Academic Connections is a local educational organization offering highly personalized tutoring and enrichment to students K-​12. Founder Shana Johansen has been working with children and youth for 20 years, and specializes in reading and writing, English as a Second Language, and College prep.

Academic Connections also features Young Writers’ Academy (YWA), a program for youth to explore creative writing in a fun «club» environment, while at the same time supporting students to achieve a higher level of academic excellence. After-​school and school break opportunities available.

History

Established in 2012.

Academic Connections takes a personal, holistic approach to develop effective learning solutions for each student. We partner with parents, teachers and the student to assess strengths, areas for improvement, and learning style. We then create a personal learning plan, combining customized content, organizational study skills development and academic coaching to help the student understand not only what to learn, but how to learn.

Shana J.

Business Owner

Shana Johansen offers a unique combination of experience and skills developing programs that integrate reading comprehension, critical thinking and academic writing. As a credentialed teacher in Washington State, Shana has taught elementary and secondary students in the Bellevue School District. She has also taught English as a second language, internationally as well as in the US. In addition to her teaching degree, she holds an MA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
