Seattle Children’s Bellevue Clinic & Surgery Center

We had to do a blood draw here on our 9 month old son today after a concerning result was found at our pediatrician’s office.
I could not have been more impressed with the care we received from Bellevue Children’s. From the security officer, to the registration desk, to the lab techs, everyone was so friendly and helpful!
The blood draw was SO smooth and easy. They were very precise and took their time to find the vein in his arm before inserting the needle (and they used distraction by putting «Lion King» on the TV in the room), and then one little poke – our son cried for a moment, but then the blood draw was over in 10 seconds!
I was so nervous, as a first time parent, having to see my son get a blood draw – but the staff here made everything better. They are pro’s! I would highly recommend this place if you need lab work done on your child. I had to ask my pediatrician for a specific referral to Children’s (instead of Evergreen Hospital which is closer, but they aren’t has experienced with kids). I’m so glad we chose this clinic!

My daughter had been having trouble during the day, and we weren’t sure if we needed to escalate to an urgent care or not. Our pediatrician gave us some markers to watch for, and said if we had to go, go here. He actually recommended we drive *past* a few other urgent care /​evening clinics to get to this one. I’m so glad we did.
The doctor and nurse who worked with my 9-​year old were tremendous — efficient but friendly, worked together great as a team, clearly knew their stuff. They completely put my daughter at ease, which is an immense feat because she’s had bad experiences before AND had already been to the doctor that day, and they really bent over backward for us.
It was right at closing time (10:30 p.m. for the after-​hours) and the doctor had her coat on to go home — but she didn’t make us feel like a bother or hassle, and didn’t make us feel rushed.
We’ve only lived here for a month or so, and the relief of having a sick child cared for on a Friday night, when you are starting to panic, was tremendous.

I am sure there are more stressful things than taking your child to the cardiologist, and I’m also sure that I don’t want to experience them. We paid a visit to this facility recently when my daughter’s new pediatrician heard a heart murmur, and since she has a medical history of heart problems, everything needed to be checked out.
The staff were excellent, helping us speed through the checkout process so we didn’t miss our time slot (we were late). The medical records from my daughter’s surgery a decade ago were all still there and they were able to evaluate her completely based on the records and an auditory evaluation; no need to subject her to the expensive ($ 3k!!) testing after all. The cardiologist took her time explaining things and answering all our questions.
We had a great experience with the cardiology team in Seattle who performed my daughter’s surgery in 2002. I was so glad that the Bellevue facility is run the same way: organized, efficient, knowledgeable. The quality at Children’s is simply superb.

First time here, they are efficient, professional, genuinely friendly and caring. Great care from Dr. Cheryl Parker! Love her!

We love Children’s Hospital, they are so kind and informative. They take their time listening to you, and asking you if you have any other questions. I never feel like I am being rushed or herded along, they truly care about kids. Everyone is so friendly and we are so grateful for the care they have given us. Yes, they charge for a facility fee, but so do many other outpatient clinics, it is pretty standard now.

SO outraged at how Seattle Children’s Hospital conducts its business. I researched the Dr but now kicking myself that I didn’t check Unilocal for hospital review. Similar to other reviewers below, was charged a Facility Fee for just a meet and greet with the Dr as my son may have some elective surgery.
We were charged $ 140 on top of co-​pay to talk to the doctor. No Xrays nor tests were done. We didn’t even use the bathroom! Doctors, hospitals and healthcare workers should be ashamed they participate in this type of racketeering.

Dr. Lockhart has taken very good care of my daughter, who broke her back while playing basketball. He makes her laugh. Talks to me like I’m a human being, and even went out of his way to make sure she didn’t have tethered cord, which is not what he was seeing her for, but did it at my request because I suffer from a rare condition that often times comes with tethered cord. He’s an exceptional doctor, which is why we travel over an hour to get to him. And, there’s a Starbucks in the waiting room. Enough said!

I’m really shocked to see that this hospital has such a low rating. We’ve had nothing but great experiences here. We were referred here when our son was born in 2012 for a penis issue (called hypospadias). We met with Dr. Burns so he could check it out then came back the following year for a surgery consult then the actual surgery. Dr. Burns, his nurses, and colleagues were all excellent to work with. He was so kind with not only our baby but with US… We were nerve-​wracked about this surgery and he addressed every one of our fears. As a visual person I appreciated that he did a few drawings to depict exactly what was wrong and how it would be fixed. After the surgery he gave us his personal cell phone number to call anytime with any questions or concerns which we did twice. He answered our questions and assured us our son was doing well. It’s been almost a year since my son’s surgery and everything looks great! I would recommend absolutely anyone to this hospital, particularly the pediatric urology unit as that’s what we have experience with.

