What a wonderful store! Huge variety of dog toys… etc Also enjoy their expertise on pond plants and maintenance. One of Bellingham’s best!

Went to purchase a dog bowl. Immediately approached with assistance, which I loved. There was a good selection with a variety for practicality and aesthetics. I bought one that said bad to the bone since Blondie could use a shot of confidence. The gentleman behind the counter kindly posed with the bowl for me while I took a photo. For $ 11 and change it is a nice size, it has rubber on the bottom that keeps it from slipping all over and it’s easy to clean. Perfect!

This is a great place to get all sorts of pet products. It looks like mostly aquariums but they also have a huge selection of food and other items for cats, dogs and other pets. I won’t go to any other pet store. I have purchased betta fish here as well as cat food and cat products. The store is large and they more than likely have what you are looking for plus more. The staff is helpful. They know what they sell and always available to help you find what you are looking for. I spend too much time oogling over the aquariums and all of the cool aquarium items they have. Support local and come here for all your pet needs.

I LOVE this place! I would not go anyplace else. AND, even when we lived in Kirkland, I depended upon them to keep my critters healthy. Travis is our guy and he always supplies us with incredible knowledge. In the today and purchased a new raw diet to feed kitty in the mornings, with fresh water added. We will continue to feed a rotating diet of Acana and OriJen in the evenings. I recommend the Tail Mix sprinkled on top of the latter two foods, moistened with fresh water. Again, recommended by Travis. I swear by these people (especially Travis, oh and YES, Larry) They CARE about animals and always have proof with their own animals. Several years ago, we had been feeding our cat, Grace, a prescription diet (which we were told, she must be on forever). It was not healthy, and manifested itself in a couple of ways. I went in, explained the situation and purchased OriJen. She has been PERFECT ever since and extremely healthy. I now rotate with Acana and the new raw diet. She loves her food. Thank you CLARKS. Pet lovers, do not think about going anyplace else.

Even though I purchased from their grow out tank, not usually for purchase, I now have hair algae. My tanks were doing excellent prior to this, now I have a lot of work to do in trying to rid my tanks of the dreaded hair algae, very disappointed. One should make a point of reading the hidden reviews, some truthful information.

An update to my earlier review:
The staff at Clark Feed & Seed really know their fish too! My young son is super attached to his pet betta fish. The betta is not doing too well right now. Most parents would have flushed the betta (ha) but my kid is so in love with the fish, he even bought a little tiny Christmas stocking for it which hangs on the mantle with the rest of the family’s stockings. The betta experts at Clark Feed & Seed recommended medicine and then examined the fish and recommended some additional food. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the fish pulls through, but just the time and attention given to us about the situation put my son’s worried mind at ease. Thanks Clark Feed & Seed!

I went in to the store the other day and spoke with someone manning the register (I don’t know his name, he is about 6′ tall with very blond hair) about exchanging a large chunk of rock that didn’t look right in my tank. I went in expecting a ‘no’ but wanted to try anyways because my last fish store allowed such things as long as it was purchased in their store.
His response to my question word-​for-​word: «We’re not in the business of making trades. We’re a retail store, we make money by you buying things, not trading things. You can sell it on craigslist if you want, but if you want more rock from here you’ll have to buy it.»
I completely understand that he was correct, retail stores make money by people like me buying things, not trading them. However, telling a customer to his face that he is nothing but a dollar sign is a great way to lose business. As I said, I was expecting them to say ‘no’, but maybe with a bit more tact. In this day and age, the only way these small stores can compete with far cheaper online shopping is customer service. I had spent over $ 200 there in the past 2 weeks that I could very easily spent online and I still have about $ 300 in livestock purchases + future maintenance that will now be made elsewhere.
I have had multiple good experiences with an Asian employee (sorry, I don’t know your name!) in the saltwater section over the last few months. He has been extremely attentive and helpful as have the rest of their employees.

I love this store. Employees are nice and helpful. Please check this store out before you go to a big chain. :)

This place is amazing. The employees are so helpful and they were able to direct me to the sand I was looking for. It’s truly breathtaking to step into this store and see the multiple varieties of fish and corals and anything you could possibly want for an aquarium. They also have quite a few items for cats and dogs, but I was more enraptured by the fish.

