out that way.
We just moved to Austin, bought a place close to downtown and wanted to make sure we got shutters and blinds that we really like, even if it was on the pricier side.
After a little bit of research (clearly not enough), we decided on Austintatious. We got plantation shutters and some blinds, shades and drapes for the rest of the house.
Here is a quick summary on all the visits:
#1 — Home appointment to show us the options, take measurements etc. No issues
#2 — July 3^rd. Installation for everything except the shutters since they weren’t ready yet. The installer said he couldn’t make the large woven shade that we had for the media room operate. Basically it wouldn’t close. Just for reference, just this shade cost us about two grand. Installer said someone will get it touch with us to fix it
We waited a couple of weeks and heard nothing back from Austintatious. So I reached out to them on July 18^th via email… was told someone will get in touch ASAP… then crickets again… I waited a couple more weeks and then used their feedback survey to convey how disappointed I was with the experience so far. Someone reached out to me right after that and scheduled an appointment for repairing it
#3 — Aug 6^th. One of the owners and another guy came and took a look… said they needed to order new parts and that they will be back to fix once the parts arrive
#4 — Aug 28^th. Repair person came with «new» head rails… spent some time, tried and said still couldn’t make it work… they had to go back and discuss what they could do.
#5 — Sep 19^th. This time two repair folks with another new head rail… they said they had «figured out» what was wrong… result was the same — they couldn’t make it work…
At this point, the owner came back and said we should try and get a different fabric… my wife and I had basically given up on ever having our media room fully done… we picked another fabric even though we didn’t like it as much as we did the first one…
#6 — Oct 27^th. Another installation for the new fabric that we had picked… the installation was done and we were told that one of the carriers were broken and that they had to come back and fix it later
#7 — Nov 25^th. Another installation to replace the broken carrier… this time, everything did work the way it should
So it basically took ~5 months from the first installation to get the thing finally working. I understand things can go wrong with these installations and someone may need to come back to fix it… but how a business can allow something to go wrong so many times is just beyond me… It makes me question the quality of their products and the skill of their employees… and having paid about five grand for all the things we purchased from them, it does make me question if we overpaid…
On the positive side, the plantation shutters look good so far and they did give us a 200 dollar credit at the end of it all… the new fabric we ended up picking for the media room doesn’t look all that great… probably what happens when you are forced into picking something when your first choice doesn’t work…
So net of it is we had a mediocre experience with Austintatious Blinds. I don’t think I would want to recommend this to family or friends.
Verdict: Avoid

We had the Hunter Douglas Duette Architella Honeycomb, Top Down/​Bottom Up blinds installed in October 2014. From meeting Darby at the store front, working with Elizabeth to come up with the best plan for our home, and talking to the installers, we are very happy and satisfied with Ausintatious! Everyone was friendly and helpful all along the way. The company even worked with us when we had an issue with a delay from our window installation company.
We also had some of the 3M film put on some smaller windows that did not need to be replaced. I feel like we have a home that is actual private now!
I would recommend Austintatious to everyone!

We purchaced roller blinds for our new home, 15 in total, a mix of blackout blinds and lighter ones. When installed the blackout’s protruded from the window frames and ao they had to be replaced. All up this took over 16 weeks and lots of follow-​up on our part to resolve. My assesment is that the team is nice, but seem very disorganized. I would not go back here if I needed more blinds.

The store is well laid out, clean and bright! Great selection. One of the best aspects of the store is the knowledgeable and very helpful staff. No waiting and lots of good ideas.
The only shutter store in Austin for me!

I had a great experience at AB&S. They were polite, prompt, and on time. I am not exactly proficient in home design, so I was pleased when their sales person who came out to my house offered some great device about the fabric pattern for the roller shade. It matched everything in the room and ended up looking better than I expected. Also got plantation shutters and was very happy with that too. I would definitely recommend them.

My overall experience from selection to delivery was fantastic. My salesperson was knowledgable and helpful. The shutters are beautiful and the installation was fast and very professional. I highly recommend Austintatious if you are looking for shutters for your home.

