Overlake Lock & Key

Just went there today with my Husky Pro tool chest. Had misplaced the key during my move across the country and couldn’t open it. They took like 10 minutes to fashion a new key for me that fits the lock. They even sprayed lubricant into the lock as it needed it and did the same to the locks on my car. These guys are really good but they are also very nice to their customers. I watched them interact with about 8 other customers while there and each one was treated the same. They do all kinds of keys too so you should come here for all of your key/​lock needs! Thank you guys! You were awesome!!!

Its a small shack outside of Fred Meyer. The locksmith working there is awesome (can’t remember his name). I learned a lot about keys, history of them, the place, why a particular key cannot be duplicated and what can I do about it. Generally very nice and to the point conversation. The keys he duplicated work flawlessly (can’t say the same about keys duplicated by machine in Home Depot, go figure…)

Nothing but praise for the people running this establishment. Service is of excellent quality and speedy even if they are busy. They also provide services when your locked out of your home, which have helped me out in the past. Would recommend these guys to anyone asking.

This is the only place I will go to to get my keys copied! The prices are reasonable and he is SO fast! If there is a line it moves very fast. Over the years I’ve had over 40 keys made from this place, each and everyone of them have been great!

Drove here all the way from Shoreline because of the raving reviews. I am so glad I did. The guy (owner?) was super friendly, funny, and made the entire transaction so speedy and pleasant. It is service like this that really restores my love & hope for mom & pop businesses, and motivates me to refer everyone to them.

Rode over from Ballard based on the positive reviews and the fact that it’s finally not too hot to function outside. I needed some spare motorcycle keys since I only had one. Service was super quick and he made sure they worked before charging me. Will probably return for any key needs since it’s close to my office.

Lou is super nice and very quick at his job. My husband and I enjoy chatting with him every time we get our keys copied. Best key copier around! :)

This locksmith shop has been around for a gazillion years (okay, maybe closer to 40), and they’ve been consistently doling out excellent service over the whole time. I remember when I first moved to the Seattle area 20 years ago, I lived in an apartment up on 148^th Avenue in Bellevue and something happened to my car key. I needed a new one, and fast, and this place made one up for me. I remember thinking back then, this was a really good place.
Fast forward to this week… I needed a key to a locked bathroom at work. The key doesn’t look special or out of the ordinary. I passed an Ace Hardware on the way home the other day. They make keys. They couldn’t make a copy of the key, saying it’s not a kind they carry, I should go to Overlake Lock & Key. I then went to the Home Depot by my house. They make thousands of keys each year and have a huge inventory of keys, surely there’d be no problem getting my key made here, right? Wrong! They too didn’t have the type I needed. They recommended I go to the Fred Meyer next door or to Overlake Lock & Key. Since I was right there, I went to Fred Meyer. They too couldn’t copy my key, saying I should go to Overlake Lock & Key. So today I went to Overlake Lock & Key and, you guessed it, they made up my key in less than 5 minutes. For less than $ 4.
The guy working there is super nice and knowledgeable. He let me know that they do emergency locksmith jobs, at all hours. Good to know!
Now I know to not waste my time by going to other locksmith ships, to just come here first.

This is my favorite place to go when I need key assistance! They are incredibly speedy and accommodating. Truly some of the best customer service I have ever received, and they will help you out with anything you need. Even if it seems like a far drive, it is completely worth it!

Key copying you can count on.
At the risk of being redundant (see my other reviews about key duplication), we get a lot of keys copied for our business. Hundreds every year. One of my pet peeves is having to get a key duped a second time because the first attempt didn’t work.
These guys have been perfect. Not a dud in the bunch. It’s usually not the closest place I can go. But, I’d rather drive here once and get it done right, then go back-​and-​forth to the place down the street because they can’t get it right.
Overlake Lock & Key is my «go-​to» for key duplication on the Eastside.

I made an appointment to fix the door lock issue. Bob came to my house in the early morning (on time) and found out that it only need some lubrication. He fixed it quickly and said that he would not charge me for this kind of simple job. He is really nice and knowledgeable. He explained to me how lock worked and why lubrication needed for it.
Highly recommended!

