History
Established in 1982.
Whatcom Land Title Company opened its doors on April 1st, 1982 in an office located at 110 Grand Avenue. David Goddard purchased what was the Transamerica Title Insurance Co. office in Bellingham, put Whatcom Land Title Company’s name on the door and switched title underwriters to Safeco Title Insurance Company. With three full time employees and two part time employees, Whatcom Land Title Company began.
We have always been, and remain committed to doing everything we can to stay locally and independently owned. While this may mean that we have to work harder for some of our business since we do not have a nationally known name or corporate referral base, we feel that being independently owned and operated is an important component of our operation, and beneficial to our clients.

Business Owner
David Goddard already had ten years title experience under his belt at the time he opened Whatcom Land Title Company in 1982 and celebrated his 40th anniversary in the title industry in 2012. He had previously worked as Branch Manager for Safeco Title Co. in Bellingham, and Chief Title Officer for Transamerica Title Company in Spokane.
Prior to working in the title industry, Colleen Baldwin worked in the restaurant business — travelling around the United States opening up Sea Galley restaurants, and managing the new crew. She was working at the Cliffhouse in Bellingham when first hired at Whatcom Land Title Company in June of 1986, as a Customer Service Representative, later moving to title examiner, title manager, Escrow Officer, and finally buying into the company in 1994 as David’s business partner and co-owner.
