Der Pet Haus

I took my puppy here based on a referral from a friend. She is a fluffy adorable Shih-​poo. Like many puppies she is (was) a bit spunky. I had previously taken her to Petco and switched because they trimmed her face and left her with a little cut. I assumed this was because she was a wiggly puppy. Well after two visits to Der Pet Haus, it was like she was a different dog. She doesn’t move around at all when groomed. Even when I groom her. At first I thought this was because she was finally used to grooming. One day I dropped her off and went back to my car. I heard loud Unilocaling when I got to my car. I ran back in to see if it was my dog. I peered through the tinted window where the washing/​drying takes place. I saw two people that did not look familiar or happy. Taylor came out from the grooming area and said no, it’s not your dog. I realized it wasn’t her Unilocal.Even if it wasn’t my dog, someone’s dog was not happy. I was a bit suspicious but I chalked it up to maybe a new dog.
It wasn’t until I started noticing scars after grooming that I became very concerned. There were a few on her head and one on her belly. I took her to the vet and he thought she had been attacked by another dog or perhaps hit her head on something at home. Then I connected the dots. I can’t prove it but I always trust my gut. My gut tells me they are being abusive in order to make the dogs behave. They won’t see my dog again

We have a 6 yr old Doberman that loves people and has never had any other trouble with groomers until this place. His grooming should be very simple. The biggest thing is that we have always insisted that his nails be sanded not cut because they are very opaque black so you can’t see the quick. This has never been a problem till now. This was the second or third time we had taken Gunner here. However, it was the first time I had taken him in. I was concerned initially because when the groomer took his leash Gunner tried to back away and didn’t want to go with him. (in the past gunner has always been excited to see his groomer). I should have trusted my instinct to leave with him then. An hour later, when we picked him up, I was horrified! He darted right out to me keeping his head down and shaking. He was still pretty wet, and had something on his face that I couldn’t make out because he was burying his face into me. I just wanted to get him out of there and calm him down so I took him to the truck while my husband paid. Once he jumped up in the back seat and faced me I could see why he was shaking. His nails were ALL bleeding and CUT way to short. He had what looked like stiptic stick all over his face. AND WORST OF ALL his eyes were swollen shut!!! We went back into the shop to question what had happened and they were all very dismissive and acted like everything was normal! WTF! They provided no explanation for any of the issues, not even a sorry or sign of concern! We took him immediately to the vet who tested him for corneal abrasion. She said he had chemical burns to the eyes! She flushed his eyes out thoroughly and even remarked on how calm and good he was for her. He had to be on steroids and abx for a while. I am so disgusted. Dog owners understand, our dogs trust us. The thought of dropping our furry baby off somewhere where they mistreat and even hurt them makes me feel sick inside.
Please do not put you beloved pet in the hands of people who care so little.

For starters I hate writing BAD or ONE Star Reviews but I felt the need to share my side of the story for the sake of other dog owners thinking of getting their dog (s) groomed here…
We just moved here from California and our Maltese mix was looking a bit shaggy since her last haircut was back home. There were recommendations from friends/​neighbors urging me to try this place so I felt confident enough to give it a shot.
The place itself is not particularly easy to find as it’s in a parking lot behind the Auto-​Zone and across from Walmart. We walked in late but Taylor was accommodating. She asked what kind of style I wanted and I told her Puppy/​Teddy bear cut but not too short.
When I came back for pick up I noticed that she rang me up for payment at the counter first instead of having the courtesy to get my dog first and at least show me what she looked like. I was slightly annoyed by this but had higher expectations from what I’ve heard so I tried to be optimistic. After paying she went back to get my baby girl and from what I saw at first glance seemed reasonable although I wasn’t too happy. During the drive back, upon further inspection I noticed that her face was unevenly cut with hair shorter on one side and way too much shaved between the corners of her eyes/​top of nose. It didn’t look anything like a Teddy bear or Puppy cut, her chin was too short, chunk of hair under her eye missing as well. To add insult to injury her butt was shaved too much which makes it look revealing and unsightly. She came out looking like an old lady (no offense to anyone). Oh and they cut her eyelashes but they didn’t match! I’ve uploaded the before and after photos. Basically she looks like a different dog!
Again, I hate to write this but it had to be done. I felt like this was a waste of my time and I definitely won’t be bringing my dog back here again. They should probably at least show that they care more about dogs and their customers rather than what goes into their register.

I have discovered there were black spots on my poodle’s back on the left side twice after grooming and don’t know what it is. My dog won’t let me touch it and it went from the spot to a scar like texture and later healed as normal skin. Plus my dog refused to go there and is shaking everytime she gets there. Don’t know why. Been there for almost 2 years, maybe it’s time for a better change
After reading the other review, I am not going back! My dog shakes everytime she get into the room and wants to run away, with the dark spot show up on her body. I think they might have been abuse her in someway! Dog can’t talk! I don’t know what I can do but I am not going back to this place even they do a good cut.

