I work across the street and eat here maybe 3 — 4 times a week. Their food is consistently good! They have sandwiches, salads, soups, waffles, breakfast burritos, the list goes on. The staff is awesome, I always look forward to lunch time! =)

This was a 5 star place before the owner(Nathan) sold it toward the end of 2015. Still worth going to, but portion sizes are much smaller now and quality of food is not what it was. A solid 4 stars.

Service is great. Quick and very nice. The food however was pretty bad. My sandwich was somehow soggy and not well put together(they did give napkins but not enough!) the soup was just Progresso. Absolutely nothing special but okay considering the price/location. Will not be going back.

I use to go to the old deli in the 90’s when I worked a few blocks away so when i recently stopped in with my brother, Dave, I was surprised to see new owners. We bought sandwiches and were so happy to find that they were still serving up fantastic delights. Our meals were abundant and fresh. We go in all the time and I’ve since tried the salads also, which are huge and I can take half home and finish up for dinner. As far as the young girls who work there, cmon, give them a break, they are shy, sure but if you are warm and talk to them they warm up to you and talk back I’ve seen people go in there and act like they should be kissing up to them. You want service? Go to a big restaurant, where you can pay for them to kiss it… geez… LOVE this place, its GREAT!!!

Just give me a good sandwich, maybe roast beef, on fresh bread. Blue cheese, ok, but just keep it simple with fresh lettuce, a little onion & a dab of mustard. Dijon? Dutch crunch roll? Something to drink… Delicious! $ 8 deal! I don’t need décor. :)

I have passed this place a million times, as a matter a fact I live off Old County and work off Harbor. I have never had a sandwich from them until today. A coworker of mine who goes there often offered to split with me her turkey sandwich. Not only is a half of a sandwich plenty for one person but the bread was extremely fresh and soft and the produce was fresh and crunchy. Decent prices for a good lunch. I will be going back again.

Nice small local deli. I ordered a tuna sandwich on rye for lunch(with cheese and jalepenos to spice it up). The ingredients were fresh and the people behind the counter were very nice. Worth returning to.

I’ve been here on two occasions as it’s within walking distance from my work. I have yet to be disappointed! My very first sandwich was an Italian on Dutch crunch yum! The one I got today was salami on white roll soo delicious. My coworker came along without her wallet! But the owner still took her order anyway :) we’ll be back and for this kind gesture will be bringing more customers long. I’ll make sure they have $$ on them!

This is a great place to get a good quality inexpensive fairly large but ordinary sandwich, we go here for lunch all the time. It’s a blue collar place for all the local workers, I gave it 4 stars because I think a lot of Unilocalers might be expecting a 5 star place to have some sort of fancy gourmet sandwich. This is a $ 5 sandwich, it it not a $ 10 sandwich like Ike’s or Americano, this is not a hipster artisan sandwich shop! They also have good breakfast sandwiches for like $ 3.

I’ve lived within walking distance of the Old County Deli for almost two years now, and driven by it hundreds of times, so the other day when my truck was in the shop I finally decided to try it out. They’re only open till 3:15, which can be problematic for serious night owls like me, but it was worth it! The atmosphere was nice. It was all natural lit, and they had some really good music playing(a local classic rock station. I heard Tom Petty and Peter Frampton among others). Cheryl, working behind the counter, acknowledged me but didn’t say«just a minute» or anything. At first glance, I can see why some people would give her bad reviews, but more on that in a minute. I ordered a pastrami sandwich, which I figured they’d nail if they’re any good. Pastrami and delis are kinda synonymous. I ordered, then sat down to read while I waited. I heard a meat slicer firing up, which was cool, but also a microwave, which made me a little skeptical. Partway through, Nate, the other owner/employee, stopped making my sandwich briefly to ask me a question or two about cheese, to make sure he was getting it right. We’re both kinda quiet talkers, so I got up and went to the counter to make sure we heard each other. Cheryl came back to the counter, and when she saw me standing there looking at the menu, told me I didn’t need to wait or anything, she’d bring it out to me. Like I said, at first glance I can see why people would give her negative reviews, but she seems pretty nice, you just have to get to know her a bit. Anyways, back to the part that really matters, the food. The pastrami sandwich was GREAT. It was piled high with pastrami(more pastrami than all the rest combined), and it was GOOD pastrami. The toasted marble rye was just the right crunchiness, and the rest of the toppings went well with it, too. It was easily the best sandwich I’ve had in quite some time. Combine that with the good service I got, the great atmosphere, and the proximity, and I’ll definitely be back.

This is a counter to the bad service reviews and bad food reviews. This Deli is a blue collar deli meant to be a place where working men and women can get a well made sandwhich at a decent price. They have VERY fresh meat, perfectly balanced condiments, fresh bread, and use A LOT of meat! The two working behind the counter are super down to earth great people that like a small town feel to their deli. Nate and Cheryl are super nice and like to make sure your sandwhich is consistently great… which it is. Having said that, if youre expecting to have a crap city style, all bread, little meat, all veggie, hipster hang out go somewhere else. But if you like a hearty, good tasting, fresh and big sandwhich, come here and expect to be treated well. Cheryl and Nate always greet their customers and always are willing to chat. Overall a great deli for working men and women of the san carlos and belmont area.

Just discovered this spot on Old County while waiting for my car to be serviced across the street. Delicious breakfast burrito with very nice and cordial service. I will be back for a sandwich soon!

Had the au jus dip on my lunch break. It was absolutely fabulous. I wish I would’ve taken a picture. The woman came off rude at first but then was rather pleasant. You could tell she took real interest in her regulars. Definitely will return.

Sandwiches are pretty large and tasty. There was a couple that ran it. Seems like they like to keep it pretty ma and pop feel to it. They were very nice and their décor is super cute. If I’m in the area again I might come back.