Andrea was patient, informative and worked hard to make the entire process as easy as possible for me. My home was new construction at the time so Austinatious already had sent someone to take all the measurements from inside the structure before I even walked in the door.
The installer, Kevin, waited outside my house for me for 40 minutes while I was stuck somewhere else and was still as professional and courteous as could be expected. I *highly* recommend Austintatious Blinds & Shutters.

Austintatious is simply amazing and I will refer them to everyone! These gals answered every question, took every call, and replied to every email in record time. Our shutters look absolutely fantastic. I met with Stephanie at my house at first. She showed and my wife all the different ways we could cover our windows. Who knew there were like a million? Anyway, we told her we definitely wanted shutters on a couple of windows and we were up in the air on the rest. We had a quote emailed to us within 48 hours. It was very comprehensive and the price was awesome (shutters are expensive no matter what).
Once we ordered the shutters we got a call from Craig. Craig handles installs for Austintatious. He came out to measure exact dimensions for the shutters to ensure they fit perfectly. He was very polite and efficient. When the shutters were ready Craig came back out to install. I wasn’t there but my wife said his team was very, very nice to her and our kids (if you’re nice to my kids you always win).
A week after the install someone from Austintatious called to make sure we were pleased with the result. I love follow up. I told them we were very pleased.
Just call them and see for yourself.

I’ll echo the prior negative reviews; they are disorganized, tardy, and not responsive. They have a cute and folksy name that belie their discourteous customer service. The final product was ok, but available elsewhere with less hassle.
Whether it was the initial contact when the estimates were sent to the wrong email, to scheduling the install, which took five separate calls on my part to chase down, the process was unnecessarily stressful.
The classic line after I expressed my concerns was Norma’s snarky, «hey, we do this all the time.» The comment was meant to convey experience, but reading the other reviews, yes, they do this all the time. Better to spend your thousands elsewhere.
Avoid.

If you’re looking for blinds or shutters in Austin, this is definitely the best place in town! Tracey was very helpful as was everyone else I dealt with – just great customer service. We got the silhouettes in our living room and they are beautiful! After price shopping a few other places in town, Tracey came back with the lowest price of them all. Even after we had spent several thousand dollars with another company in town, Austintatious still quoted us $ 500 less than the company we had previously done business with.
They installed at the exact time I requested and installation was quick and done correctly the first time. After installation, they provided us with a brochure on cleaning and operating the silhouettes.
Great service, great product and lowest prices.

We had Austintatious come out and install film on our windows to cut out all the direct sunlight we were receiving. It’s made such a difference in our office! We are able to have the blinds up all day without feeling the heat from outside. Amazing!

No call, no show for appointment. I phoned their office to be sure I was on their schedule and was told the employee was running late but could arrive in another 30 – 40 minutes. I understand «late», but I do not understand «no call.» Bush League.

Bought three wooden blinds with cordless lifting feature. Took a couple months to arrive and when they did (first visit — install) one did not work and they all had cords not wands for tilt feature. The swap to a wand from cords was quick (2^nd visit) but the non-​working replacement took a couple more weeks (3^rd visit). Then the wand would not ’tilt the blinds closed’ after a couple months use. Service call (4^th visit) was again quick and fixed the issue — but commented the part can ‘wear out’ rather easily. We do not adjust them every day and only had the blinds for a couple months — How do they become worn? I think they may use second hand parts or something. I point out how many visits it took because they do not service or install products after 5 during the week or on weekends. If you both work — plan on one of you taking off /​leaving to meet these folks! No exceptions! People were really nice, but just about anything that could go wrong — did. Oh yeah — and you better make work arrangements beyond the initial sales visit! Nothing like taking off work 4 times just to have 3 blinds installed and working correctly. Would have been less hassle (and much quicker) just to do it myself.

Now my blinds have been installed, ahead of time and under budget. I have the motorized honeycomb in the living room and master bedroom. Everything looks and works great! Thanks Tracey!!!

We needed 20 new metal mini blinds for our office. I went overboard and got 4 bids. Austintatious Blinds was $ 1000 less than the nearest competition. To boot, the service, quality and installation was excellent. I’ve been contracting in Austin for 15 years and love it when I find a great service like this. The blinds took a few days longer than I hoped but they did everything the could to meet our deadlines.