They did an amazing job on my pomapoo! He does not like getting his haircut AT ALL and they made it as easy for him as possible! We will definitely be bringing him back!

I have been taking my Irish Terriers to Keith since 2000 for hand stripping, and he is excellent. It’s a 45 min drive from Wallingford, but he is great, so we’ve built up a long-​standing relationship.
However, the last two times this year, the work was done by Taylor. The first time the abrasions on my poor dog’s stomach caused a $ 230 vet bill. I called to ask about it, but did not learn anything, but left my feedback. At dropoff this last time I made sure to review with Taylor about taking care of his belly, but he came out even worse, and also with a badly scraped eye. $ 320 vet and meds. Poor dog.
This time I called Keith (owner) directly to let him know, and left him voicemail. The most disappointing thing is that in the intervening 3 weeks, he has never called me back. After 14 years of business, and at least 7 referrals that brought in business, I felt I deserved that.
So my warning is, steer clear of Taylor. The grooming is expensive, and the vet bills and pain to the dog are too costly.

We have been very happy with the results of our grooming sessions at Der Pet Haus! Our Schnauzer always looks great when he gets done and he has kind of funky hair to cut. Taylor has always been very helpful and kind when answering all of our questions. I would highly recommend anyone to this business!

AFTER 10 YEARS, people STILL ask me where I get my yorkie groomed! Doesn’t get much better than that!
I have been taking my Yorkie to be groomed by Keith for 10 years. The reason why I am writing this review is because I was recommending Keith recently, and I was looking up his info on the internet and saw Der Pet Haus reviews, and thought I’d glance at them. I figured it was about time I gave Keith a review here!
He is GREAT, perfect? No, occasionally an uneven clip here or there. But 95% of the time I am satisfied to the tune of FIVE STARS. He puts up with a lot because my dog needs 2 people to hold on during toe clips.
I live in North Kirkland and it takes me at least 30 minutes to get to Der Pet Haus, but I still go after all these years because overall it works out great… I’ve tried groomers closer to home for convenience, but we never go back… we just make the trek to go see Keith. Professional, reasonable price, he’s calm & patient and accommodating when we call to book an appt.

I took my two English Springers there for years. The actual grooming was top notch and my groomer was great. However my first indication of issues started when I witnessed a groomer slap a small dog restrained on a grooming table. I convinced myself it was in the course of working with difficult dogs. Then I noticed my younger dog started being downright frightened when I took him there to groom. I knew he did not like being blow dried but he hated even looking at the building. My last straw came when I picked him up from an appt and he was coughing. He coughed and gagged off and on the whole night. It was obvious he had been restrained by a collar, fought the drying and was ALLOWED TO INJURE his windpipe. NO animal care facility should ALLOW an animal to do that. They should have told me that they cannot safely groom him. I was outraged, let my groomer know and never returned.
For STRESS FREE grooming I have been using Tess Jones, a dog loving specialist in many fields, including massage. See her at her new day care and grooming business, TESSLAN Grooming in Bellevue off 520. Simply the best care you can get.

We have brought our cat Clyde here twice now and LOVE IT! We get a lion cut done on him and both times she did a perfect job. If you are looking for a good place to get your cat groomed I would definitely recommend going here!

I have been taking my Brussels Griffon to Keith/​Der Pet Haus for a year now. Our experience has always been outstanding. Not only does Dalek love to see Keith and jumps to his arms each and every time, but more importantly, Keith does an excellent job! Perfect hand stripping with dog show quality results. My little ewok looks like she just won best of show every time I pick her up.
I wouldn’t take her anywhere else.

NEVER take your cat there. Please, for your cat’s sake, don’t. Short story: the shave looked terrible and patchy, they hacked off the whiskers on the left side of her face, and there was dried blood where they nicked one of her nipples.
I specifically asked if they can groom cats, and was told that they could. I asked for a lion shave for my long-​haired cat. I dropper her off, and it seemed like she was in fine hands, but my mom brought her back afterwards, and I was devastated. Her fur looked like it had been cut random lengths. That was the first thing I noticed. She looked completely pitiful. They had also cut all the fur on her paws/​legs, which is not how a lion cut is done.
But even WORSE, I saw that they cut off part of her whiskers!!! The ones that are normally about 4 inches were hacked off to an inch on one side of her face!!! ANYONE who owns a cat (and even a lot of people I know who don’t own cats know this!) should know that whiskers help a cat maintain his/​her balance. YES, I know they will not die without whiskers, but it’s simply uncomfortable; especially after just being shaved and not being used to it. I could see that my cat was very uncomfortable at first. I called Der Pet Haus, and the person who groomed her said he had never heard that cats use their whiskers to balance. I could not believe that! I even looked online to read further about the effects, and it’s a pretty well-​known fact! He asked his vet, and called back to say that my cat would be fine as long as she’s not blind. Well of course, I know that; but my cat is uncomfortable, and she is my baby. He said sorry and that sometimes cats move around and things like that happen. I’ve had my cat lion-​shaved twice before, and had not had those problems. Obviously the groomer at Der Pet Haus was in a rush and couldn’t wait for her to stop moving. Later, I noticed there was some dried blood on one of her nipples, where they’d nicked it.
Overall, I was VERY upset by this experience. My cat is my baby, as I said, and I simply don’t want her to be so uncomfortable. Maybe this place is fine for dogs but DON’T TAKE YOUR CAT!