BUYER BEWARE THE FACILITY FEE!!!
Children’s is a wonderful facility with awesome doctors. BUT their FACILITY FEE billing/​cost structure is just WRONG!
We were referred to Children’s Bellevue from our pediatrician. We had a 20 minute visit, no procedures, and were charged $ 276 for the dr visit (fine)
but then…
A SEPARATE FACILITY FEE of $ 255! That is a LOT of rent for a 10×10 room for 20 minutes! Looks like I should meet my dr at the FOUR SEASONS and have lunch/​pay less. I have actually been thinking of supporting Children’s in my giving plan, but this is just NOT RIGHT. (I found out that any outpatient clinic – Virginia Mason, parts of UW, Children’s – vs a private standalone clinic are allowed to charge these facility fees. ASK before you visit!

I took my daughter to Seattle Children’s Hospital for a mole removal surgery, based on the referral from her pediatrician. The first visit is to get have the doctor take a look at her and the second one is for the surgery. We’ve first received 2 bills from the them, one from Children’s Hospital (billed the insurance $ 306 and we had to pay $ 250.60 for our deductible) and another from the plastic surgeon (billed the hospital $ 161 and we had to pay $ 25 copay). She was just being looked at, that’s it.
We were not aware of the doubling billing so we went ahead with the surgery. When I saw the Explaination of Benifits (EOB) statement sent by the insurance company, I couldn’t believe my eyes. They’ve billed $ 5964.15 to the insurance company, and, after the insurance, we had to pay $ 742.54 out-​of-​pocket.
I am had received another bill from the surgeon. This time it was a little over $ 1,000, which we have to pay about $ 160.

This is such a rip-​off. It’s just to remove a mole, a surgery that normally goes from $ 50-​$ 500 without insurance. I felt sick to the stomach about this kind of charges and plan to dispute the bill.
Beware of their cost. Even on their website, I later found that they said you will receive 2 bills, one for the doctor and one for the hospital, Do you really want to pay at least double? I had surgeries at other hospital and they didn’t do this.
Mole removal is not a complicated surgery. Children’s hospital may have good doctors but I am sure my daughter will do just fine with other doctors. I wish I had read the reviews others had posted in Unilocal before going for the operation.
Check the cost before you go there.

Totally the worst urgent care ever!!! If I could I would give you a negative Unilocal rating.
I’ve been here 3 times with my daughter for urgent care over the last 3 years. Once for a broken ankle and two times for headaches/​nausea vomiting which was diagnosed as a migraine both times. Our last visit was about 3 weeks ago and I will never go back. Sweet employees and volunteers check you in and then you go to the waiting area and it’s all down hill from there in 2 of our 3 visits. The attitude from the nurse from the very start was so judgmental and rude that I complained on FB about rude nurses at a children’s urgent care and how is this possible? It’s a children’s hospital. Not to my surprise the responses from my friends about this and their experiences at children’s Bellevue were pretty much like mine some in different ways, but the consensus is that they walked away with no answers. My daughter and were absolutely shocked walking out of Children’s that night at 9:30. Our family doctor had sent us for more testing because it was getting late 6:45pm and she had already done a strep test and an H1N1 both negative. My husband had tested positive for H1 a well and a half prior and the strep just to rule it out. She didn’t feel comfortable sending her home with her symptoms so she referred us to Children’s that night for IV fluids and a test for meningitis because of the horrible pain/​stiffness in her neck. Also, she had been suffering with this for about 30 hours with no relief from blacked out room, meds and sleeping for the majority of the time between throwing up.
The Urgent care Dr. made it very clear to us that «in her opinion she had a difference of opinion in care needed». Needless to say my daughter left children’s untreated not even an Advil or Tylenol and that was it. Oh, wait she was given a Gatorade as we were leaving. Omg are you serious? I’m still in shock.
Our family Dr. Was confused/​miffed about the report she received the next day after requesting it from Children’s. They input any notes about the visit not even her vitals. Oh, that’s right the nurse didn’t take any vitals only her temp. Children’s did NoT treat my child. Instead they made her feel like she was lying and making it up and they made this VERY clear. I was shocked at the treatment my daughter received from both the Dr. And the nurse. BTW the same nurse attempted to give my daughter an IV in August… epic fail on her part. After she had three failed attempts the fourth one was another fail. Blood everywhere and a very freaked out kid. Worst part was her energy and attitude about it it was like oops. Not an apology for sticking her 4 times and not having the grace to excuse herself and get another qualified nurse to do it. I should have insisted but I didn’t and now I’m mad at myself. The nurse instead gave the excuse of it was because she was so dehydrated. Really? Really? I should have complained back then and Unilocaled it. Worst part of this besides how my daughter was dismissed is that I still get to pay for you awful service and bedside manner. Yay me…
In the end my child did have (something) not a fake illness like the Dr. and nurse suggested. She had a migraine (#3) in 5 years. Upon checking in I informed the nurse and the Dr. this is what my gut told me based in her history. They didn’t listen. My daughter finally got relief/​treatment the next day. With IV fluids, anti inflammatory and anti nausea and 3 missed days of school. I’m thankful it broke the cycle enough for her eventually feel better. We are now seeing a chiropractor, PT (neck) and pediatric neurologist to figure this out.
Children’s Bellevue I will never take my children to you ever again. You made my daughter’s situation worse, you made her suffer more, you humiliated her, you made her feel like a liar and you tried to make me feel the same. Shame on you. Just an FYI my daughter is an exceptional student in the 9^th grade with a 3.7 GPA. She is an amazing athlete that plays select sports on 3 teams at the same time soccer, softball and Bball and is an amazing sister and daughter. This is who you were «dealing» with.

