History

Established in 1992.

Out on a Whimsey started as a very small wholesale operation on High Street in Belfast Maine in 1992. We moved to a larger retail space on the waterfront specializing in gifts for the tourist. A few years later we moved to High Street and then again to our current location also on High Street. We now sell mostly toys, t-​shirts and books but still carry a nice selection of sterling silver jewelry.

I started with my own gift shop in 1976. I’ve always been in the gift industry as a wholesaler or in retail. I’ve had my own shops in Islesboro, Camden and for the last 20 years in Belfast.