My husband & I have been taking our Brussels Griffon to Keith at Der Pet Haus for years. Although we live in Seattle we wouldn’t consider going anywhere else because he always does such a beautiful job. Don’t listen to the negative reviews. Who would go back somewhere after having a horrible experience? I highly recommend Keith at Der Pet Haus.

My two dogs, Roxy and Big actually like going to get groomed at Der Pet Haus. They are always excited to show off their beautiful «fur-​style» to me when I pick them up.
Most importantly for me Keith is one of the very few groomers who knows how to groom my Norwich Terrier without stripping him.

I made another appointment to give Der Pet Haus a chance to redeem themselves at the full price of a grooming appointment even though my last experience was HORRIBLE.
I just received a call from the same male groomer saying that the other groomers feel «uncomfortable» grooming my dog because of my last review. I explained to him that i was giving them another oppurtunity and he said they are all the same and even though they offered to fix his hair the last time, i didnt bring my dog in. Well, fact of the matter is, i work a day job as well. Taking time off to bring my dog in is taking money away from my paycheck. I figured, i’ll wait untill he NEEDS to be groomed again instead of bringing him in a few weeks later, then again in another month or two.
If you’ve read my first review about this place, you’ll know that the first time i brought my dog here, his hair was absolutely perfect (one of the female groomers worked on him). Then the second time, we had the male groomer work on him. My dogs hair was cut crooked all over and way too short.
Anyhow. here’s a tip for you, fellow Unilocalers: if you do choose to bring your 4-​legged baby here, ASK FOR ONE OF THE FEMALE GROOMERS!!! DO NOT LET THE GUY GROOMER GROOM YOUR DOGS. Your dogs hair will look like something you could cut at home yourself.
I dont think this place cares about dogs or business. Oh well. too bad for them.

I have been bringing my dearest dogs here for years, I feel lucky to have found the care and great services they offer! I recommend them to everyone with such pride and confidence. Great gratitude to my favorites groomers! You are simply the best!

I have taken my pug here 3 times and it’s the only time she’s been to a groomer where she isn’t shaking in fear and goes willingly into the arms of her groomer. She always comes home looking beautiful, smelling perfect and they do a wonderful job with her teeth, wrinkly face and toenails. They always accommodate me with an appointment pretty much whenever I want and their prices are fantastic and I wouldn’t consider going anywhere else. I’ll be calling on them again very soon!

If you are a poodle owner especially a standard poodle owner and you need to find a new groomer because your long time favorites are not available or have changed significantly, it is a challenge. Keith was impressive! He came out to meet me which was a hassle due to all the parking lot construction, understood my description of how we like Mick’s head to look, didn’t seem phased that our farm poodle was a mess with a long growout and got him back to me in a beautiful cut, not all the way to the skin either which my former groomer said was the only way to go, in short order. I am so pleased and will call to schedule Micks next grooming with you!

Always have had a good experience here. Keith has groomed and clipped our little Maia many times now, I can always get in, and she’s always ready on time. You have to hunt for this place, it’s located in the Old K-​Mart shopping center around the back of the strip mall building. However there is a major construction project going on right now, which will upgrade the shopping center into new state of the art shopping. Here’s hoping that the rent and the prices don’t go up cause I really like this place. It’s about 25.00 for Shampoo and nail trim now. I always tip him about another 5.00. Highly recommend. Once the construction is over and the shopping center is fairly accessable again, I’ll upgrade this to a 5 *.

I took our new 9yr old rescue to Der Pet Haus for grooming on the recommendation of our vet. The place is very hard to find — it’s on the side of a small strip mall in seemingly abandoned former box store parking lot. The interior isn’t fancy. Just a small front room and working areas in the back.
The people there seem to care about the dogs and are very knowledgeable. Since doggy was a rescue, she hadn’t been well groomed in a while. Mats, etc. I told them I wanted a puppy cut and they offered a few suggestions to make her look her best. Dropped her off around 1pm and picked her up at 4pm. Doggy was happy and seem relieved to be rid of all that hair. And we could see her eyes. :)
Cost of the cut for her, a Havanese, was about $ 60. A bit more than I was expecting but given it’s only every few months, and they did such a good job, I’ll gladly pay it.
