Description

Specialties

The Ultimate Building Supply Thrift Store — for homes, businesses, contractors, and lovers of style that can’t be found in a big box warehouse. The RE Store carries everything from Appliances to Z-track with large selections of vintage doors, windows, cabinets, lighting and plumbing fixtures, odd architectural items, displays and much more.

Donations and trades are welcome — every day until one hour before closing. Or let The RE Store come to you!

* We pick up your stuff FOR FREE.

* We strip out reusable building materials FOR FREE. Everything from doors and windows to paneling and flooring to light and plumbing fixtures.

* We tear down entire buildings using a unique green demolition model called deconstruction. This saves up to 60 percent of a building for reuse, another 30 – 40 percent for recycling, leaving at most 10 percent of the building going to the landfill. Our deconstruction program is the longest running in Washington State, since 2000.

History

Established in 1993.

The RE Store in Bellingham was founded in 1993 by the non-profit organization RE Sources for Sustainable Communities to address the growing problem of wasteful disposal of usable building materials. The RE Store provides an alternative to dumping those materials. The demand for The RE Store’s salvage services grew rapidly and a second store was opened in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood in 1999.

The deconstruction program began taking down entire buildings in 2000. Hands-on workshops and our Recycled Art program have been inspiring reuse in our communities since 2001.

Since its inception, The RE Store has turned building material waste into a viable sustainable business venture that diverts close to 4 million pounds of waste per year from needless disposal while employing over 35 full time employees.

The RE Store is the offspring of RE Sources for Sustainable Communities, a non-profit environmental education, advocacy, and waste reduction organization serving Washington State.