Beware of the clinic fee! My insurance covers 6 office visits a year before our deductible kicks in, so I thought we would be covered for my son to have a check with a specialist he sees once a year. Due to their fairly new billing practice of charging a separate $ 255 «clinic fee», my $ 50 Dr. fee was covered but the $ 255 goes straight towards deductible. From now on, I will be forced to try to find a Dr. who practices from a office not affliated with Childrens. Swedish and Overlake do not bill this way, nor does their urgent care. I truly loved Children’s Hospital as my son has recieved extensive treatment there for the past 8 years, yet a $ 255 bill for a 10 minute visit is not an option for our family.

BE AWARE… THEY WILL CHARGE YOU A $ 255 FACILITIES FEE JUST FOR AN APPOINTMENT (we were there for a 10 minute check-​up)… You won’t find out about the charge until you receive the bill. This is a very deceptive practice… that shouldn’t be tolerated.

Update: Now, over three months later (quite some delay in billing, eh?) I’ve received another billing notice from the professional practice — this time my damage is the $ 15 copay, with the rest covered by my insurance. So that brings the total amounts I’ve paid to $ 225 (instead of just $ 15 if this had been an urgent care visit).

We have had to take both of our kids in during off-​hours to the Urgent Care here. It’s really nice having a kids-​only urgent care on the Eastside, staffed with pediatric specialists. It sure beats the experience at the adult urgent cares and ER’s. They caught a fracture in my son’s ankle that’s only seen in kids and could have easily been missed by an adult doc.
The facility is beautiful. The lobby is clean and comfortable and there are things for the kids to do while they wait. There’s x-​ray and a pharmacy right there on-​site too. One stop and then back home. No extreme wait times. No adult patients watching TV shows that aren’t kid appropriate or cussing in front of my kids. The whole experience was very pleasant.
Like anyplace, sometimes you wait a little. Also, since urgent cares are pretty new for Seattle Children’s they seem to be working out a few kinks. The hours (they will stop taking patients if they get busy near closing time) and the facility fee (bigger on 1^st visit) seem to have surprised a couple of the other reviewers. Probably some room for improvement on these two fronts but all-​in-​all, this is by far the best place to take your kids on the Eastside.
Full Disclosure: I’m married to a Children’s employee but I really love this place regardless.

Well, today was the big day. My youngest daughter had her «impressive» tonsils taken out here.
Children’s Seattle is pretty awesome… but, once again, Bellevue proves it’s reputation is indeed deserved. It’s Children’s Seattle… only a lot more shiny, pretty, fancy and well done.
I’m not accustomed to worrying about my kids… from a medical perspective. They’re pretty healthy and we’ve had no big scares. So this was also the first surgery. *oy, we’ll go over what a wreck I was in the waiting room over drinks sometime*
Turns out, her tonsils weren’t «impressive», they were «huge». From a medical standpoint that’s apparently a big deal and very technical terms.
But, the service… the staff. MY GOD. They are amazing. Friendly, helpful, fast, efficient, knowledgeable and just all around awesome people.
Everything went PRECISELY as scheduled and they said it would.
The only thing that marred the experience from being spa like to the extreme was one poor little tyke who was soooo unhappy to be there and couldn’t be consoled… but, lest you forget, it IS a hospital.
She’s home, full of drugs and Popsicles, and doing great, and I am so grateful my first «omg my baby is being operated on» mama experience was in the capable, and well decorated, hands of Children’s Bellevue.

When I say I know about area hospitals and clinics you can freaking believe me. Seriously.
Between the 3 of us, we’ve done the tour: UW, Swedish, and Children’s.
Hands down, Children’s is the bombest of the bomb. However, if you want to go to the fanciest schmanciest facility in tarnation, you need to cross the bridge and go to the Children’s Bellevue Clinic.
Pretty and modern and state of the art and everything is comfortable for kids and the parents herding them along.
Add a few candles and some soft lighting and I’d eat here!