The only thing keeping this place from 5 stars is Larry, the owner. He is a raging, dickhead, know-​it-​all. Beyond that, his employees, notably; Eli, Rachel, Travis, Colin, & formerly Zac, are the most knowledgable, enjoyable, and friendly people you could hope to deal with.
The prices are a bit high, but the variety in their stock is awesome. They have lots of types of Killi’s, betta’s, apistos, goldfish, cichlids, danios, raindows, plecos, shrimp, AND a salt section. They stock a good variety of accessories, frozen and dry goods, tanks, logs, rocks, substrate. They also stock TONS of specialty dog and cat foods.

The fish and plants are beautiful here, my boyfriend and I try to shop local and help small businesses. Recently bought 6 fish and they are beautiful but dying off. We have a lizard who eats a ton of crickets and we buy roughly 4 dozen crickets a week from them, the last two times they have shorted us.
Just yesterday I went in payed for 4 dozen crickets a older gentlemen walked by, went and got the crickets came back and handed them to me. I looked at the bag and counted roughly 12 crickets, there is a big difference between 48 and 12. I told the lady at the counter I asked for 4 dozen not 1 dozen she told the guy it was 4 dozen. He grabbed the bag, went to the back, got some more and handed them to me. As he walked away he threw his hands in the air and said i don’t know. I laughed and replied you don’t know how many there is? No response so I said thank you and walked away. We later returned, took the crickets back and we will now be shopping at Petsmart, where we at the least get how many crickets we pay for.
If they don’t want to take the time to count the crickets and give the customers how many they pay for, then they shouldn’t be charged by each cricket. Some of the employees need to have better customer service, the gentleman should not have just expresses his frustration and told me he doesn’t count the crickets. Paying over 3 dollars a week for crickets and not to mention all the fish & supplies we buy, they lost good paying customers. We will never do business with them again.

My positive review is mainly for the Clark’s side specializing in fish and aquariums; the Holh’s small mammal and bird department on the other hand… that gets its own category.
99% of my experiences with Clarks have been wonderful. One particular employee has been exceptionally friendly and informative, without making new tank owners feel like bumbling idiots and offering sympathetic consulation during a bout of ich my fish had that I called in a panic over. They do a good job of giving you the right information (although at times depending on the employee it can be inconsistant) and their fish are adorably healthy. Definitely will NEVER be going to a major chain store for fish again (*coughcough petsmartpetco cough). The 1% negative experience I had I can attribute to both me being a little hypersensitive, coupled with an older gentleman’s rather abrupt chiding for having our tank only filter for 2 weeks and not 11 months and calling our little pets «sacrificial». He was only trying to help, and I understand that. But as a vet assistant, I know that «bedside manner» goes a long way.
Hohl’s customer service is basically the antonym of Clark’s. The older woman who is generally perched at the front greets you with a look typically reserved for a grandmother you just paintballed the house of. Asking for assistance often warrants an eyeroll from the old broad, although the rest of the staff I’ve never had an issue with. The store is clean, the animals appear to always have fresh bedding and water, and I appreciate that they encourage the rabbits and guineas to be petted. Expensive, yes, but they have healthy chicks and seems to understand that they’re more of a local mini petting zoo and welcome looky-​loos (such as myself).
I’ll return to both, as I have for years. But will buy my chicken equipment from the WCC, and grumpy looks from my own grammy.

love this place! whenever ive had a tough day at work, on my walk home ill stop in and pet bunnies and visit the kitties for adoption in the back! always makes me feel better :) also a great selection of bulbs and house plants! LOCAL TREASURE!

I was blown away by the knowledgeable and informative staff at Clark Feed & Seed. They sell a small variety of dog food brands, but they excel in their familiarity with the product. I’m so glad that I found a great store to buy my dog’s food and other supplies, they truly are awesome!

I am about 45 minutes away in Canada, and I love coming to visit the store for the aquatic side of things, all my experiences have been very good, and the staff would rather not sell to you if your tank is not in the best shape, for instance cycling a tank for 2 weeks. The selection is crazy, so many varieties, in healthy tanks and the staff is very knowledgable. there is a tone of other items available to support your hobby, and I am going to get some rocks, wood and plants to set up my Crystal Red shrimp tank.
I am just on my way there now, and I checked this site for their hours, I phoned over and the girl that answered the phone was very enthusiastic, extreeeemely knowledgable as I asked about their «Otto» selection. hours are until 8pm on weekdays, which is perfect. Anyway, best store around, and yes better than King Ed pets in my opinion, prices are good, and the store is nicely arranged.
so don’t hold back on this place– its great.