Great for getting your keys made. This is the kind of place that doesn’t much exist anymore. A small mom’n’pop shop that hasn’t been corporatized to death. Once I lost a small screw to my Lexus key. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to replace that screw easily. I went in there and asked if they had any spares, and they did! The cost? «Just use us for your keys.» Well yeah!
They do take credit cards.

After visiting a couple other places who claim to be able to duplicate keys, I went to Overlake Lock&Key. In five minutes I had three duplicates. My wife said they were better (easier to slide in, easier to turn) than the originals. I had to agree. I promised her that if the keys work, the only place I will ever duplicate keys at is Overlake.

Great for efficient and professionally done key cutting or duplicating.
No automated machine, or those cheap machines you find in hardware/​grocery stores. Every key that I have duplicated or cut here always works on the first try, never had to waste my time to redo a key, unlike my experiences with other providers.
There are basic key accessories here, such as novelty keys, colored keys, key covers, lubricants, locksmith tools.
I’ve even hired them to replace all of the door locks at my office building (given that I was project manager of the new building we’re moving into). After emailing their field lock smith of what I was looking to do, he came by on-​time to do a field inspection. I spent about an hour with him to discuss all of the door locks that needed replacing, new locks to be added and locks to be rekeyed. Most of the parts had to be ordered which took about a week. After another confirmation on the setup time, a locksmith showed up at my office building, and completed the entire job to quote and on schedule.
I am very happy to recommend Overlake Lock and Key for key duplication or rekey office or residential buildings.

My go to place for making copies of my keys!
PROs:
* Pretty cheap! I made two copies and bought three of those colored key toppers and spent around $ 7.00 on my most recent trip.
* They have a large selection of key styles, colors, sports designs, etc.
* They can make copies of most types of keys. However, I’ve only used them to make copies for small locks, doors, and cars.
* Quick! They have literally made copies for me in under a minute.
* HIGH QUALITY. I’ve NEVER had any issues with copies I get made from here. They work just as well as the originals, or sometimes better!
CONs:
* It’s a small little hut. I guess if you’re claustrophobic you might freak out a bit haha. But as I said above, you’ll be out in no time!
OTHER COMMENTs:
* It is located on the southern side of the Fred Meyer parking lot, near the Les Schwab.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Have you ever had your keys copied at a cheap-​o place like walmart, only to come home and see that it doesn’t work? Or maybe you have to push, punch, pull, or Chris Brown the thing in order to make it work. Well yah. that sucks! I’m happy to have found Overlake Lock and Key to solve that annoying problem hahaha. As I said, it is my go to place for making copies. I’ll be back!

Arrived in need of a few different key copies on a hot summer day — was in and out within about FIVE MINUTES. Screaming fast, the gentleman who assisted me was nice, courteous and answered several questions I had, and the keys only cost me a few bucks.
A++ and will definitely go there again for more keys.

This place is great– very honest in a business that can and will take advantage of you.
I dropped my Hyundai keys down a storm drain (didn’t have a spare). Called AAA who sent out a random locksmith. That person opened my car, but then went on to tell me it would cost $ 300 to make a new key (said it had a special chip in it, blah blah which my car doesn’t have).
Thought it was a scam, so called Hyundai, got the code to make a new key. Went to Overlake Lock & Key, and walked out with a set of new keys for under $ 15.
Since then I have been here for numerous keys. They can do the unusual requests that at other places would charge you excessively. They are prompt, quick, and very knowledgable.
They also have 24 hour emergency service!

My ignition sucks. It breaks keys. Rather, it bends them to the point of not being usable. The solution? Pay $ 300 for a new ignition… or hit up Overlake Lock & Key!
There was only one guy working here (I’m not sure where they’d fit more people, so it’s no surprise!), but it was quite a wait. However, once I got through waiting, he was super helpful. It took awhile to figure out exactly what to do for me — my keys were so bent he couldn’t just copy them — but he figured it out and I came away with a couple new keys for $ 7. Yay!
The keys are apparently magical, too, because even my ignition hasn’t messed them up yet and it’s been a few months.
