Icing On the Cake

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet. It is my favorite place for cupcakes (but really any baked good) in Bellingham! Her cupcakes are just amazing. Never too sweet and always made from scratch! The owner is adorable, and she always recognizes me, even if I haven’t been in for six months. Every flavor I’ve ever had has blown me away with how delicious it is. She has the standard vanilla and chocolate, but she also goes above and beyond with amazing gourmet flavors. If you go, make sure to get a couple, because just one is not enough!

Never, EVER disappointed and I don’t have a sweet tooth! They are so moist and delicious. It is literally the only cupcake I will eat in the area. The owner is always friendly and helpful. Cute store too!

This young lady makes some of the best tasty treats ever my wife does the printing at Sunshine printing for her labels so every once in a while she brings home some tasty delicious treats I have not yet met this young lady in person but I here she is very sweet as I would believe because her little tasty treats are very sweet and delicious cakes are moist cookies are delicious and soft you can’t go wrong by giving her shop a little stop make sure you put her at the top of your list when you visit Bellingham she’s worth the visit

I was in town with my boyfriend last weekend, visiting his aunt and uncle and had a hankering for carrot cake so we stopped into this cupcakery. Lo and behold they had carrot cake! So I ordered one of those and three other cupcakes for 11 dollars. I would have enjoyed them more if the ratio of frosting to cake wasn’t 50/​50, as I like a bit more cake than that. Also, the frosting on the carrot cake wasn’t quite a true cream cheese frosting, but a more fluffy, artificial tasting counterpart. So –1 star for that. They were decent cupcakes though.
The –2 stars is for the way the cashier reacted when my boyfriend’s aunt tried to take a photo of me buying the cupcakes. She had no ill intent, she was only documenting parts of the trip, and the cashier just started mumbling under her breath about her being rude for assuming that she wanted to be in the photo. I get it, you don’t want to be in the stupid picture– I too work in a customer service position, I know what it’s like. But do you have to passive aggressively mumble about it and make everyone feel awkward? Just flat out say that you don’t want to be in it, jesus christ. It made everyone so uncomfortable that my boyfriend suggested I shouldn’t have bought the cupcakes and honestly I didn’t really want to after that happened but my card had already been swiped.

These cupcakes are amazing! When my family visits from Spokane I always take them here to enjoy these moist and delicious cupcakes! The owner is such a sweetheart, and she keeps us coming back every time. I recommend this place to anyone with a sweet tooth. try the red velvet! :)

My wife and I were in town for the weekend and saw this place while we were on our way to lunch (at the Mount Bakery Café). We decided to get some cupcakes for friends we were seeing later.
Oh man, these were fantastic! The selection is a lot of fun: really beautiful flavors. The cupcakes tasted wonderful and looked beautiful. And the chef was really friendly; we were delighted being in her store and she was really fun helping us choose a half dozen cupcakes.
Everybody we shared with, loved the cupcakes. we would go here again and again.

I was hungry for some chocolate. I read the review about the fleur de sel and was severely disappointed to see they had a gluten free coconut, a lemon, a lime coconut, and a tiramisu. I was surprised that the reviews did not match the five products on display… They did not even have chocolate truffles. they had truffles that were coated with a thin shell of hard chocolate. I’m pretty sure they were not made in house. I asked why the reviews did not match the establishment. I was not surprised to find that it had been sold about a year ago. I don’t know where the original owner is but icing on the cake needs an update. I doubt that the products are sold at The Public Market anymore. There was not one chocolate cupcake, 1 cupcake with chocolate topping, or the mouth-​watering qualities of previous reviews.