I love this place. It is on the pricy side for cat and dog food, litter, etc, but that’s because it is really high quality product. Also, the staff is friendly, helpful without being overbearing, and (I cannot stress this enough) KNOWLEDGEABLE! I always come away feeling really good about my purchase. (And yes, the negative reviews about the unfriendly staff at the «kitten and bunny» store is actually the feed-​n-​seed next door to Clarks)

The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable, and for such a tiny store, they have a great selection. They always have time to stop and teach you about health and safety for your animals. I always feel like they really care about my pets. They remember my dogs’ names and histories! They fitted my puppies for their coats, so they would be comfortable but still have room for growth. The coats have held up for years, including machine washing. Once, one of my dogs broke her collar, and I didn’t know it had a warranty, so I bought a new one. They could have kept the money and just not said anything, but instead when they found out the first one broke, they gave me a refund! My dogs are pit bulls, and the staff at Clark’s have been terrific about finding toys that are good for dogs with strong jaws – some of the toys have also held up for years. I really appreciate the fact that they don’t stock cheap products like the big box pet stores do – if you buy anything in Clark’s, it’s quality, and it’s rarely priced any higher.
Like most pet stores that actually contain animals, you can examine their habitats and health to find out whether the staff actually knows what they’re talking about. Animals in big box stores are often ill, distressed, or dirty; the fish in Clark’s are healthy, active, and if they are ill, the cage is marked because the staff noticed and they are treating them immediately. They offer free water testing on Wednesdays in case you don’t feel confident testing your aquarium on your own.
And though they have earned the five stars, I feel that for this to be an honest review, I should add:
At times, I’m uncomfortable with how fervently they recommend the brands they carry. Their dog food is excellent, and one of my dogs does fine on their favored brand, but my other dog lost weight from an illness and was having trouble gaining it back. Instead of helping me find a different brand that would meet her needs, they told me to give her less of what she was eating. At first I believed them, because they had a scientific explanation, but eventually I was tired of seeing her ribs, spine, and hips, so I bought her a different food from Hohl’s next door. She has gained seven pounds (from 36 to 43), is sleek and happy, has plenty of energy, and her stool is healthy. I also checked the «scientific explanation» with my vet, who was amused but assured me that feeding my dog less and less to try and get her to gain more weight was nonsense, no matter how high quality the food was.
So I absolutely support shopping here, and I love the staff, but remember: they’re still just people, and they can make mistakes even if they know more than you. There’s nothing wrong with getting a second opinion or doing some research on your own, and you owe it to your pets to be well-​informed yourself, not to just trust someone else to be well-​informed for you.
P. S. I’m kind of annoyed at all the reviews of people who can’t tell the difference between Clark’s and Hohl’s. The name is over the door, so just look up before you go in. Is it really that hard? Clark’s has fish and supplies. Hohl’s has furry and feathered animals and supplies.

I’ve been getting back into the aquarium hobby for the first time in a few years, and I’ve had a lot of questions about… well…everything since I started getting my new tank established. The staff at Clark’s is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and helpful. With so much conflicting info online, they are an irreplaceable resource. The fish stock is ten times more varied and healthy than anything you’ll see at Petco or Petsmart. If you have questions or need anything for your tank, you’d be wise to start at Clarks.

Any place that has super friendly associates that always check in with you without having that crazy-​stalker vibe gets a gold star from me. We were there for maybe 15 minutes and got the best customer service I’ve had in a long time.
Hubby and I went on a fun day-​trip to Bellingham and took our pup. I have been meaning to get her a new collar and Hubby wanted to get her a few more toys. Everyone loved our pup (what’s not to love) and wanted to make sure we were finding what we needed.
We found a collar and leash (save 10% when purchased together) and two new fun toys. If I lived in Bellingham, I would definitely go here for all my pet-​ownership needs.

I love going to Feed and Seed because they have both a good selection, and quality products. I also love visiting the kittens in the back, and I bought my kitten from there two years ago (its through the Whatcom Voice of the Animals). I also prefer to buy from local stores when possible.
My biggest disappointment about the Feed and Seed is that overall it is more expensive they buying my pet products at Petco, online, or my pet food from costco. As a college student, I have to go wherever they have the best prices. I also don’t like their hours. I can’t remember what exactly they are — but I have gone there multiple times needing something immediately and they were closed.