AWESOME! Vie the chef/​owner is super friendly. I picked up a few boxes of cupcakes here for my niece’s 3^rd birthday party, at the request of my sister who has been raving about this place ever since moving to town last year. I’m personally not a huge fan of cakes and cupcakes – usually because they’re usually too sweet for my sweet tooth – but these were amazing. Very gourmet options and interesting flavor combinations: the best ones were lemon/​strawberry, which had cake with a light lemon flavor, a dollop of lemon filling inside the cake, and strawberry frosting on top flavored with real strawberries. I’d never had frosting with real fruit, but it made these regular-​sized cupcakes seem like a feast of awesome flavor. Most importantly, there wasn’t even a hint of fake saccharine sweetness like most cakes and cupcakes.
The cupcakes ended up seeming like a gift to the parents who brought their toddlers to the party… all the parents were raving about the cupcakes. My sister had a 3 tiered thing she used to place cupcakes all around so when it was time for cake, the birthday kid blew out 3 candles on hers, and everybody else chose their preferred flavor from the tower of cupcakes. It was an awesome alternative to the traditional birthday cake, and allowed for 4 different gourmet flavors of cakes instead of just one big boring cake.
100% recommend this place for any special occasion cakes, or just to stop in for a treat.

I’m not a huge cupcake fan, but these cupcakes are consistently moist and delicious. The chocolate is amazing, as is anything with their cream cheese frosting.

Currently devouring a delicious gluten free vanilla cupcake! I visited this cupcake shop for the first time today and will definitely be back again. All of the cupcakes looked decadent and I appreciated the variety of flavors available which ranged from classic vanilla to peanut butter and honey. The icing is light and fluffy but not overly sweet and complements the cake perfectly. Cute, tasty, and affordable!

Came in here a few weeks ago, the new owner was super friendly and gave us free cake pops. They were delicious! And so was our cupcake.

Been enjoying truffles from this pastry chef for a couple of years now. Her cupcakes are excellent!
My wife and I stopped in Saturday afternoon. Vie — the owner and pastry chef — made the cakes for our wedding. We are so glad that she now has a shop!
We’ve had the Maple Bacon, Salted Caramel, Chocolate /​Peanut Butter and Toasted Toffee cupcakes. All were excellent.
Her red velvet cake pops are awesome as well.
Vie is a true artisan. If you’re in Bellingham and you’d like a tasty treat, you can’t go wrong with Icing on the Cake!

This place is under new ownership so I can’t say if it’s better than it used to be, but I do know that these cupcakes are some of the best I’ve had. My partner and I are getting married this month and we’ve been on the hunt for cupcakes that aren’t dry and crumbly with horribly sweet frosting. That search has been harder than we imagined. We even tried a pretty popular Seattle cupcakery and were pretty «eh» about it. Why is it so hard to find a cupcake that doesn’t fall apart in your hands from being so dry? And why do places pile on the frosting when it’s so disgusting and sweet that it hurts your mouth? Well look no further! This place is awesome and the lady who bought it (I can’t believe I didn’t get her name) is the nicest person! She is doing our cupcakes and making a design with fondant for us (she also threw in two free cupcakes to try out when we first went in). These cupcakes are amaaaazing. They are moist and taste wonderfully homemade with delicious frosting in just the right amount. I definitely recommend this place if you have a sweet tooth.

Under new ownership. I was the first customer today. The chocolate peanut butter cup cake was the ultimate in sweet debauchery as were the chocolate truffles. This shop will be a regular stop on my walks in Bellingham.

I love their cupcakes, Liz, the owner, suber über talented — love her cupcakes. If the retail store is closed head down to the Bellingham Farmer’s Market and you can find her delicious baked YUMMERS, aka cupcakes at the market!

For Christmas, the only thing I hinted that I wanted was the once-​a-​month cupcake gift certificate from Icing on the Cake. My husband, delightful man that he is, honored my request, making me a VERY happy woman this year. I thought my favorite cupcake was the Fleur de Sel with it’s caramel infused chocolate cake, mile-​high frosting and grains of salt on the top (since the first time I ate it, in the shop, I made noises that gave the experience a PG rating) but I do believe that the chocolate cupcake is my new favorite. Liz is the BEST. We love her. She makes us feel like we are cherished friends. We’ve taken every visiting member of our friends and family here, even before the requisite mountain hiking and ocean viewing.
